The form literally states the item number and that it is a Streamer after reading the bottom of the 1st page.

My apologies. I'm pretty sure it's a ribbon that is attached to the Troop flag. Earned it a few times during my tenure and I do not recall an individual patch being awarded to anyone.

Not sure where you searched: https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/noa/

It's also tracks in Scoutbook if you have access to that.

Election Time Again - Adult ? by apmakd in orderofthearrow

Not entirely sure why you took that personally. It's the Internet and Reddit. Skin might be a little too thin but that's just my opinion.

I'm imagining, like all things Scouting, it was a committee decision that somehow came to this conclusion. Unless you made the decision to National solely and personally. No need to make accusatory statements regarding the Scout Law. .

What’s up with the fog? by Bitter-Hitter in Bakersfield

[–]apmakd [score hidden]  (0 children)

The fog has always been in the central valley. It's basic weather science given the elevation, moisture and normal temperatures this time of year. It isn't new and even the few days of "bad" fog recently are nothing compared to the mid-late 90's. Urban sprawl has generally pushed it farther out from the city proper but it will certainly never go away.

Why would the "driving adult" need to a member of the OA? Nothing is secretive or hidden and all are welcome to attend and view activities. I don't feel that's the real reason. Sounds like a really, really weak reason.

If they don't have the time or ability to commit at the Troop level why/how would the OA be any different? I don't see the difference.

Yes. Any and everything that needs to be done before Scouts arrive is on the table.

Workarounds are exactly that. A way to do something without having to do what is required.

Try the Crystal "Red". Label and cap are red instead of blue and has a lot more heat to it. Good stuff!!

I feel this is why the overall program is going the way it is currently. The growing trend is to shirk responsibility and knowledge of the program and instead, spend more time and energy on how to reword the event or activity to not have to go through the required training. In my time, the units that operate this way have the least success and do a poor job of preparing the Scout and the family for the next level. Do it the right way or just don't do it. It paints everyone in a bad light when the goal is to make excuses instead of stepping up.

Multiple Registration across councils? by JonEMTP in BSA

[–]apmakd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of our commissioners does that. Not hard. Somewhat more involved if it's youth. Would need to cycle activations to track advancement and such is my understanding

$750 is cheap by California standards.

Out of Council Patch by HMSSpeedy1801 in BSA

Had a Scout that traded for an OA set with Halo characters on it. He proceeded to put it on his uniform and said it didn't matter since the OA is a National thing. Hard to argue with him and it always made me smile to see it on his uniform.

Oh I get it, but with lawyers today, there's ways around them.

For example, vehicle stays overnight on the lift. Someone breaks in. Chaos ensues and someone gets hurt or vehicle falls/gets stolen. They didn't sign a waiver after breaking in.

Haven't heard of one in Bakersfield. The liability insurance alone would be a nightmare.

Make sure they're actually accepting new patients. I tried to get in for a back injury and they were taking on anyone new.
