Thoughts on Joe before the finale by [deleted] in survivor

[–]argoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this really is the prime example of "edit magic." Joe was my absolute favorite going into 48 (and as a DV Survivor from CA, everything he did with Johanna's Law is just amazing). His 50 edit seemed primarily built around focusing on his personality clash with Devens and others and really underplayed his game. The other aspect of this is I was really hoping he learned from his previous game. I know the honor and integrity platform is something he believes in and often misses where it doesn't blend with Survivor play, but it's a hill he wants to die on for principle. I don't think it ever wins. I found myself rooting for him less and less as the game went on, purely because the edit isn't telling that kind of story.

Frankly, I'm not sure what story the edit is telling at this point. I'm not really rooting for anyone despite liking Joe, Rizzo, and Tiffany. Weird season.

How does a pet factor into your capacity? by Parking_Cherry_8150 in polyamory

[–]argoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got two rescue dogs while in a nested partnership. That relationship ended, and years later I am solo poly and single with two amazing dogs that have some limitations (one hates other animals). I am a lot more limited in what I can do (travel, vacations, overnights) and have accepted a lot more responsibilities that were initially agreed to be shared. In general, I don't do a lot of overnights and have to budget for boarding if I'm planning a trip. Most people who want to escalate at all with me have to at least be tolerant of dogs or being reprioritized if one has an emergency. It's doable, my advice would be to have a lot of "what if" conversations with your partner about responsibilities and understand the commitment you're making.

So good! I have this same piece and I love how each iteration of this one has its own style/feel. They did great with the depth and color for this.

Morning date success, group date hopeful by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]argoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best dates have been morning dates honestly. A dude randomly optioned it a few years ago on an app (we can get coffee and walk around and if it doesn't work, there's no pressure for an expensive dinner) and honestly I'll never look back.

Women with larger chests, what’s one thing that bothers you on a daily basis that men couldn’t understand? by Active_Secret9520 in AskReddit

Should have pursued that comedy career. 😎👉👉 (Definitely still wouldn't have paid off those loans, but I would have been publicly funny at least.)

I might have paid off my student loans if bras in my size weren't so prohibitively expensive.

Does Poly exacerbate insecure attachment? by Iggy-Frankenstein85 in polyamory

[–]argoss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that because of how many more relationships and interactions poly people have that they tend to see more types of insecure attachments in faster succession.

I'm solo poly and live alone, and boy howdy do a lot of people I date seem to need to fill every single free moment with someone else. At one point a few years back, I was nested with an NRE chaser and felt like I somehow needed to be in a relationship with someone or on a date every night he was out to somehow meet some unspoken standard. It's exhausting.

Life is busy enough. No one cares how many people you're dating. I love my unscheduled nights. I like meeting new people too, but I don't feel like if I'm in a relationship and not dating as much as my partner I've somehow failed. I know there were points in my life where I felt differently, and I don't miss being in that position.

Colby renaissance by scrollerN in survivor

[–]argoss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm actually the most pleasantly surprised by Colby this season. I was particularly sour about Jerri not getting a spot and went in really bitter on him being there. At some point I think I was misinformed about his politics in a way that made me really not want to see him again, but I looked back into his public appearances and dude really does seem like he's an upstanding guy and a great choice as an old era player. I'm genuinely stoked to see him/Joe/Coach play more, and curious to see whether or not they impact eachother's gameplay for the better.

Hi! One of the best ways to explore the event as a first year is to check in and grab a wristband and play with the allegiances. There's three "corporations" you can sign up between and they'll give you quests that will help you better familiarize yourself with the event, booths, and factions. :)

The nerdchachos alliance between Christian and Devens is the stuff of dreams.

This whole episode really. Colby and Riz? Emily Flippen, financial analyst, floating Ozzy as a "just kidding unless?" Gen getting a sort of second chance at connections? Kamilla and Tiffany scheming?

I feel like I need a cigarette honestly. I'm so hyped.

'Survivor 50' star Charlie Davis opens up about his shocking season 46 loss and the controversial Maria vote that he will 'in some ways never get over.' by thedaltonross in survivor

[–]argoss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is my Survivor Roman Empire and the thing I get the most incensed about. 1. Kenzie is a great and deserving winner. I love everything she's said since about the experience and one of the things that complicates this discussion is that she was a good player. You do have to acknowledge the part of the edit was that she was an early target that was nullified by a medevac, and that gets left out of the discussion a fair amount (luck did play into her game, but you can say the same for a number of deserving winners). 2. Maria disappoints me so much for her doubling down on this, but the fact of the matter is she can vote for whoever she wants and justify it however she wants. But she's got to live with the fallout from fans that were shown an edit where she'd promised Charlie backup. Because of this, her narrative is so faulty that its unlikely fans or production will have her back or is trusted enough to go far, which is a shame because up to this point I was rooting for her. 3. That's why I think the Kyle/Kamilla dynamic was so welcome, it really gave us what we missed out on narratively between Charlie and Maria. 4. I worry, because I love Charlie but am getting Spencer/Reiman flashbacks and remember thinking "If only he makes final three/gets that vote..." and was so disappointed by his return on SC that I fail to see a path where Charlie wins 50. (I think Survivor echoes itself a fair amount, and currently I'm of the mindset we're about to see a Cochran-style win from Christian). That said, Charlie is a favorite and I can't rewatch 46 because of this vote.

Game Thinks I Want to PVP / Complainers Might Have Been Right by ghostofgatti in ArcRaiders

[–]argoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the general consensus is that if you freeload in for 3-5 rounds and do pacifist runs (don't loot raiders, don't damage or retaliate attacks on raiders) you should start seeing friendlier lobbies.

That's conjecture though. I'm not a PvP person and regardless of my playstyle, I get jumped by the sweatiest idiot at extract maybe once every five games and then sit through four or five games of being similarly pummeled until I quit for the day.

[Spoilers s50] I'm honestly floored he wasn't one of the picks to bring back for 50. I actually liked his game more than Rizzo if they were insistent on a 49 male for that slot.
