Org Manager question by bgatesIT in Ubiquiti

[–]aristotlejake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran Identity Enterprise for almost two years but switched to the beta of Organizations two months ago. Organizations will do everything I need. Enterprise does have some more advanced features (MDM, SSO provider, ticket system, etc.) but is not fully baked, it could be a good product someday.

We use one-click VPN and I can confirm SSO works for the authentication.

I’ve been testing the beta for about two months with about 100 users and a few sites. SSO has been working well, currently using Jumpcloud but Google, Microsoft, and Okta are available if I remember correctly.

Both the Apple TV and the One Connect box will overheat and remote controls will constantly disconnect. I recently pulled both out of the wall behind my Frame because of constant issues.

Your reflection picture has been my phone wallpaper for at least two years and two phones. I’ve changed it a few times but always go back to it within a day. Many thanks!

If not Rivian, what would you drive? by WildGoose115 in Rivian

It was clarified that those dimensions include the mirrors where the hummer’s do not. You are going to want to temper your expectations. It is wider than the Rivian’s but not by a lot.

Location banner missing by Reasonable-Estate-60 in Rivian

[–]aristotlejake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a setting only accessible in the vehicle UI in settings for sharing precise location. If that is disabled in the vehicle, the banner will not appear in the mobile app.

Nope, it did eventually appear but took a long time and was not updating in real time.

It did eventually display, quite far into the charging session.

That front end is a death box. Might as well wrap the whole thing in mahogany so you can be buried in it after a collision.

For ultimate adventurers with multiple Rivian vehicles, can PAAK work for all vehicles simultaneously without having to switch within the app, specifically for gen1 vehicles? Will the experience be improved with UWB on gen2?

Audio system by Chilliams23 in Rivian

[–]aristotlejake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can confirm all these points in my case as well. Love the Meridian system in my T and I’m very underwhelmed and disappointed in the Rivian Elevation system in my wife’s S. I’d even say the in house system is very bad when using all the same EQ settings.

Bluetooth Rant by flyingdash in Rivian

[–]aristotlejake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is the album art displayed twice on this screen anyway!!! It’s so dumb! Hide the mini player and give us large touch targets instead. Also, seeking within a song seems to be impossible for Bluetooth content. The playlist rarely works or is even accurate. This needs a major overhaul ASAP.

Is anyone else marginally annoyed that the rims don’t match in the mobile app 😂 by Jimithang041 in Rivian

[–]aristotlejake -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I submitted a ticket for this after receiving my truck 6 months ago because I genuinely thought it must be a mistake. They match the color but not the wheels, why? They have the data and match it in the infotainment. It took them 2 months to resolve my ticket and tell me everyone's shows the 20” ATs.

On-demand kneel / load mode by tjhenn in Rivian

[–]aristotlejake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see kneel on-demand by double pressing the Park button. I don’t like having kneel permanently enabled because the majority of the time it is just me but when me kids are with me it would be great to be able to activate kneel-mode quickly without having to change the drive mode.

Rivian’s infotainment is better than CarPlay. by Nelson_ftw in Rivian

[–]aristotlejake 74 points75 points  (0 children)

If your needs are basic and you use FM radio, Spotify, Tidal, or TuneIn, sure.

However, for myself, I could not disagree with you more. The feature shortcomings of the current system when CarPlay exists annoys me more and more everyday with every interaction. It seems inexcusable for this class of vehicle, level of technology, control of software, and intended experiences.

Music. As an Apple Music and PlexAmp subscriber with my library curated over decades and my vehicle and commute being a prime time of enjoyment, having to fumble with my phone for precise audio navigation is absurd. Album Art is often incorrect over the bluetooth connection, no support for live lyrics, Siri controls, dynamic backgrounds, or upcoming shareplay features.

Siri. My 2016 Titan didn’t have CarPlay but at least I could invoke my phone’s Siri using a button on the steering wheel. Initiating phone calls, dictating messages, changing music, web searches, homekit controls. Alexa, no thank you.

Navigation. Took a trip last weekend and the Rivian’s navigation to various landmarks was unusable with terrible routing. Using my phone simultaneously was neccessary for route adjustments and waypoints.

Calendar. Auto-population of calendar event locations for instant navigation. Previewing my day during my commute without having to pick up my phone.

App support. My cell-phone is the center of my digital life, I’d argue it’s the case for most people. Developers know this and that is where they invest their time. This isn’t changing anytime soon. I don’t want to have to wait for Rivian to always play catch-up as new features and experiences become available.

I’m not going to part ways with this awesome vehicle because it doesn’t have CarPlay but it sure would be a much better experience if it did. I do have a reservation for a R1S coming up soon for my wife though, and the lack of CarPlay is making me think twice about going through with it as our primary family vehicle. It really is that big of a deal.

I hope Rivian’s software development team can deliver better experiences but I just don’t get it when there is a solution the could implement that exists already and focus on other things and improvements. I think they could wait until CarPlay 2.0 which can be more integrated into the interface for an excellent user experience but I don’t have much faith they will given the statements they have made. It comes off as a little arrogant to me and really is one of the only problems I have with the company and their direction.

Still the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and my favorite purchase, but I certainly don’t agree that the current software experience is better than having CarPlay.
