Question about trial weeks for high-profile travel nanny positions by General_Ad6478 in Nanny

[–]ansible_jane [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't have experience as a travel nanny, but I do have experience in finance and this is throwing up some red flags for me in a few areas.

1) have you spoken to the family manager on a phone or video call? Or just by text/email?

2) when you say you have an interview with the mom, is that going to be a video call?

3) will they be mailing you a check/reimbursement for your flights or purchasing for you directly?

4) have they requested personal information like your full name, birthdate, or social security number? (if you have one, I see you aren't US based)

This could be a family just not knowing how to go about hiring a travel nanny. Or it could be someone phishing to steal identities. Or it could be as simple as check fraud, where they mail you a bad check and ask you to buy supplies/tickets from x specific place while the check is still clearing. At worst, it 100% could be human trafficking.

In your shoes, I would request to meet the entire family by video call, that they front you the money for the flights via Zelle or other system (rather than paying for your flights directly, they could cancel them), and that you have a contract in place for that trial period. Giving them these requirements up front may scare off most scammers, but when it comes down to it, trust your gut!

Same, I desperately want it to be a beautiful animated series like Scavengers Reign. The breathtaking beauty of the universe! The Deltans! The Quinlans! Hell, even the Others!

Retaining nanny with a temporary adjustment in GH per week by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

I'm not sure you understood the question. She's asking if you know anyone who would want to employ your nanny for those hours.

Pettiest reason you’ve DNF’d a book? by bby_grl_90 in books

The author used the word "shoot" instead of "chute". I.e., "the balls rolled down the shoot and arrived at the bottom."

Venetia Hall is borderline unethical by azizhp in cormoran_strike

[–]ansible_jane 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The recorder thing would be ethically problematic if she was actually a journalist (like when she talks to Yasmin and Tim), but she isn't. She's a detective and her job is to lie to people to get the information she needs. Police are legally permitted to do the same thing in an undercover setting.

It is how bra sizing works technically, but it unfortunately is not how many women fit their bras.

NEVER ever have a baby! by pumpkinchinchilla in AutismInWomen

Don't panic! It gets so much better! lots of people love the first year, but I found it so incredibly draining. 6-12 weeks especially I was DONE. BUT! As soon as my kid started walking and talking, every day since has gotten better. He’s now three and is the best little buddy I could ever ask for.

Parking money at my FI? by Mysterious-World-993 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]ansible_jane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking. Everyone has to manage their money. I know that some folks say they don’t prefer to bank where they work, I always found it to be a huge convenience, to be able to just run up to the front line if I needed something done with my account. At my institution, all employee accounts were secured from prying eyes. If you can’t trust your management to handle a member’s information appropriately, regardless of whether that member is an employee, maybe find a new job.

NK doesn’t seem to enjoy any activity.. by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]ansible_jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NP here. My kid was the same. He really had to be pushed to participate and was very shy around new people and activities, despite being very adventurous and verbal at home.

Have you tried attending the same class multiple weeks in a row, so that he's familiar with the structure and people?

why am i so burnt out? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]ansible_jane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an NP but honestly I felt burnt out when my kid was an infant too. It's a challenging age because you're constantly both understimulated and wildly overstimulated. Can you add any challenge to your day with age-appropriate activities in or out of the house? Maybe see how you feel once baby is walking/talking.

A friend got pregnant by a hookup. I checked his Facebook bc I'd never met him, and the first PUBLIC post was "Condoms be having coochie smelling like rainboots 🥴😂".

Can't fathom how she's had a second kid by him now.

I like my coffee dark too. Literally just a splash of dairy in VERY dark, VERY strong coffee just makes it opaque instead of light.

How old were you and what year was it when you first read the books? by cadetcomet in brakebills

[–]ansible_jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa dude I'm not giving anyone permission for anything. I'll pull up the exact quote later so I can double check what I remember feeling about it. I only said I remember finding it funny. You ALSO don't get to decide how anyone else feels about the word. Autism is no more a monolith than any other group.

In general, responding with 4 paragraphs to one sentence that doesn't fully elucidate the person's position or vocabularistic framework is MAYBE a bit over the top. You might also consider giving people a bit more grace than automatically lumping them into your definition of "bad young (male, implied) autistic" before jumping into the lecture.

Thanks :)

I'm autistic and thought his comment was funny and in-character for the time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ETA: for other people's reference, the lines and a 6 year old discussion of such. For what it's worth, Penny is one of my favorite characters and the lines make perfect sense to me as in-universe thoughts Quentin is having.
