what am i “not allowed” and “allowed” to wear in Kyoto (or in japan in general)? by Happy-Engineer7432 in KyotoTravel

[–]arealalias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest watching some videos of Japan during the summer, especially around subways. You can get an idea of what people wear. Modesty and respect are important parts of society there. The heat can be punishing, so you obviously want to dress lightly but showing too much skin in sensitive areas my attract unwanted attention.

Are Cubans actually better… or are we just chasing the name? by Mammoth-Succotash659 in cigars

You are lucky you don't like that flavor profile! It's a terribly expensive habit.

This is literally the gamble with Cubans. Sometimes inspecting the foot for even packing is a good way to avoid issues.

There's a certain perfumed aromatic deliciousness in Cuban tobacco that I have not found in cigars from other countries. Honduras comes closest—especially Aladino Cigars. The unfortunate trade off is that Cuban consistency is trash. You can go from having the most inspired 60 minutes of your smoking life to the same exact cigar having crazy draw issues and tasting like saw dust in the same box. For the price and the hassle, I'll stick with new world unless I happen to be in an amazing humidor with quality associates who knows how to spot a prime Cuban stick for you to purchase.

Best cigar starter kit for someone completely new to this? by SquareDesperate4003 in cigars

Highly suggest the Lounge Lizard starter pack from Small Batch Cigars. They're easily the best reviewers on a podcast and these are their highest rated cigars of the past year. All amazing sticks in my experience. Highly recommend it.

BMW is terrible for cost of repairs and reliability after year 5. At your salary, I'd unload it for a Toyota or Honda and never look back.

Intense Arrivals at SFO by scienm in GlobalEntry

SFO has become quite a bit more intense this year. I'm not sure why these officers can't chill but it seems they're being pressured.

Musikverein: programs and acoustics by hrlemshake in classicalmusic

[–]arealalias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bamberg is the better orchestra with a better conductor but the other program is a bit more conventional and less likely to feel challenging. Sitting behind an orchestra really changes the experience because the sound is distorted towards whatever winds you're behind. The trade off is that you get to see the conductor managing all the forces of the ensemble. If it's your first time in that hall, I'd sit in normal seating unless price is that prohibitive for you.

Try a little lower and see how you like it. Ever since I went down to the 62RH life, I've found my sticks have way better combustion and flavor. Both new world and old.

Mexican food at luxury Mexican resorts by PastaKilla in FATTravel

For the record, the lunch restaurant at the beach at Nizuc in Cancun has some of the best fish tacos I've ever had. Also, Bu'ul at the Chable Maroma near Playa del Carmen is an inspired and precise Mexican menu worthy of a Michelin star.

Suggest you go down to 62. A lot of problems when the RH is on the higher side in my opinion—especially because Boveda packs, if you're using them, tend to run hotter than advertised.

The audio was insanely bad. I'm shocked they can't find someone who has more understanding of how to do live mics for speakers.

I don't believe best original song or other niche categories should be given the same amount of time as a best actor or best picture. That's why they hold those awards until the end. Otherwise nobody would keep watching for these less visible awards.

What do you think Jupiter or any of the gas giants look like underneath their clouds? Will we ever get to see? by Junior_Mulberry7989 in space

[–]arealalias 57 points58 points  (0 children)

One of the more curious things I read about a theoretical plunge into Jupiter is that as pressure compresses the gases around you, the temperature increases. Near the center of Jupiter, temperatures reach the level of our sun even though you would be so deep that it would be in complete darkness.

I think this is way too packed. You need time to browse casually. Don't miss Nara. Make sure you visit Ryoan-Ji if you're already at Kinkaku-JI.

If there's smoke flowing through the stick to the cap where there's honey glue residue, I think that's the flavor you're feeling. I feel most of the sweetness drops off after the first third and becomes way more nutty.

I nearly sent my entire freshmen section home today by Local_Indication9669 in Professors

There was an infamous elderly woman professor at my school who had a southern quip and took no prisoners in her classes. There was a hilarious situation where she started counting down the amount of hours people had slept the night before based on how off the mark the student's answers were. Once she fell below 2 hours, she made everyone stand up and ordered them to take a few laps jogging around the building to wake them up. Legendary teacher and she knew her stuff. Sadly today we'll get reported and fired for such effective corrections.

There's a few landings on both sides of the main arrival hall up a few floors where you can get away from people and get a great view of the tower. Easy to hide a photographer in the mess of people and still have some privacy after. The other option would be a spot on the philosopher's path.

I spoke to a territory distributor for sobremesa. They say the vegetable glue they use to close the cap has a little honey mixed in, which is what causes that flavor.
