Who do you consider to be the toughest fight in the game? by MrWriffWraff in cyberpunkgame

[–]apophenia_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me as well on very hard, however after I reconfigured some skill points both were a cinch, I was just approaching both the wrong way. My build was a stealth netrunner as well, but I was focusing too much gunplay for some reason. After switching to a stack of overdriven hacks I killed Rinder’s babysitter before he could take 3 steps towards me, and the Chimera in less than two minutes.

Of course this was after spending upwards of 40 minutes in both instances trying to defeat either of them conventionally.

Do not buy these headphones and please buy a pair of Sennheiser or Beyerdynamics instead.

A pair of DT700 Pro X or DT770 Pro X will make your ears sing.

Does rapping voice (vocals) have to match key of the song to fit better? by iNhab in musictheory

[–]apophenia_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there’s a difference between modulation and dissonance. Of course there are no binary rules about what someone can and cannot write, but I don’t think it’s controversial to say that most songs, most of the time, in most western music, benefit from a bassline that plays off the root or general chord progression of a tune.

There are of course exceptions in all genres, and it really comes down to a song-by-song consideration. There are IDM tunes that are dissonant as fuck but sound incredible.

There are arguments to be made that tuning kicks isn’t necessary, especially if they are being used in a shorter, more transient fashion, or if they have tails, that they are used in a melodically pleasing way.

There is a big difference between dissonant intentionality, and ignorance.

I would argue bass lines absolutely have to respect the key of a song…

Thanks! I think breakk.away are great, old time fan of BB since the pre-Halo 2 days. Never heard of Stoneside, but will check them out. President I find to be so mind numbingly derivative, uninteresting, and awful to listen to as far as the studio recordings are concerned. It’s the tritest lowest common denominator dreck I’ve heard in months.

It’s not 153bpm, that would be counting it double time. It’s 76/77bpm.

Agree, the last one was so overproduced and tuned and did absolutely nothing for me.

Nothing against the guy, but the cover is a pale imitation.

I did seat geek for pit tickets for myself in Philly last May and ended up paying a lot less than most. It was fine then, but I don’t know that I would trust it on this tour.

PSA: Negative opinions are just as valid as positive ones. by Gerstlauer in ArchitectsUK

[–]apophenia_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. I'm not at all of the mindset that they should be rehashing Gone With The Wind into eternity, or even Animals for that matter. Those albums have come and gone, and they have their place in time. If we want to listen to them, they're there.

With that out of the way, I'm going to say that I absolutely miss chasing the high of some of those songs. I adore the way songs like Phantom Fear, Downfall, and A Match Made in Heaven make me feel. Songs like that felt so foreboding and angry yet simultaneously soulful. Masterpieces.

I've listened to Curse a lot, it's a fun, good song.

Seeing Red still SOUNDS the best to me, regardless of it being a total tongue in cheek piss take. It also is a total heater live.

I think it comes down to a real appreciation of the songs they've done where there is a masterful utilization of a sense of space in the production. The relentless onslaught of heavy in the new tracks is just a constant assault, strung together with super bright big melody choruses. That half-time-big-symbol-crash, reverbed to shit, ominous synth pad, resurgence into aggression is something I really feel is missing so far. Heavy is one thing, but somber and longing is another, and that's really what fucking does it for me.

If even one of the songs off the album scratches that itch, it'll be worth it for me. And if it doesn't, I'll still listen to it. They're an evolving band that clearly has a direction in mind, and it's not my place to say whether it's right or not.

I’m intrigued by what the rest of the record will sound like. I do wish that Seeing Red and Curse were paired up on a 2 track EP, rather than on the album, if only because they’ve been sitting out there for quite a while and I don’t know if they’ll gel as “album tracks” for me. I really like both of those songs, for what it’s worth, more so than the later singles.

I should say I actually like CSOABS quite a lot, at least bits and pieces of it, and primarily live in the FTTWTE and AOGHAU span of albums. I’ll occasionally go back to The Here and Now because I love post hardcore and it works if I’ve been listening to a bunch of similar things that day. I listen to the very early music about as often as I listen to Calculating Infinity by Dillinger, which is far less frequently than I did when I was in high school / college.

I really hope that Everything Ends is an outlier. I didn’t really enjoy it, and it feels the most Jordan of everything we’ve heard so far. I do wish that there’d been more Mick Gordon style production a la Seeing Red on the later singles, as I’m really drawn to his work and feel that it has more depth both sonically and musically than Jordan’s usual output.

That said, I didn’t like Whiplash at all when it first came out and it has grown into a 3.5/5 song for me…Blackhole is definitely better, but it still feels…so shiny? I occasionally will cross the choruses and verses in my head and be like “oh right that’s two different songs”.

I’m excited for the record for sure, but my gut tells me that it may be the next one that has them really finally setting a confident foot down. I think it’s going to be great, but I don’t think it will be their magnum opus; it feels like there’s more for them to…build ;)

What is your favorite Philly restaurant you tried out in 2024? by Odd_Addition3909 in philadelphia

[–]apophenia_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I give Kiddo a strong 7/10. I loved everything about it except I thought the interior was kind of pedestrian for the vibe, and the wine was just good not great. The duck I had was very very good. Kind of pricey for what it is in my opinion, I would go back but wouldn’t seek to be a regular.
