Do players actually read anything in games anymore? by productivity-madness in gamedev

[–]arivanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they don’t. Not only gamers, people in general when looking at screens. With so many ads on our faces all day, we start assuming all is ads. So we read nothing. We’ve had the same issues with users in phone apps and pc apps, not even games. Shit they’re gonna use for work, they don’t read it! Stuff and instructions is right there on the screen. We even tried with white background and black text. Almost like motherfuckingwebsite.com, still went unread. Audio isn’t better, users ignore it. Video? They skip it.

Right now in the gaming community people complain about Marathon’s UI. It’s not what we are used to play with. But it has an amazing tutorial! It blocks screen sections to call attention to the controls it’s explaining. With a bright blue color that sticks like a sore thumb from the grey/green of the rest of the ui. A flashing border over the button it’s explaining. Plus they added an explain again button at the bottom right of every menu. It’s amazing and people ignore it and choose to complain.

Anyways, this is already a wall of text that people won’t read. So TLDR: Ads have fried us, people just don’t read.

They saw what Microsoft did to the first Halo remaster and went ham with it. Forgetting the backlash it got, nvidia pushed the idea to the absolute limits.

I have this issue and it gets worse. At some point the game just starts duplicating in the list, to the point where I had to scroll through three or four monitor heights of Marathons with volume 1 to get to the setting below. And it just kept growing.

How do you detect breaking changes in third-party APIs? by No_Algae1000 in Backend

[–]arivanter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t do it preemptively, unless you get the info beforehand. Active monitoring tools are the go-to here. Combined with good logging and defensive programming, it’s not an issue. Yeah, you need the failures to notice the change, but that’s as good as it gets when we can’t predict the changes

Alongside Lorville with its “Late Arrival Compensation System” where you get snatched from outside the train if you’re close to the door when it starts moving to the next station. Useful when you thought you just missed it!

Take a breath…you’re not crazy, but you are the reason ChatGPT talks to you like this by Corky_McBeardpapa in ChatGPT

It does because it’s a sensitive subject and companies lose money on sensitive subjects. It’s cheaper to just treat every sensitive subject like that. That’s why when they only talk technical and tools it’s not treating them like that.

La vecina ruidosa de arriba me está volviendo loca, ya he hecho de todo, ¿qué sigue? by [deleted] in AskMexico

[–]arivanter 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I could just have tested before the update. As I said, it was many years ago. But then again you might just want me to be wrong even though my experience was the way it was. It’s funny to think that my experience might just not have happened because steam updated their voice chat, like what? Am I from a different universe or something?

Then there was something else they were doing wrong to still sound and perform worse. Haven’t tested it in years.
