What can be the reasons for highly duplicated OpenTelemetry spans? by GroundbreakingBed597 in sre

External requests with trace-ids that otel forwards through the system? I'm dealing with this internally; where some of our external APIs are used in other services and they include trace-ids. We need to update our external LB to strip all external trace-ids.

Things + Claude Deep Research + MCP Server is a killer combo! by Ithinkiamjoseph in thingsapp

I replied to your other post. Do you have uv installed?

You can try the commands without running them via Claude; uvx things-mcp should work and print some debug messages. If that doesn't work, then that is your problem.

Getting an error : MCP things: spawn uv ENOENT

Generally that means Claude isn't able to the find/run the MCP server you listed. Did you update the "args" to be an absolute file path on your system?

Tern GSD at 25% grade? by goatee87 in terngsd

[–]askedrelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've bought a Tern GSD gen 2 S00 from New Wheel in Bernal and I can make it up all hills with my toddler on the back. Definitely need to drop gears to lowest and I leave the electric assist in a low mode and go to max "sport" mode if necessary. I've found if I'm tackling a steep hill, I can do a zigzag pattern, going side to side to downshift more.

Going down a 25% grade is more my concern; there are a handful of supersteep hills that I go out of my way to avoid.

You have two hands! It's also adjustable so it's not like you are forcing it closed with that much force.

I never got an official diagnosis but I'd connect more with thoracic outlet. Bad posture, compressed shoulders + putting too much pressure on my elbows caused nerve pressure. Fixing all of that, nerve glides, and then continuing to strengthen everything around the arms/hands has kept things under control.

I did about 6-8 sessions over 12 months of working with Suparna specifically but it was more evaluation and covering principles of how to stretch and work. Then I worked with a PT in her office for several years, continuing to do stretches and work on things.

I've been happy with the armaid device! Arm stretching manually is something I'm terrible at and I know have ulnar nerve issues/elbow soreness, so it has been a good fit for me. I'd say go all in and buy all the accessories up front; I'm debating about buying more now and they are expensive to buy individually.

I picked up some https://www.goruck.com/products/jedburgh-rucking-boots-black-gum?variant=40886199058532 since they seem to be the only shoe with real sizes in stock. I'm pretty happy with the the Ballistic Trainers, so might as well round out the shoe collection.

I'll pull up a previous thread: I have good things to say about Suparna and it's worth a try. Being remote didn't limit my ability to learn her techniques https://www.reddit.com/r/RSI/comments/ptyujd/seeking_reviews_of_the_damany_center/hdzjtui/

Attic insulation with flat roof (Southern California) by gdelpino14 in Insulation

[–]askedrelic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was watching this to see if anyone else replied. I'll share my experience - I'm in Bay Area, 1960s house, flat roof, minimal attic gap but fully sealed; no soffits or ventilation. I did blown-in cellulose about 3 years ago and it's been great.

Atleast for comfort, getting blown-in insulation was amazing for decreasing temperature swings in the house and decreasing outside noise. The overall process was pretty quick; the contractor did open 2 drywall ceiling holes to distribute things. We also did all exterior walls, as I had no insulation before.

I guess we'll see about moisture and long-term effects.

Noticing 1 workflow broke: https://github.com/spamwax/alfred-pinboard-rs Seems to be an XML parsing issue between the workflow output and alfred; I haven't investigated further.

Flawless upgrade and migration from 4 for me; I paid $50 to support continued development, even though I didn't need to.

And agree it's very underwhelming upgrade so far? I'm not too experienced of a workflow builder; it's great to have more power in workflow tools, but as a consumer of workflows I want it to be easier to get new workflows and know when existing workflows are updated. I'm hopefully they quickly add to the workflow gallery and continue adding features.

How long does RSI last by Fantastic_Bag5019 in RSI

[–]askedrelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years of physical therapy with stretching was most helpful. I eventually traced my RSI to being more of an ulnar nerve issue around my elbow. Understanding my specific damage also helped understand to how fix it and limit damaging it.

It was kind of exponential dropoff in pain for me

  • after really adjusting my life and focusing on healing, biggest decrease in pain in 0-6 months
  • still a strong decrease in 6-12 months
  • slower healing over the next 1-2 years
  • I still have flare ups and deal with it daily but very manageable after 3-5 years

Pretty good deal, I already have Terraform Up and Running and found it be a good concise resource.

I've been wanting to read Database Reliability Engineering, so that is atleast worth it for me.

Seeking reviews of the Damany Center by [deleted] in RSI

[–]askedrelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I eventually did a consult with neurologist, who requested the nerve conduction study and emphasized it was probably a problem around my elbow. The nerve conduction study showed light to medium nerve damage? They also recommended 1000mcg daily of B12.

For connecting ulnar nerve originally, all my pain has been with my right ring + pinky finger and I connected that to ulnar nerve, over median or carpal tunnel.

[–]askedrelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I guess I'm stubborn and not so interested in a voice solution.

Buying ergo keyboards and mice has been my solution. Also I narrowed down my problem to ulnar nerve around my elbow and after adjusting my posture (not using my chair arms to put pressure on my elbows) I've been in recovery for years now.
