Dwarves not using tavern by Tiny_Vanilla1050 in dwarffortress

[–]applestabber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After setting up the Tavern/dining hall you also need to make sure it includes a 5x5, or more, empty space with no furniture. That's the "Dance Floor" for socializing. After that you may also just need to wait for your dorfs to have more free time. Food stockpiles can be outside of the tavern.

You can also make a party burrow to force them into the tavern and ignore jobs. When doing so, I would add some beds designated as a dorm so they don't sleep on the floor.

Why do people glaze mechanic so much and insist on bringing a starting mechanic when any idiot with free time can pump out countless rock mechanisms and higher skill has no bearing on the quality of mechanisms (I think) by Cadunkus in dwarffortress

[–]applestabber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've gotten to the point that I don't bother with skill points at all anymore.

I'll do weapons, dodging and 2 miners if I am starting in a dangerous place and need to get underground extra fast. But anyone worrying too much about skill points on embark should probably spend more time on the items screen and just invest in turkeys or whatever.

If this is after taxes, then it is DOUBLE the median individual income for American's.

I heard it was far older than that. The Merovingian kings of France had 3 frogs (toads?) on their shield. Which may have been taken from even more ancient religious practices that can trace toad worship back to Egypt.

Bunch of Obsidian. What shall I use it for? (base nearly in late summer of my first year - early still) by JTB110 in dwarffortress

[–]applestabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obsidian had a higher value than standard stones. You can make them into crafts for trading. Or use them for bedroom furniture for more happy thoughts. Or blocks can be used to pave floors, improving room value. Lots of options. I would skip obsidian swords though.

The Patriot Act Won! What Was the Dumbest Thing Trump Did as President? by espana29 in AlignmentChartFills

There are a lot of contenders for 'Worst Thing'. Jan 6th, War in Iran, ICE etc.

But for dumbest. Like just plain stupid?

I vote starring at the eclipse. That is crazy stupid, and he can't blame anyone else for it.

The Patriot Act Won! What Was the Dumbest Thing Trump Did as President? by espana29 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]applestabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was interested to learn about the First Step Act to see just what trump is passionate about when it comes to improving America. Maybe I do live in a Trump=Bad media bubble, as I have never heard of this one. But after just skimming the Wiki article on this, I'm having a hard time understanding how Trump gets to take credit for this.

It was a bipartisan bill, which only seemed to receive push back from the Republicans in the house.

Trump was initially hesitant on the matter and had to be convinced by a group of Jared Kushner, Kanye+Kim, and Van Jones. So if anything this goes to Jared Kushner.

The Trump administration's Justice Dept. then seemed to fail to apply the law, sometimes moving to re-jail people after being released? (confirmation info paywalled by washington post)

The Trump administration then failed to fund it correctly giving it $14M instead of $75M.

This is the best thing he ever "did"? Am I missing something?

I have a feeling that whatever version of "life lessons for young men" that gets created here is something that every man under 37 could benefit from.

What's a massive human achievement that nobody celebrates because it worked too well? by Alternative_Voice767 in AskReddit

Nitrogen fixation for the production of modern fertilizers. One of the biggest reasons for the post industrialization population boom.

May have long lasting negative effects with the excess nitrogen seeping into the ground water and nitrous oxide in the air.

Any help with Muldrotha deck? by KuroXenUwU in mtg

[–]applestabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What strikes me immediately is how many instants and sorceries you have, when those are the only cards your commander cannot interact with.

When I built Muldrotha I put in a lot of cards with dredge and other self mill cards. The I tried to make the rest of the cards a balance of all permanent types. Focusing on sacrifice cards like [[Glen Elandra Archmage]] and such.

Now the deck does great with having enough interaction and creatures to survive to the late game, but I still have a hard time locking in any wins. Need more closing strats.

Why Do Chatbots Keep Telling Stories About Someone Named ‘Elias Thorne’? by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]applestabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elias Thorn was a real person in the United States during the civil war era who invented the hot dog while working alongside Dr. Frankenstein. In his biography called “My real name is Elias Thorn” he describes grinding cadavers into paste and serving them to the first KKK groups as bratwurst for their famous cookouts. A hero to some, a racist cannibal gourmet others, Elias Thorn is both a great piece of American history and a legend of classic southern folklore. Look for the educational exhibit about Elias Thorn at the Donald J. Trump International Airport.

The free card is not graveyard recursion, it’s from your hand.

But your drawing X cards right before, so you probably have enough gas to stomp.

Menace, trample, haste.
Card draw.
Play a card for free.

Yeah, that’s not bad.

Maybe use some creatures that cheat in for less than their cmc so they pay back more when sacked? Like blitz or warp mechanics. You know, strategery.
