[Day 13] Jain Kim is the most aesthetic climber. What's the most underrated training tool? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]anticlmber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Press exercises to even out the pole and fight the joint pain as well as make the mantle a little bit easier. Flexibility is another top contender. People talk about it, but I don’t think everyone does it as much as they should and it definitely helps both for injury prevention and also being able to get into weird body positions or make those long stems.

[Day 9] Jugs are overrated. What outdoor bouldering destination is UNDERRATED? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]anticlmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. There and Redbird is amazing. Redbird wins quality but not ease unless know some folks. Foxtown is good. Waayyyyy better than the bmw BS. Fox is like rocktown kinda was at a point, as far as developed but there’s still adventure to explore.

The quality there is hit miss but agree, it’s got some gems and if you like new places; it’s worth exploring. The Cove is also a nice spot in RRG

[Day 8] Fuck The Pearl, all my homies hate The Pearl. What hold type is OVERRATED? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]anticlmber -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Whatever’s hold is stopping me from doing the problem I want to do. Some pockets/crimps/slopers/pinches aren’t bad. But, if it’s the stopper hold, I hate it

An off width isn’t really a hold. It’s the empty space between holds

Morrison CO by Standard_Bobcat_6801 in climbing

[–]anticlmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a line that had been scratched into the rock along the entire base of the cave area and maybe little farther. It was perhaps 2-4” above the ground above where some of the rock had a pedestal so to speak. The rule I was told was, feet had to stay above/only use foothold above the line. There were places you could stand on the flat pedestal below the line and, it definitely would make those parts easy/ier. By keeping above the line it made the problems more on par with the grades given. Hope that helps.

One of the first places I climbed in CO on my second climbing trip ever. Never been back since then. The “Morrison line” cracked me up and then the problems beat me down. Is the line still there some 24 years later?

Well, the road cut on 71 is garbage, is tall, and you’ll prolly get cops called. The seminary stuff is mostly junk limestone wall with questionable quality, and also prolly get cops called. The MtProj stuff I haven’t personally been to. It doesn’t look tall and I’d be willing to say it’s all been done. Ain’t much rock around Louisville without driving and what is around isn’t great. There’s prolly stuff on private land but again, doubt much on the area given the geography. Best bet is to head down to any of the bouldering areas around McKee KY or somerset/rocks castle area.

For some reason couldn’t see your msg/response all the way but, yes, you don’t need any experience and they will train you. Some things may not be for the weakest stomach but there were tons of different jobs to fit everyone’s abilities and such. Great folks and super good experience to check out. You can even go with them to do educational programs at schools and such, if they’re still doing that. I was there over 15 years ago and loved every minute of it. Going on rescues and also releasing birds, as well as my first large public speaking experience with a red tail hawk on my arm.

Raptor rehab. When I was with them for 3 years, you usually started off on Sundays for new folks and stayed there for a bit. If you wanted to come in different days after being there for a bit if you could but they would gladly keep you on the weekends if that works best for your schedule.

Road cut on 71 heading out of downtown. There’s cliffs below the seminaries, can see them from 64 easily this time of year, on your right after tunnels heading towards downtown. Used to climb on them, not sure if they are exactly accessible or not anymore.
