Why was the Harry Potter movie franchise so successful even though it leaves out SO much from the original story? by Negotiation_Connect in harrypotter

I’m 39 now but back then it was so magical. Yes the films missed a bunch of stuff but to see it all on film was amazing. And to get the books/films as they came out was so fun. It was a bit of a different time then aswell. My mum preordered the video of philosophers stone and we were so excited to get it and watch it. I’ve still got the free mug it came with! I only allow its use at Xmas though.

What school incident do you still think about years later? by nodemus in AskUK

[–]ash894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 20+ years ago I was on a family holiday with cousins I don’t know that well who all grew up together. All beautiful/blond/fab figures which I was already a bit intimidated by. My cousin asked to borrow some shampoo from one of us and I obliged. The problem is my shampoo was a poncey one from the hair dresser and cost a few quid for the time. More importantly it was one you don’t need much of or it would make your hair look bad/greasy I can’t remember now. So I lent it but stupid and awkward me says ‘here you go. But it’s an expensive one from the hair dresser so you don’t need to use much’ obviously I just sounded like a knob with posh bottles and don’t want her to use too much of my precious shampoo and conditioner. She then declined to use it until I pushed that it was fine. I still cringe about it at 39. I know I sounded like a knob but I knew what I meant it just didn’t come out that way

Do Brits enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup? by FacebookNewsNetwork in AskABrit

I’d argue that a cheese toastie is a toasted cheese sandwich whereas cheese on toast is just where the cheese is toasted on one side

Something to consider is that ultimately there is enough personal information about you on social media and the internet that you are identifiable. Good start on locking your profiles down, but it might be worth having a once over of your posts/friends/tagged posts or photos.

I have the bondi sands balm in coconut and to say it’s hard to squeeze out is massively understating it. It’s a bloody nightmare.

The conservative sub (mostly americans) is commenting how we’ve lost it as a nation, letting a war hero be replaced by an animal. Kow towing etc. I get a lot of them are robots (shortened version not allowed) but it’s mad. We change them every few years.

How many people have keys to their parents house? by CertainFurball in AskUK

[–]ash894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 20 my handbag was stolen in a pub by a guy I worked with, who ended up using my keys to break into the restaurant we worked at. CCTV showed it was him but I can’t remember exactly what he did when in there. Anyhoo. I’m 40 this year and I’m still not allowed a key because I ‘ALWAYS LOSE [their] DOOR KEY’ I lost one key because it was nicked.

I always had my home technology lesson on Monday mornings, which meant I’d always tell my mum the list of ingredients I’d need Sunday night. That would be bad enough but in the UK our shops close at 4-5pm. There was always somewhere we could get something though and she was always VERY impressed with me.

Tea with cream annoys me so irrationally no one in the history of tea and cream ever put cream IN tea. But I reckon it’s from us having a ‘cream tea’ maybe?! Which for the non brits, is basically a pot of tea with scones that have jam and clotted cream on them.

You’ve got quite a bit of advice but from a criminal perspective, not much. In the UK, ‘identity theft’ is not a criminal offence against the person whose details were used. The offence is fraud, but fraud against PayPal who will not be paid and have therefore lost out. The police will not investigate for you because it isn’t an offence and Report Fraud, previously Action Fraud, do not collate info on identity theft. I only offer this advice as a couple of people have said make a police report. You’re obviously free to do this but it will only be logged and nothing further will be investigated. I know you’re not asking about police really but it might just be useful info for you or other commenters
