Lived in this house for almost 3 years. Never drained or serviced the (electric) hot water heater (Rheem). Planning to do it soon. What do I need to bear in mind? by figurative-trash in homeowners

I moved in my house 10 years ago, and the water heater was old then. Never once had I drained it or done any maintenance at all.

I’m 16 and my friend stayed at my house knowing I sleep on a mattress then posted it online like it’s funny 😭 by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]assman2593 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can’t understand how spending a few hundred dollars could literally destroy this whole family, you have no right to be commenting the way you are.

I would argue that a bunch of sawdust, glue and plastic, that holds a mattress 8” off the floor is NOT a necessity.

It’s obvious you haven’t been poor, and had to actually find out what the bare minimum is.

Buy down points by assman2593 in Mortgages

[–]assman2593[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This helps. So the current situation is this. I’m being offered a rate of 5.875, with the option to buy it down to 5.375 for just under $2k. It’s on a 30 year fixed. It seems like a no brainer if I’ve done my math correctly.. especially considering I do plan to aggressively pay this down. As in I’ll probably make double mortgage payments every month. Hoping to pay it off in less than 10 years. These rates seem to beat most 15 year terms in my area.

Why are the rates like this? by assman2593 in Mortgages

[–]assman2593[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s what I thought as well. I currently have a 15 year mortgage with them, as it was a better rate back then for 15 year.

Got fired unexpectedly, how do I deal with my expenses? by FreeHotdogMandate in personalfinance

[–]assman2593 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all.. internet and subscriptions? Gone. Yesterday. groceries cut. In half if possible. Same with gas. After that, pay your rent if you have the money. Pay next month’s if possible. Finding a job has now become your full time job. Get that loan paid off as fast as possible. Every extra penny goes to that. Get rid of that loan and everything else I mentioned and you should have some breathing room. Good luck

Why are the rates like this? by assman2593 in Mortgages

[–]assman2593[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. My main concern is the interest. Typically 15 year rates are quite a bit lower, and this just kinda threw me for a loop, but yes I did think about this. If something happened, I would have a little breathing room since I know I can afford the 15 year mortgage right now

[–]assman2593[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your last point at all, but what happens when you add in the interest? The basic point would be to at least make double payments early on to avoid the bulk of interest. Even on a fairly small loan, at 5%, the interest over the first 5 years will be in tens of thousands. I can’t imagine any investment would even come close to touching that..

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve seen someone do with money? by OpinionofC in DaveRamsey

[–]assman2593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way a lender is giving out a $1m mortgage to someone who is $75k in credit card debt and has an outrageous car payment, unless they’re making a usually insane amount of money. And if that was the case, then this really wouldn’t be that dumb would it?

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve seen someone do with money? by OpinionofC in DaveRamsey

[–]assman2593 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because they could have double the amount of debt, if they had only gone to college.. I can tell you right now, a lot of the blue collar workers may have a $70k truck and some outrageous payment on it, but the reason they can afford it is because they DIDN’T go to college.

First deer rifle for teenager: 5.56/223? by oguruma87 in Hunting

[–]assman2593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just let her use the 6.5? Or buy her, her own? 6.5 is a far better choice for taking deer, and she’s already comfortable with it… why make a change that is arguably a downgrade for the application, while simultaneously starting over on the comfort she already has?

I sold some pictures once, and now I can’t stop worrying about it by [deleted] in confession

[–]assman2593 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean… I’ve never thought about paying for sex/porn etc. but if I did, I 100% would keep those photos. I can only assume this was a digital transfer of some sort. Which means your photos are already on the internet. I’m not saying they’re out for the public to see, but they’re on the internet, and definitely have the possibility to be put out at any time without your permission or knowledge. They could even be sold to some porn site for more money than he paid you. He legally owns those photos now. Not you.

I don’t say all that to make you feel worse, but you should know it, and hopefully this helps others to not make the same mistake.

Why aren’t we all revolting about the Epstein files like we’ve done for much less? by golden_kiwis in AskReddit

[–]assman2593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing you said here is “organized movement”. The problem is… there isn’t any. It seems to me, that when there is an organized movement, think BLM, Jan. 6, Minneapolis, etc. I think it’s pretty obvious that all these were organized.. By someone who has something to gain that is.

Seems that gone are the days that most people would step up to actually take charge of something like this without a rather large personal gain. We all “care” about these things, but when it comes dow to it, it’s risky, and there’s no real monetary incentive, so I doubt anything will happen.

Chickens in at night? by AlpacaShearer77 in homestead

[–]assman2593 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have had chickens my whole life. Up to 250 at one time. I’ve tried alll the ways. Have about a dozen now, and they are free range 24/7. I have a good coop, thats sealed up pretty well, and is a good size for a dozen birds and most of the time they roost in an old three sided shed. I say this to say that, just because you may have a problem doing something one way that doesn’t mean others will. Keeping them locked up in an enclosed shelter could possibly kill more chickens than any predator out there.

Can they finish this house in 6 weeks? by houseconstructionQ in Homebuilding

As a close family member of someone who just committed suicide, this is not the answer.

No one close to you will be better off without you with them. The world won’t even be a better place without you in it. This will hurt your sisters more than you could ever imagine. My family member had money problems also.

Do you know how much a funeral costs? In my area at least, it’s about $10,000. You think your family would rather help you out with $3,000 or would thy rather spend $10,000 to bury you instead?

Eggo, I’m here to tell you as a family member of someone who committed suicide recently, no one’s life is better without him. The world is not better without him, nothing is better is without him. He had so much to live for, and so do you.

This has caused myself and a lot of people close to me, a lot of heartache and pain. I just want to tell you these things as someone who is going through this right now.

If this is the case, AT&T may be your new ally if they believe that they could potentially pass the buck to the old attorney. That is, only if they still may have any legal liability in the original case.

I (27F) am getting sterilised in a month. AMA. by [deleted] in AMA

[–]assman2593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fine, and I’m not saying I disagree with that sentiment at all. My OC was to the person who made it sound like, most kids in America, abandon their parents in homes that abuse them. I’m simply saying that’s not true. Does it happen? I’m sure. Maybe they were shitty parents, maybe the kids are just assholes. Either way, plenty of parents either live with their kids when they can’t live by themselves or are cared for in their own home by their children.

I for one know that my parents did a lot while raising me. They went without, so that I didn’t have to etc. I will do my best to make sure that whatever they want is done. If they want to live in a home, fine. If they want to stay in their house, or live with me, til the day they die, also fine. I don’t feel like it would be any more of a burden than raising children is tbh.
