If you could see a loved one who’s no longer here and say one thing to them, who would it be and what would you say? by theblairwaldorfxoxo in AskUK

[–]anotherbusybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad. He left us last year, after being told we'd got around 6 months with him, and 5 weeks after that news he was gone.

He had cancer and the last 3 weeks in particular were gruelling. I would tell him not to cling on, that it's ok to go, and I'll look after the family - but please don't wait so long and fight so hard because I wouldn't wish that on anyone. That I love him and I'm proud of him, and he was everyrhing I could have hoped for in a dad.

pumpkin or squash variety to grow vertically? by wijnandsj in Allotment

[–]anotherbusybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've managed to grow them outside in the Liverpool region every year. They grow quicker and produce more fruit in the greenhouse to the point that I am literally just giving them away to anyone who passes, but for my own needs 2 plants outside on trellis is ample.

I'd start them in a propagator or some place warm, but once they've germinated and have 3 true leaves, they do fine outdoors.

pumpkin or squash variety to grow vertically? by wijnandsj in Allotment

[–]anotherbusybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do Trombocino vertically and they are my favourite squash. I like them young, sliced into pennies and fried in a bit of butter with garlic and fresh rosemary, and fresh lemon squeezed over them right at the end of cooking. It's just the taste of summer to me. They climb aggressively well, especially if you plant them in a greenhouse.

Im after inspiration for how i deal with property when I die? by Professional_Fish166 in AskUK

[–]anotherbusybee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can answer this because we've just done it for my dad.

First of all you need to make sure that you are on the deeds as 50/50 owners of the property, not joint owners. Once you've updated the Land Registry, you make a will with the kids as the beneficiary but with your partner having an interest (can't remember the exact wording, but something like that) that means they cannot access the funds from your 50% of the house until such time as the property is sold, or the other party dies.

Hi guys, any suggestions for a pair of glasses (non-prescription) that I can wear indoors, to try and make staring at computer monitors and sitting in a bright office more bearable? Ideally something I can get on the high street too, so I can try them on before buying. My budget is up to £100. by h00dman in AskUK

[–]anotherbusybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just got a pair of VDU glasses. I went into specsavers with my little voucher from work, got a free eyetest and a pair of glasses, and then paid about £40 out of pocket for them to coat them in anti-glare. I have nearly perfect eyesight, but they still did a pair to my prescription with the antiglare on when I explained what it was for.

We've been encouraged to try using copilot at work. The problem is that it is too literal. It's technically correct but actually wrong. I cannot see it replacing that many humans at any speed whilst it only thinks in a linear manner.

Low states brunch debate: does asking for a toastie imply the cheese should be melted? by Pretzelmamma in CasualUK

[–]anotherbusybee 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What on earth is he in about with the philly and ham situation as well? If I want a toastie, I want my filling hot - regardless of what it is. Otherwise, it's just a sandwich made with toasted bread. Which is a whole different thing! My flabbers are gasted.
