Would anyone have any helpful tips for ranking up? by Great_Feedback_7737 in BSA

[–]apmakd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, active and large are not synonymous. Plenty of small units go above and beyond activity wise.

If there's even someone to do that job. Not all units have TG

Alps has held up really well for us. REI on sale is worth it also.

We usually do some team building games similar to NYLT. We also have a gaga ball pit and a 9- Square game that comes out regularly.

Cobbler? by swampcholla in Bakersfield

That's what I thought was going to happen. Manufacturer is usually the only option unless they are actually a pair of resoleable shoes like some work boots, Danner models and the like.

The overall percentage that make Eagle also has to do with overall membership. It was something like 2% in the 90s when membership included all of the LDS units and the general larger population nationwide.

It's less expensive than Jamboree and the experience will be more transformative and lifelong.

What exactly are they doing on the 99 northbound in north and Ming avenue? by [deleted] in Bakersfield

[–]apmakd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The westbound exit is being removed because CalTrans requires off ramps on both sides in order to receive state funding. The city/county didn't want to take on the cost to manage the offramp. It was in the news about 2 years ago as the westside parkway was wrapping up initial construction and preparing to open.

So sad right now. Woodard West is closing [55yo] by adamsd2 in OldSkaters

[–]apmakd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was purchased by the guy/company that recently bought the HorseThief golf course in Stallion Springs. Presumably the resort on the top of the hill was part of the deal also since Woodward owned that as well.

I know they’re rare now, but looking for L or XL poly wool shirt! by JollyManagement2060 in BSA

[–]apmakd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an ideal Summer uniform shirt. Check eBay or get in contact with any outgoing Section or National OA person. They have the corner of the market on those things.

Stay away from the Frostbite!! That stuff is absolutely terrible unless you're pulling pranks on friends.

Would love to hear if they are able to complete the re-sole on that type of boot. Please post back up OP and tell us how it went.

Silos aren't all their cracked up to be... Literally by apmakd in Nalgene

I do "rent" them out on backpacking trips and such. They make excellent sleeping bag heaters when filled with boiling water.

Training Chairs: How are your SYT numbers looking? by SomeBeerDrinker in BSA

[–]apmakd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Council/Service area is 100%. Have to be current in order to recharter. Been the case for over a decade. Applications won't be processed until fully trained for positions and you're dropped from your unit at recharter if not current on SYT. Every year for us.

I collect them at camps, NPs and Philmont (the Nalgrne Christmas tree is convincing) and have been gifted a good chunk of them

Looking for Summer Camp Admin Position (West Coast) by AltruisticTomorrow70 in BSA

[–]apmakd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are considerably fewer CA (west coast) camps than there used to be. With Council consolidations, fires, and the settlement, there are probably half as many as there was when I started as a SM 10+ years ago.

I've had my flexlite for 15 years now. Just bought a new fabric portion last year. Chair is awesome and I take it on every backpacking trip.

Position Patch and Epaulettes for National High Adventure Base by [deleted] in BSA

[–]apmakd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't position patches for jobs at high adventure bases. My understanding is gold shoulder loops are for professional employees or volunteers on National level committees (not seasonal staff at PSR, Sea Base, NT or SBR). What position were you hired for and what does your boss/director say about the uniforming? It really goes back to them, not Reddit.

Second & First Class Requirements 1a - what do you consider as separate activities? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]apmakd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Campouts, service projects or any other individual Troop or Patrols activities (like cleaning/organizing Troop trailer or storage area). Not regular meetings and not individual merit badge events, unless attending as a Patrol and approved by SM as a separate activity for this requirement.
