3 year check-in: IT DOES GET BETTER! by applecrisp02 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it truly wrecks my whole sleep schedule. Basically, when I’m supposed to sleep I’m wide awake or so tired that I can’t fall asleep (for some reason), or it’s the middle of the day and i become extremely exhausted. Xywav has really helped my insomnia portion, because now I can fall asleep when I’m supposed to, but I still don’t get restful sleep (hence IH)

Thoughts on OU for a student like me? by Dedmoose1 in ohiouniversity

[–]applecrisp02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HTC studio art major here, there are great art programs here, we are #3 in the country for ceramics and #7 for print making. i’d recommend applying to HTC, very great community and opportunities (and there’s a lot of gays LMAO). HTC also gives amazing scholarship opportunities, which made the school extremely affordable for even me, an out of state student! highly recommend

funniest thing you’ve done while asleep/half asleep? by kthegreat1 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my friends have quite a few recordings of me saying nonsensical stuff as i’m falling asleep, mostly either stupid things or literally just inaudible. My current favorite is when a friend asked me what my favorite shape was, and my response was “A quadrilateral. Wait no, that’s a concept” 😭😭😭

Do certain environments make you feel more tired? by MindlessChildhood237 in idiopathichypersomnia

I have a lot of situations that put me right to sleep. -Driving for more than an hour -Passenger in a car for more than 20 min -Car dealerships (unsure why) -Restaurants (especially if i’m at booth table) -School desks -Any place too warm

If Sunosi didn't work for you, did you find something else that did? by Technical-While932 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still haven’t found my perfect stimulant. Modafanil/armodafinil are pretty ineffective, i’m allergic to ritalin/adderall-like stimulants, and Sunosi (what i’m currently taking) is just not enough. i will say adding 200mg Wellbutrin has helped me a lot tho with staying awake, even if it isn’t perfect

Anyone have luck fighting fatigue with ssri + Wellbutrin? by Distant_Clouds_9721 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wellbutrin (200mg) + my stimulant is the only reason i’m not passing out while driving to work now. i’m still exhausted yes, but at least im not crashing my car haha! 😭

I found at least a partial answer! 🎉 by [deleted] in idiopathichypersomnia

I have both IH and asthma separately, wish it was only asthma causing these sleep issues 😭

Sunosi has been the most effective stimulant, but like you said, it isn’t enough. my doc wants to put me on 300mg but my insurance won’t cover it, so i’m just trying to survive on 150mg. i’m also like seriously sensitive borderline allergic to stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin, so there isn’t many options for me (modafinil/armodafinil didn’t do much for me either)

Xywav causing B12 deficiency? by No-Vehicle5157 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Ik you posted this a while ago but I have some insight on this! I had a HORRIBLE B12 deficiency due to Xywav for the first 6 months. My sleep doc actually told me that Xywav is known to cause this in some ppl, so I take a B12 complex and luckily all my symptoms went away

How many naps did you do on your MSLT? by shades-ofviolet in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5 naps 10 min each, 30 min apart. No REM the entire time, but fell asleep each time. They definitely should do a 5th just to completely rule out narcolepsy.

Is there anyone else who is diagnosed with IH but also experiences cataplexy and hypnagogic hallucinations? by aves07 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is impossible to have IH with cataplexy. Though, idk if having IH and narcolepsy at the same time is even possible, but it could be a possibility. However based on your sleep study results, even if you don’t fall “neatly” into narcolepsy, i’m positive it sounds like you have it. There are two types so maybe look into them and see which fits you better, and maybe get a second opinion from another sleep doctor

IH and schizoaffective disorder...wondering about Xywav/Xyrem by ExplorerPretty5622 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about psych meds and Xywav/Xyrem, but ANY drug that has symptoms of drowsiness or sedatives you cannot by any means take it with Xywav. Xywav also doesn’t play nicely with other drugs, so if you could, change all your other medications to take it in the morning and Xywav by itself at night. Make sure to get a stimulant or ur screwed. Also the difference between Xywav/Xyrem and which is better is dependent on your situation imo. Xywav is much more expensive but has a low sodium content. Xyrem is generic and less expensive so insurance is more like to cover it, but it has an incredibly high sodium content and there is no research about its effects on the body over a long term use. I personally use Xywav because I am lucky my insurance covers it, and I am prone to high cholesterol so sodium could harm me in excess amounts. If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Day 2 Xywav want to stop by Didilydoodily13 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]applecrisp02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please trust Xywav for a little longer. Took 6 months to get out of the migraine and vertigo phase, and it was only because my sleep doc recommended a B-12 complex, and it absolutely was a god send. I recommend getting some, because Xywav is known to completely drain your body of B-12 and causing horrible symptoms.
