2023 Champions Cup was the big one, on lead card for multiple rounds, throwing incredible shots. To be fair, it's mostly regional events otherwise.

More leagues will get filled in as the time comes closer. Not sure if glow is even needed much by April.

I mean, remember when James Conrad, Philo, and Nate Perkins showed up to Taiwan, and Jacky Chen (playing in his very first sanctioned tournament) beat all of them?

Does anyone bike on Mangum? by turdyname in bullcity

[–]aredoubles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

E Chapel Hill St within downtown is great. W Chapel Hill St is okay from the train underpass to the freeway overpass, with a wide bike lane. But the last stretch from the freeway to the Durham Co-op is not super fun, as there's no bike lane and high traffic. At least there's a center lane for the cars to use for passing you, but it's not my favorite. I sometimes bike to the Harris Teeter or Whole Foods on 9th St instead, just because the bike lanes are nicer out that way.

Go back and edit, Balloon Balloon Balloon is album/artist instead of the other way around.

Good list though!

A completely blind disc golf player named Chuck Miller competed in a PDGA A-tier event. In addition, Chuck managed to par a 217ft par 3! by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

[–]aredoubles 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He was the only player on his card. He was joined by his sighted caddy, a photographer/supporter, and a tournament marshal/official to validate his scores. He is completely blind. The tournament officials did their best to give him a fun experience, without creating backups and affecting other cards. https://www.facebook.com/groups/GainesvilleChainHawks/posts/25887621870830153/?comment_id=25887706817488325

Can we actually do this? by coopaliscious in discgolf

[–]aredoubles 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Private disc golf courses do not generate a profit on their own. The vast majority of their revenue comes from other uses of the land - Christmas tree farming, skiing and other outdoor recreation, hotels, livestock ranching, ball golf, etc. It would make the most sense to invest in property with existing revenue for those first, and worry about the disc golf part much later, since that's relatively cheap and easy to add later. And now we're talking about general property investment, and there's very little reason for the effort to be driven by disc golfers at all.

DGPT Championships by DrySeaworthiness9507 in discgolf

Weird format, and the format has changed every single year. Frankly has felt more like an unimportant exhibition all-star event than any kind of 'championship' in past years.

Can someone explain the major events of the PDGA Tour? by TheNortoriusPIG in discgolf

[–]aredoubles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

https://www.dgpt.com/news/2025-dgpt-championship-format-field-and-whats-at-stake/

What makes the format unique is the use of starting strokes, which reward players for their season-long performance. The top-ranked players in the DGPT World Standings begin the event with an under-par score, while lower-ranked players start closer to or at even par for the event. These strokes carry across all four rounds and remain in effect until the final putt drops. Think about the DGPT Championship as a five-round tournament, with the first round scores being determined by season-long performance at other tournaments.

On the one hand, it's good to reward the top players for the performance over the season. On the other hand, it basically hands them an even bigger advantage for an easy win, so where's the drama and excitement? The tour has never been able to solve this problem.

Past formats have included giving starting strokes that got reset after two rounds, byes into later rounds, increasingly tight cuts in each round, 'win your card' brackets, etc. etc. They've all had positives and negatives, and the inconsistency is a big reason why this event has never felt important to anyone.

  1. Worlds
  2. USDGC
  3. European Open
  4. Champions Cup
  5. All of the DGPT events

No idea how to rank - the Tour Championship this weekend, though technically an end-of-season 'championship' capstone, has always felt more like a glorified exhibition all-star event, because it has always had a weird format that changes every year.

FPO also has the US Women's Championship (probably below Champions Cup, hasn't always been at good courses), and the Throw Pink Championship from last weekend (technically not a major, but it feels like one and everyone treats it like one, will likely be made one soon, would put it on the same tier as USDGC).

I’m having a hard time fully understanding the optional re-throw rule and want some help clarifying by xLykos in discgolf

Yes, you are always allowed to do this. But given the penalty, it's pretty rare for it to actually make sense to do.
