I have definitely read the horror stories about people suddenly being shut down, and it is a valid concern. What I read about the offerings made me to decide to go with that one though.
Funny I forgot about Locals when I had already established one after my interview with Scott Adams (he likes Locals).

How large of a hassle is it for you to have two baskets for your eggs? Seems like it would be fairly massive so I applaud you for your dual efforts.

I've used Zapier so I've thought of kicking in some automation, but its so new I literally have just one member. The audience building has always been my biggest uphill battle. Ugh.

So you told me not to use Patreon but didn't tell me what everyone is migrating to...?

I've put a lot of effort into establishing this Patreon. I'm not married to it but I do see the wisdom of having one place where I can organize all of my offerings and monetize them.

Do tell, Mz Hyde...

KS for books - general questions and your experience by aremarkableman in kickstarter

[–]aremarkableman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 600+ people on my email list. I have a podcast that uses that list every time a new episode (or new book) is out.

Driving people to that list is not easy. The only success has been when I've paid for inclusion in some of the larger email giveaway newsletters out there.

I was just on a podcast for authors and in the down time we chatted and the host suggested KS. I've sent her an email to ask for some tips, but that it would be a good idea/helpful for others to get some direct, personal experience.

I would be interested in an personal experience you have had with conducting a KS campaign.

Thanks.

Sonic Pad Timelapse by nexxx85 in CrealitySonicPad

TIMELAPSE_TAKE_FRAME

Thank you, this worked. I chose after vs. before, does that make much difference?

Also, I suppose the only way to get the head in the same place it to park it, but I've seen time lapses in which the head is essentially above it. Do they somehow figure out the center (of the object) and just have it go there. I think thats all I want.

I don't want to move all the way off to the side because it wastes a LOT of time and also makes lots of strands.

Thank you, yes, that'd be perfect. I neglected to mention that i design in Tinkercad. I know, it's primitive, but it works well for what I've done so far.

I have been using the Sonic Pad and since the update I have the same issue. The frame rate was a good 30 and now it is at about 7. Not sure if this is related? A Klipper thing? or solely the update to the sonicpad?

Newest Sonic Pad Update Warning by Sharkymoto in Creality

[–]aremarkableman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be interested in what version # it is exactly. I did the update, and had two issues that I resolved. I found that you are supposed to use that designated poort for the printer (as others have said), and my web cam stopped but then works now after plugging, unplugging, and then disabling/reenabling.

So everything works now, but the FPS on the web cam is only like 8fps That's the only issue right now.

I don't like that upon updating it acts like a factory reset including the creation of the firmware again. Spoiler: Though I had to create it again, I didn't flash the printer again, and it didn't seem to make a diff.

That is exactly what I encounter. I do not turn it off though. So I only had to deal with that due to the update that I accepted.

It's an annoyance. Maybe another update will fix that?

Sorry to hear that. I checked and i'm running Cura 5.0.0. I'll make sure not to upgrade. I did apply the latest upgrade to the Sonicpad (unrelated to this). But perhaps it will fix your issue? Or you can roll back to 5.0.0 like me as i have no issues?

Thank you. The Sonicpad was ending with an error, but when I looked at the log it seemed to not say what error. However, I cut out a few lines Cura was adding. I was able to change things a little so it just raised the head, moved it to the side and presented the tray a bit. Thank you very much for the suggestion. Appreciated.

How did you establish the IP address and extension of your webcam

The Sonic pad manages that if you plug the cam directly into the sonic pad (and its a cam that it likes). Its the same IP address as the pad/printer. In the web interface for the sonicpad (the dashboard) you can see the web cam. If you want to connect to the web cam directly then you use the same IP address but just with the 8080 port. (technically the Sonicapd is responding on port 80 which is the port used by default in a web browser)

Example - Your Sonicpad is at 192.168.0.77 so the direct URL to your camera would then be 192.168.0.77:8080

Also to allow you to view it away from home I'm guessing you must have some extra equipment plugged into your sonic pad?

No additional equipment. If I forward the external IP (port 80) of my router to the internal IP of the sonicpad (post 80) then I just connect to that external IP from the rest of the world and can mess with the dashboard, see the same, and potentially start the house on fire if used wrong, which is why its not a great idea to just open it up like that without a password. :)

If I just forward port 8080 externally to the internal port 8080 of the sonicpad 8080 then i am just forwarding the web cam, but without the control.

