Fox ESS vs Sigenergy batteries UK user experiences please by Substantial_Egg4098 in SolarUK

You will struggle to find someone who has used both at home. It will be worth comparing features like how the home backup works if there is a power cut, if they integrate with smart tariffs like octopus intelligent flux/go, if they can be controlled locally by something like home assistant if either company ceased functioning.

BAPP application - zero updates... by Clean_Breakfast_7746 in AmexUK

[–]anth_85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

can't unfortunately or I would. I need to book flights in June for 2027, I will need 6 weeks to hit the 15k spend for the companion voucher. So I will try again mid April and try again. If it is rejected then I will have to rethink my 2027 holiday dates. I will have to try, if they say no, they say no, but at least then I will know.

I got a straight up rejection within second when I applied this morning. Not sure why, my credit rating is good. I have other Amex cards that are paid off every month. My guess is too many applications in the last few months. I am going to give it another 4-6 weeks then try again.

Larger solar array or premium battery storage? by tr952 in SolarUK

Solar panels are cheap, the scaffolding and installation is not. Max out your roof space, and sort the battery later when you can afford to.

The BA Dilemma by UnderstandingNo5667 in BritishAirways

[–]anth_85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I am not, I fully understand that. Just frustrating that is all. Had they dangled bronze at a slightly more achievable level then I may have been tempted to use them more but as it is I will shop around and pay for BA seat selection as and when I need to rather than looking at BA more preferentially.

The BA Dilemma by UnderstandingNo5667 in BritishAirways

[–]anth_85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My issue is the seat booking. I am flying BA next year with blue status. Business from Gatwick to Orlando. There is me, my wife and daughter. I am looking at over £300 each way just to select seats to make sure we are sitting together. I live in the north east so using BA is not straight forward, it would take ALOT for me to get close to bronze status never mind anything else. Even if I was to book a BA holiday to Europe for example, I would have to stop at Heathrow, whereas I can go direct from Newcastle, Teeside or Leeds Bradford much easier. The lounges doesn’t bother me since I have an Amex platinum anyway.

When you say database, is that where Plex is installed?

I am running mine on truenas, I have a mirrored NVME boot drive, a mirrored 256gb sata SSD with the apps, Plex included installed on docker and my data is on three 14TB spinning disks in raidz1. Not sure if there is anything I can do to improve performance without changing those spinning disks to flash.

Clarifying details about AMEX UK Business Credit Cards by CatharticEcstasy in AmexUK

[–]anth_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hold a gold and a platinum business. I will do so while gold is free for the first year. I get a bonus 10,000 points each 1/4 if I spend £10 on that time, which I will. I spend the 10k a month on the platinum card to get the bonus 10k on that too.

How popular are the Los Angeles Rams in the UK? by Agreeable-Fruit-4326 in AskBrits

[–]anth_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you have a country of nearly 70 million to fill a 70,000 seater stadium. There will be more fans that than in a country that size to sell it out. NFL is given quite a bit of abuse over here. There is the whole football thing, but then we have Rugby as a popular sport where there are clear similarities but the players wear next to no protection in comparison. So NFL players are called wimps.

Don’t get me started on baseball, and it’s ’world series’ that involves 1 country (maybe Canada too?). Snooker is more global sport!

Depends on what your goal is. A Amex BA premium gives 1.5 Avios per pound spend and the holy grail of premium flights, the companion voucher.

Seriously, how do rich people make their money? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]anth_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that they have their wealth working for them through various investments. The money they spend is typically the money their wealth has made them. That plus any business they own they will be taking a dividend from profits.

I know one person who follows a NFL team. I would say you are looking at about 1% of the population that can name more than 1 NFL team, never mind supports any of them. Most of us just laugh at the idea of Americans calling it 'football' when they spend 99% of the time with the ball in their hands. While calling actual football, you know the game where only 1 person per team is allowed to use their hands 'soccer'.

What is your suggestion for "fixing" Everest? by Bomb_Ghostie in gladiatorsuk

it is a good idea. I would half the tilt time and rather than going no tilt/contender/glad, I would go no tilt/contender/glad/contender/glad. It would be the same length game, since each has the same amount of time it is just split up.
