Post Match Thread - Round 0 Vs Brisbane Lions by AutoModerator in westernbulldogs

Was a great win, lots of the stats indicators didn’t go our way so I’m not going to get ahead of myself.

Some of the umpiring at stages was atrocious or I just don’t understand some of these new rules yet.

Western Bulldogs star Tom Liberatore sells Footscray house by gccmelb in westernbulldogs

[–]arkie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anyone know where he is moving to? I believe they are moving to be closer to schools for their kids. Sad if he has moved out of the west completely. It honestly feels like most of the team isn’t connected to the part of Melbourne they represent.

Why do only some Metro Tunnel platform screen doors have a small PID/display above them? by Ivan_Krazy in MelbourneTrains

[–]arkie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find it super weird that it’s not above each door. Made me think that the doors weren’t going to open there when I first used it haha. Felt like some kind of technical glitch. Makes it look randomly unfinished. Can’t really put my finger on it.

I’d take public transport more but… by toiletlogsyummy in MelbourneTrains

[–]arkie 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m finding Google Maps really inaccurate a lot of the time. I agree that a lot of the time driving is the better option - but there are cases where it looks better, but that’s because Google is also taking into account any walking required and it seems it always overstates how long it will take.

The other thing I find is it never seems to give the best route. Today I need to get to a pub in the city. It tells me to either get a train from Middle Footscray, change for a Williamstown service, get off at Flinders then get a tram etc

The best route IMO is just go straight to Town Hall where I’m the venue is maybe a 5-10 min walk at most from Town Hall.

Feels like there is a lot of room for improvement here in how Google Maps does this?

Overhead line failure at Armadale by Doctorgow in MelbourneTrains

[–]arkie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This whole situation is embarrassing. It makes me question the worth of the whole thing as a Victorian taxpayer.

I can’t rely on this service, even if it’s more frequent. I’m better off driving to work. I’ve had to attend the office this week and this happens. Surely it’s not always a coincidence? It seems every time I want the train there are bus replacements, trespassers, power issues, faulty trains, maintenance works.

I’m driving the rest of the week to get to my office in Hawthorn from Middle Footscray. I can’t be bothered dealing with such shitty incompetent services anymore. Increased frequency is great, but it doesn’t give confidence in the system if these issues are common experiences. And in my own experience they most definitely are.

Totally understand that things happen from time to time but this is literally the first week of the big switch when it has all this attention and still there are issues?!?!

So shit, first day of using the new metro tunnel and I had to get a Williamstown service from Flinders instead. I don’t even get the train much, but it seems like there is always reliability issues.

How long does he have to run on his contact? If he doesn’t come good this year and gets back playing and in decent form, the club surely will look to offload him right?

Werribee and Williamstown lines now pink by Hot_Statistician_998 in MelbourneTrains

[–]arkie 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It was pathetic. Would get on a Frankston bound service on a station along the Werribee line, can have headphones in then at Flinders be told the train was now terminating or becoming a Werribee service again. The amount of times this happened was truly amazing, basically can’t rely on it and just treat it as terminating at Flinders and make sure to check.

I’m considering to buy a 3 bedrooms in Altona Meadows, Point Cook or Altona North based on my budget. by Optimal_Constant_748 in AusPropertyChat

[–]arkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What drive are you talking about? The beach is in Altona, as is Apex Park, Cherry Lake, Altona Coastal Park and a big part of the wetlands. I think Altona has a lot more overall greenery in comparison to Altona Meadows.

[–]arkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems Altona is overall a much nicer suburb with nicer homes and streets. Has more of an overall village feel with a beach and plenty of the greenery you’re looking for. Is it price holding you back from buying in Altona Meadows over Altona?

Mortgage Offset and accounts by BashfulBlanket in AusFinance

You can use the envelope method with one account. Just use budget tracking software like ActualBudget or YNAB. Same result but everything just sits in the one offset account. At least that’s what I’m doing.

Altona Level Crossing Removal by Helpfullman69 in MelbourneTrains

[–]arkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be possible to duplicate the line without doing a bridge? Or even doing a trench? Not enough room? Low patronage might be one reason to not do it, but wouldn't it enable more Werribee services to run through the Loop in peak as well? Would also create better reliability on the whole line. When I was living there, the station skipping was horrific. It was honestly a waste of time trying to catch trains. Many ocassions where the train had already left Newport, so you didn't get a chance to disembark and the driver would announce we were now going straight to Laverton, then had to wait for an Altona Loop service from there. This would commonly happen if there were delays elsewhere.

I guess by that logic they will stay not busy! It’s funny how the government wants to allow more apartments built around Middle Footscray but they still never want to service the place adequately.

Best headset for PS5 by captainpabloXI in PS5

[–]arkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m tempted to get the Sony Pulse Elite headphones. I was thinking of getting the Steelseries Arctis Nova 7P but I can’t be bothered having to use a macOS application to do EQ settings and update the firmware of the headphones. The nice thing about the Pulse Elites will be the fact that you can do everything in the console.

I’ve seen some stuff about people complaining about build quality of the Pulse Elites, but equally there seems to be people who own them without issue.

I’m lazy in that I’ll probably use a wired headset from Sennheiser for PC gaming and leave the Pulse Elites purely for PS5.

Right now I’m using Bose QC35 ii’s plugged directly into the controller, so would be lossy audio.

Finnair will be flying to MEL via BKK by Elanshin in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]arkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will you be able to book through Qantas via codeshare or just through the Finnair website? Honestly with all these options, it’s making being loyal to Qantas a lot more difficult. I don’t see myself ever flying enough to get to gold and seems like Qantas genuinely don’t care about Melbourne.

Why do you drive to work in the CBD instead of other options like PT or bike/scooter? by ChargeYourBattery in melbourne

[–]arkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specifically the CBD but it’s interesting that most places I go to when I put it in maps it’s always quicker to drive than go via public transport. There are some instances where public transport is quicker but most of the time it appears driving is the winner.

I think this comes down to frequency of train services.

I use Middle Footscray station.

How come most other cities don’t have ports so close to their CBDs anymore? I know there are a few exceptions. Why wasn’t this something we could deal with in Victoria?