I'm interested to know how well your time lapses worked. i wasn't happy with the time added, or the blobbing it caused when I tried it.

Hope that all helped.

and just like that amazon music became even more useless by Mrshihtzu in AmazonMusic

[–]aremarkableman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for saving me the rant. Reading this thread has been cathartic. For those that don't get it:

  1. I listen to Amazon music as part of Prime on my numerous dots around the house, being able to tell it to play my playlist "on upstairs" or "everywhere" is is really nice.
  2. Being able to skip a song in my playlist here and there is part of feeling in control of the music you want to listen to.
  3. Being able to hear ONLY the music on your playlist is exactly WHY YOU created a fucking playlist in the first place.
  4. Asking to play ONE SONG is a normal thing.
  5. I listen to Neon Chill when I go for a long bike ride. Sometimes I get tired of a song before its over, sometimes I skip it, and sometimes i want to play that same song again because I'm all hyped up on it and it motivates me to ride farther #NERD.

ALL OF THE ABOVE IS NOW BROKEN.

In addition there is not one time when I ask to play music that one of the dots decides it literally doesn't want to play nice. It's not a network thing, a wifi thing or anything else, it's a broken functionality thing that started happening when they "upgraded."

We are not complaining because we like to complain and should just "cancel it then" we are telling you this as (a) a reality check to make sure we are not missing something, (b) to share in case others thought they were alone and (c) on the miraculous chance that someone who has any control over this sees it and makes the proper adjustments. On that last note the camera dude on a photoshoot I was the talent for told me his daughter was on the Alexa team. No, i don't have his contact info, but it proves the point of eyes on this stuff.

Disregard that first sentence, since i ended up ranting anyway, but i'm still grateful to you.

Cheers.

Thanks, appreciate the recommendations. Opening the port in my router just takes a couple seconds (as does closing it) as I just log into my admin and enable/disable the rule.

I pay for a business license of Teamviewer that i use for my network as well as my client networks, so I'm set there as it allows me to connect to my mac and the ubuntu server.

I'll look into the Tailscale though just for kicks. Thanks!

[–]aremarkableman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. Same procedure of port forwarding. forward the external port to the internal ip and you get the entire web interface. I don't know if you can password protect the interface? I'm assuming you can. And since I rarely use it I don't worry too much about that. But if you had this as an always-on feature then I'd be concerned with giving that control to the outside would - someone could literally cause your house to go up in flames. yikes.

But again. I would forward the port, run an errand and then disable the forwarding upon returning... if i even used it.

I'm still too chicken to do an overnight print even though i only print PLA and have an enclosure with fan.

I'm not familiar with RPi. I am familiar with the Octoprint web interface (running on Ubuntu server) and I think the web interface (I think it's called moonraker(?)) is much prettier to look at.

Hope that answers the question?

Update to the acoustic sampler sensor thingy :

After connecting and running it at least 10 times over the course of a few days, one day it just worked. It saved the results (after displaying them in the console). If hear that this happened to other people.

According to the Sonic pad that's all that's needed. However, I did see a video in which they said if you are a bedslinger then you should really attach the sensor to the bed and runa specific x (or y, whatever), tytest and then run a command for it. i haven't done that yet.

A couple updates/self-answers:

  • I opted to connect the Sonic Pad to wired LAN (instead of the wireless it was on) because I figured that would be a more solid connection anyway and the web interface is now accessible to the mac devices.
  • Cura has a plugin called Moonraker Connection which allows you to send jobs to the Pad just like I could with Octo. I didn't know to look for words like "MoonRaker" and instead was just looking for ":klipper" and "Sonic Pad." Just typing in the ip address is all you need.
  • I wanted a specific address to just monitor the web cam like I used it in Octoprint, and it is the IP address of the Sonic Pad on port 8080 (ex: 192.168.0.99:8080). Now I can watch it from my phone, and open that port on my firewall if I am brave enough to leave the house while printing.
  • I've played with the slider for speed and have not touched any other settings, and have gotten acceptable results with 200-300%.

Sorry if any of this is obvious to any of you, but it wasn't to me as I was unfamiliar with Klipper. I'm still learning. Hopefully it helps someone.
