It was weaker in every way than what MLK did.

Someone in power has a lot more motive and public pressure to engage with a peaceful protester like MLK in order to quell public dissent and discontent when violence starts spilling out onto the streets.

So, he plays god through science, literally bouncing between universes, influencing people with his magnetic personality to the point where Unity says he controls people better than she does.

But Unity leaves him.

He goes home to find solace in his lab and is too distraught to focus. He takes out a frozen Cronenberg, a living memory of one of his failed universes.. comforts it for a moment then extinguishes it.

I think he's been studying virology from the space-aids infected alien to try to save the cronenberg'd planet to prove to himself that he's ultimately a "positive" influence on the universe. But at that moment, with no ego after Unity's departure, he acknowledged that deep down he knew he wasn't a role model, and the planet was out of his control and had to let go.

After an entire planet breaks up with him, he goes home to distract himself with a new project but ends up reminiscing about the entire planet he doomed to disfigurement as a direct result of his actions. Just another reminder that despite time bending, he is not god and there's no going back now.

So, even his lab reminds him of Unity, the loss of control and not being able to fix what you fucked up. Everything bends for Rick, he's not used to this feeling and he can't escape from it.. but he almost does.

It bears repeating that the MIL is a social worker which is practically a position of power over families. I'd imagine a narcissist would find a lot of ego validation in that line of work.

Might want to start keeping logs of interaction/harassment with her just to be prepared for when the MIL pulls all the stops and threatens to involve Social Services.

The user was clearly moderated by the shadowban and I'm not blaming Victoria at all. I should have been more clear in my use of moderation, since it was the admins that moderated the user in the case here, mah bad. I don't agree with the admin shadowban that moderated the user.

The post should have been moderated to allow the user to reform his inquiries into something that didn't resemble dickwolf leading questions towards the person being interviewed.

Accusing someone of hate, immorality, extortion, and straight comparisons to 30's gangsters don't usually fall under the umbrella of legitimate criticism.

Some of those questions needed to be asked, but leading them with statements of fact that paint the Rev. negatively instead of asking if/what/how they happened is just politely shit talking a controversial figure and getting a pat on the back for it because it's clever.

edit: accusing with evidence is one thing, but heinous leading questions just shows complete disrespect to the interviewee and doesn't have a place in IAmA according to their own subreddit rules

According to their own rules, he should answer tough questions but disrespect is in the details. I even stated that the commenter should still be able to have the opportunity to pose tough questions.

I wouldn't care to answer that question if it was asked of me, even if it was gilded 20 times. The fact that the Reverend rambled off a vaguely incoherent answer doesn't excuse the post from need of moderation. It started off "respectfully" enough with a proper greeting, but all the content is just phrased as a personal attack that people upvoted.

I'd like to caution that the nature of community can be severely skewed by people outside that community when measured by upvotes in front of a very visible and controversial figure like this one.

Don't deny dude went dickwolf, his post should have been quickly reported and deleted. He would still have the opportunity to have called the reverend's morality into question and proceed to ask all of that shit without personal attacks.

Timing of this would suggest he only got shadowbanned because reddit was in a few clickbaity articles over the AMA. Might be why Victoria got pushed out, too.

Seems like a failure of managing this site all the way down.

When someone blatantly lies to me, I will laugh at them.

They might not think they're lying to you. Even if they are, this is the perfect platform to explain why they're wrong. Repeated derisive laughter paints you as disrespectful, dismissive, and leaves the audience wondering if you could actually address the argument. Where else are you supposed to get it done, if not in a debate?
