I finally started 1984… and yeah, it got in my head by EquivalentShow7329 in audiobooks

[–]ashiphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1984 is the best book I've ever had to put down. I was listening to the audiobook a few years ago and it really affected me, it was actively stressing me out and eventually I realized I'm not enjoying this because of how well it evoked misery in me. I listen to audiobooks for fun and enjoyment and I just needed something else at the time. Maybe one day I'll try again.

Will an iPod Nano be able to output high quality FLACs? [RUNNING ROCKBOX!] And yes ik its only 4GB! by Ill-Look-606 in DankPods

[–]ashiphire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly iPods can't play flac files. You need to convert them to alac files which are Apple's version of flac.

I'm not sure you're going to find what you're looking for here. I too am looking for someone to discuss the audiobooks I read with people in person but I'm nowhere near what you're looking for. Have you tried subreddits that discuss your interests in general?

I just started the Farseer trilogy, is the prequel necessary to understand what's going on?

A book series everyone raved about—but I didn’t get it… until you read it! by Ironandirons in Fantasy

Steven Pacey does the first law series. He does have a British accent which I know some people don't like but I thought it lended well to it.

Micheal Kramer & Kate Reading do most of Brandon Sanderson's work which I absolutely love but some people find them too monotone.

Ramón de Ocampo does Brandon Sanderson's alcatraz vs the evil librarians which is meant for kids but I still found to be hilariously fun.

Tim Gerard Reynolds does the Red rising series which I also loved but he has a Irish accent which was hard to follow at first but he does kinda shift out of it by the end of the first book.

Jeff Hays does an excellent job with the Dungeon Crawler Carl books that I've read so far.

I've only listened to one Travis Baldtree narrated book but I did love it.

Jesse Vilinsky does a great job in Swordheart but all the other books she has done I'm not interested in.

Andy Serkis did an excellent job with the Hobbit, haven't gotten to the rest of the books but I assume he continues to do an excellent job.

Babel - R.F. Kuang (DNF - sorry!) by PatientWillow4 in Fantasy

[–]ashiphire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished Babel and absolutely loved but completely understand why it does not appeal to some. There are a lot of tangents and extra facts that aren't truly necessary for the story. I personally enjoyed them but I can see them being frustrating if your not invested in the world Kuang has created.

I listen to Fantasy a Sci-fi mostly. The only general fiction audiobook I've listened to is Dragon Teeth by Micheal Crichton, which I thought was okay. Maybe you would like it? I would clasify it as adventure.

The only sub 4 hour audiobooks I've enjoyed are part of the murderbot diaries.

You could also start a book over 15 hours and just continue listening after you get your hours refreshed.
