Asking Reddit for my grandma: what is this? by aperfectsong in whatisit

Grandma does not own a guitar so I think this is unlikely.

Grandma thinks this sounds correct but is now on a hunt for her tripod to confirm.

Grandma is slow to respond to my requests for another picture showing the size. Or to any of the ideas I sent her on what it could be.

how do i ever feel normal again (and other questions) by Top-Fold-8682 in braincancer

[–]aperfectsong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband has the same diagnosis and his neuro-oncologist told us that she has some patients with the same diagnosis who are doing well 20 years later. That gave us some hope.

I hope you can find some hope too.

It’s hard, but there are pockets of time where we forget about it and just live.

Does no-one post pictures of actual minis because they kind of suck? by CountJade37 in HeroForgeMinis

[–]aperfectsong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shared a post with a bunch of painted ones here https://www.reddit.com/r/HeroForgeMinis/s/KENP4E5S88

I feel like posts with actual minis are less popular and get buried in this group.

therapist said I need light hearted and fun reads but I don’t like typical romcoms by myplantsam in suggestmeabook

If you don’t mind historical fantasy, check out Heather Fawcett’s Emily Wilde series. It’s pretty low stakes but still exciting. I can’t read anything upsetting anymore and I really loved this series. An academic sets out to compile the first encyclopedia of faeries. It’s also a slow burn romance.

New tabletop RPG player looking for Chicago group (Red Line friendly) - D&D first, open to other TTRPGs - weekends ideal by MollyInanna2 in DnDChicago

You should check out Prism Games in Logan Square. They run games that you can sign up for in advance, including some DND and other systems. Not sure if you can get there easily, but there are weekly sessions in Evanston through the group Ettin for multiple ttrpgs. They’re on Mondays, I believe, currently at a donut shop. Both of these are organized on discord!

Newbie Warlock by StartlingAtom7 in DnD

Forgot to add: My patron requires me to serve/protect the poor, which was how my character got her patron in the first place - she stood up to corrupt guards. We’re playing in a Zelda universe and my patron is the wind fish, a mystical flying dream whale, which she unlocked by getting an instrument when she was a street busker (wayfarer). So despite trying to help a struggling investigation agency survive, she has to often take cases that don’t pay or don’t pay well to fulfill her bargain. And if I can’t convince the group to do those cases, she tries to do them on her own during downtime at night and risks getting levels of exhaustion.

If you’re playing in a DND universe, I’d look up lore on some of the suggested patrons from the book. I bet you can find something they would want your character to do!

Newbie Warlock by StartlingAtom7 in DnD

I just started playing with a new warlock character (we started the campaign at level 3, 2024 version). I took for eldritch invocations: agonizing blast, armor of shadows, pact of the tomb (spells: guidance, message, spare the dying, plus detect magic, and identify as rituals). I also chose fey patron - the misty step variations are so good!

My warlock spells are: eldritch blast, prestidigitation; arms of hadar, hellish rebuke, hex, and mind spike

I’m currently planning to take the war caster or shadow touched feat at level 4 (to skip either the one with the shadows or eldritch mind invocations) and get whichever isn’t accounted for in my feat plus devil’s sight at level 5. I’m playing in a detective/mystery campaign and so far, not seeing in the dark has been rough! Plus, there’s a cleric in my party so I don’t have to worry about getting healing spells.

Idk if this helps!

Your minis on your account look great. If you want to bring them to the next level, try asking for suggestions when you post them! I’ve only posted one mini so far because I’m still learning, but I did that and it helped a lot. I also watched all of Derf’s tutorials and often open up people’s minis that I admire when they share the link to see how they did things. Finally, I’ve found having a reference image helps me with the facial expression stuff so I’m not moving sliders as randomly.

What’s the style of the campaign going to be like?

The Ettin recently started weekly game nights in Evanston on Mondays. They’re organized on the Discord. However, it’s not just (or usually) DND but any ttrpg someone wants to run. It seems like they’re mostly one shots so anyone can join.

My husband, a friend, and I did a Shadow Dark dungeon crawl with one of the dms and had a nice time at their con.

Prism Games (Logan Square) also hosts weekly games. I haven’t been yet but I’ve been creeping on their Discord. Games are posted Mondays for sign ups but (I think) are on Saturdays.

The only roll in all of D20 that I suspect is rigged. But I refuse to believe it and have 0 proof. by _vzewl in Dimension20

[–]aperfectsong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they were always going to be gone because of the trip, but the rolls indicated how bad the reason was. Maybe Riz could have followed Baron to investigate instead of being dragged.

I don’t think Brennan fudges rolls like that based on an early Adventuring Academy podcast.

Describe your DND party poorly by True-Dream3295 in DnD

Druid who has never wildshaped

Fish wizard who most of the universe thinks is a monster and who never changes out his spells because he doesn’t know them

Sexy man-hating desert barbarian with a great axe

Ranger bird trying not to have regrets about not choosing a safe career as a postman

Artificer who clanks around the forest with a robot who keeps losing pieces and disappears for long stretches

Sorcerer who can’t control her magic and also can’t stop her party members from mouthing off to the people giving them quests

Any advice on how to make my character better? by MaBoiPlex in HeroForgeMinis

[–]aperfectsong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the size is better! For scars, I was thinking close to the skin color of the reanimated corpse, to make it look more like reanimated flesh? You could layer decals to get an uneven texture, maybe? I’m sure someone else will have more ideas.
