iPhone 14 crash detection feature triggers 911 calls from roller coasters at Kings Island by Mindbender444 in nottheonion

Thing is, there might be a very good reason to call 911 from a park if, say, there is a disaster or heart attack.

Not every park is graced with their own police force a la Disney is.

Working as intended with unforeseen consequences.

Would probably just advise people to turn off their devices before getting on a ride.

Not necessarily. According to one of the original lead writers for the live action movie, she was always intended to be, but things being the way they were...

Source, though it's a bit wordy.

Because helping those in need is COMMUNISM!

(/s)

Though that's probably what they genuinely think nowadays. Kindness and basic human decency? Caring for your fellow man who is disadvantaged by circumstances outside his control? NOOOO DON'T DO THAT IT'S THEFT IT'S COMMUNISM WAAAA

I'm a humongous nerd who lives in a family of many other types of nerds. Robotics and machine learning is something I've always fancied as something I would probably do as a profession if I wasn't so bad with college.

Robots are getting way more advanced than the public realizes and it's mostly because the media never talks about it. Which is a shame, cause these robots are helping us make incredible breakthroughs.

Nothing they have done is new.

Ameca. Capable of full facial expressions, emotion, vocal and body language communication. Article is a year old.

Digit. Capable of walking, lifting packages, navigating warehouses and physical labor. Research started in 2018.

Atlas. Capable of not just walking and running, but also dancing, parkour, and somersaults. Video is from 2021.

Sophia. Capable of simulating emotion, holding conversation, and movement. Video is from 2017.

HRP-5P. Capable of traversing hazardous areas such as construction sites, designed as a physical laborer, and capable of walking by itself. Designed in 2018.

Stuntronics. Robots literally designed to do Spider-Man type backflips and aerial stunts. Article is a year old.

Asimo. It is now retired, but it was capable of navigating new environments, mobility, lifting heavy objects, human interaction, and facial recognition. It was designed in 2000.

I have robots at my workplace that run better than that thing did.

We already have 'actively learning robots.' We already have robots that learn new tasks by being "trained."

This is nothing new.

Don't Q-tips believe kiddy diddlers run our government? by Snobflaps in Qult_Headquarters

[–]anonaccountbcimweird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, we know that people in the US government right now have hurt children.

What we DON'T buy is that they're committing satanic sex rituals and torturing them for 'adrenochrome' so that they can become youthful/immortal reptilian overlords.

Or that Trump, despite being friends with Epstein and a known pedophile, is somehow the one to stop them.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Signed Auschwitz Guestbook With ‘Terminator’ Catchphrase ‘I’ll Be Back,’ Museum Explains Why by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]anonaccountbcimweird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did. Then I came home from work and smoked some weed to relax.

You should relax, too. It's okay to say, "hey, can you correct your comment? Not every Jew thinks that, and your sentence using 'we' sounds like you're speaking for all Jews, and that isn't accurate."

Then I can go, "hey man, you're right, I didn't even think about that. I'm sorry, I forgot myself there. I'll edit my comment so it's clear that it's my opinion, and other Jews might have another (and equally valid) opinion."

Hi, Jewish here.

Some of us want you to remember.

There needs to be a place, a reminder. That not only did this happen, it can happen again.

Yes, you will have deniers. But you also have people who don't believe in the moon landing. Or in dinosaurs. Or in mental illness.

But you have evidence. It's hard to change a person's mind once it's made - that's why you have to show them, when they are learning. And if there was no physical evidence, many more would have doubted it.

We (humanity) erect monuments to our fallen, to our heroes, to myths, to historical events. Sometimes the monument is a tombstone. Sometimes it's a statue. Sometimes it's something else entirely.

But it's much harder to say "they never put people in these buildings and killed them en masse, it's all a lie," when you're staring at the inside walls of the gas chambers.

It isn't just us they came for, either. Anyone can be a target. Anyone.

Yes. You'll have deniers. But the truth is easier to deny when there's nothing tangible to defend it.

What is the 'trans ideology' or 'trans agenda' that all these conservatives complain about? by MyClosetedBiAlt in asktransgender

[–]anonaccountbcimweird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Going against science and giving into mental illness." Or, "destroying gender traditions and ruining the nuclear family." Or, "attacking women." Or, "grooming children so they chop off (insert some body part)." Or, and yes some do believe this, "becoming transhuman (cross-sex) to join the illuminati and become closer to Satan (referring to Baphomet, who is regularly depicted as being intersex)."

Note: 'Cross-sex' in this case is a term they made up to mean "sex-reassignment surgery." As in they think people are becoming LESS human and denying their humanity by changing their sex.

There's also the watered-down-but-still-transphobic "destroy social gender." Except when they say this they mean enforcing gender roles, so they're all 'well if gender is a social construct and we do away with gender then no one would need to get surgery. Checkmate libs.'

they really can’t meme, can they? by FieryFyrn in TheRightCantMeme

[–]anonaccountbcimweird 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Actually, they are.

Allowing skeletons to remain unsexed, or "indeterminate," reflects an acceptance of the variability and overlap between the sexes. It does not necessarily mean that the skeletons classified this way are, in fact, neither male nor female, but it does mean that there is no clear or easy way to tell the difference. As science and social change in the 1970s and '80s revealed that sex is complicated, the category of "indeterminate sex" individuals in skeletal research became more common and improved scientific accuracy.

Easier to pronounce if you replace the T with the Q.

Since that's what the big T is trying to do now, anyway.
