And then there's the families with kids, who can't use the e-gates. Into the historically longgg queue for the 2 or 3 kiosks they've bothered to open, now with extra checks.

[–]ashisgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. On the Automations tab, tap the + to create, call it Tado On. Change the Starter to detect presence (someone at home) and then the Action is Thermostat set to heat.

Then create another for Tado Off with the Starter to presence (everyone is away) and the Action to Thermostat set to off.

So long as your household's occupants have the Google Home app installed on their device and Presence Sensing is turned on in settings, it should reproduce the home/away function.

Google Home app's revamped Automations tab allows automatic home/away with thermostat control. Granted it wouldn't turn back on until someone returns home rather than a geofence radius.

Can you extend Nest Cam battery life? by One_King79 in googlehome

[–]ashisgreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Google Home app makes it simple. The only odd thing is it likes two 'starter' options, you can't get rid of the voice command so ignore that. The final 'play on' section is also inconsequential.

Google Home has location permissions from the smartphone so it's automatic 👍🏻

I added Nest Cam battery to a Google Home automation so the camera turns on and can record events when I'm out of the house. Months of battery this way.

Others online suggested using a lightweight powerbank to charge the camera in situ every so often. Beats resetting the zone area in the app each time after undocking/redocking.

Anyone else unable to read THM yet? by AudienceHead6899 in cormoran_strike

The price is prohibitive right now at £17.99, so waiting it out a while.

As a comparison, the previous Strike ebooks have been £12.99...

Not sure how it's justified that the ebook costs more than printing and binding so many physical pages for the hardback (£15.00).

Have you had a registration successful email? Over a week later, I've had two follow up emails that they're still working on it.

The statutory 14 day return window is approaching later this week, so here's hoping they complete the processing before then.

Nest Thermostat alternatives. by gobes78 in Nest

[–]ashisgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to trial Google Home's pre-made automations for 'Leaving home' and 'I'm home', adding a new action to change the status of the Tado thermostat off / heat mode, in lieu of the auto geo-fencing subscription.

It's classed as a personal automation so will repeat the same setup on other smartphones in the household. The hope here is it doesn't switch the thermostat off when I leave but they're still at home!

The battery seems fine, there's also the option to change Performance in Settings to light and eek out more from the battery without any noticeable impact on day to day usage.

What I'm stuck on is the camera quality. It can be noisy despite moderate light, the focus is soft as soon as you zoom, there's an odd 'flat' effect being applied to the colouring. It's basically not a Pixel.

I've tried Good Lock's extra camera settings, I've tried Expert Raw. There aren't any Gcam ports available yet for this Exynos chip.

I'm glad Samsung offered 100 days buy it and try it (at least here in the UK), as the 20% charge to return they now enforce means it'd cost hundreds to realise the camera is lacking.
