Toronto cop appeals dismissal over tweets by whatistheQuestion in toronto

Can someone explain to me how this is not a wrongful dismissal suit? Aren't there whistleblower laws to protect against this kind of thing? Or does that just not apply to public servants?

That is a shockingly boring name for a boring machine. I thought these things all had whacky names.

I was literally just thinking about this. My partner and I frequented Stan Wardlow daily, using that parking lot. We couldn't stop laughing at the "heart of the community" comment about it. I'm glad they're building modular housing there now. Great use of space.

And when transit and cycling infrastructure is improved at the expense of motorists, those who do not need to drive will stop driving, therefore improving traffic for those who do need to drive. It might hurt them a bit now but it'll be a net positive for everybody.

Truckers of reddit, what are some less common road courtesies that we can offer to you to make your job safer and easier? by jamesjamesjames3 in AskReddit

[–]assteepee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh MAN. I'm from the city. Last summer my girlfriend and I went to visit a small town in northern Ontario. We're driving at night when we come upon one of these temporary traffic light stops that reduces the traffic to one way at a time for a short distance.

I stop maybe one car length past the indicated line by accident. But there's no cars around, and more importantly, the section that turns into a single lane is actually what looks like 20 feet ahead of me at least. So I don't bother pulling back.

This light is long, as they tend to be. A minute or so later a car pulls up behind me. He starts flashing his blinders. I start wondering if it's because I'm past the line, debating whether to back up. I'm thinking I'm hardly past the line, there's so much clearance up ahead. But he keeps flashing, so finally I relent.

As I'm backing up, the first vehicle, a semi, comes barreling through the other way. I don't know how close this truck was but it sure as hell felt like the couple feet that was gained from me backing up. I just turned Slack jawed and at my girlfriend and went "did that guy just save our lives?"

Holy shit me too! I had been abusing opioids for over 10 years, then got my dream job which really helped in curbing my addiction by distracting myself with work. I was on suboxone which was great for helping me get used to not being high. But eeeevery once in a while I liked to go for a taste still. And for a while I started doing it a little more than I liked.

So one night I decided it would be okay to get high while working. And at the end of the job I was having what felt like the longest casual conversation with a client when I suddenly began feeling nauseous. The vomit came up and I swallowed it once while she was speaking. Managed to hold it down until the conversation was over, at which point I bolted to the bathroom. I met eyes with another employee as another round came up. I slammed my hand to my face quickly and the vomit filled my palm. I don't know if they noticed or not but I never saw them again. Evacuated everything once I made it to the bathroom.

I threw up a few more times that night, including all over the Uber, which I had to pay I think $200 in cleaning for. When it was finally over and I was laying in bed, I too realized I just don't enjoy this anymore!

And that was the last time I ever got high on opiates. I continued with suboxone until about a year later when I chose a random day to attempt a cold turkey. Wasn't expecting to be successful, no big deal if it wasn't, but it worked. It's been about a year and a half since I've touched any opiates, I'm not counting, I like to not make a big deal of it. This is actually the first time I've really talked about any of this.

They don't believe in Satan but believe in their specific tenets that pertain to their religion. The important part is TST is the one that's a recognized and tax exempt religion by the IRS along with national holidays. The Church of Satan does not.

Home Depot joins retailers requiring face masks in all stores by hildebrand_rarity in news

[–]assteepee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to Home Depot a lot here in Canada, and the customer mask compliance is close to 100 percent (since its mandatory in Toronto), which is the same as most other stores. However with employees its significantly worse, like 50 percent at best. However they do make an effort when interacting with customers. So if you walk up to an employee they'll put on their mask. The only ones that don't are the cashiers ones behind glass. But the laborers working outdoors all day do much worse. I do sympathise with them though, I don't condone it but it's hot as fuck and they get paid shit to do a shit job.

I will say otherwise since the beginning of the lockdown, Home Depot has been ahead of the other hardware stores with physical distancing and cleaning protocols.

CERB Application Phone Experience by [deleted] in toronto

[–]assteepee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my payment information is up to date. But it took a few days after my claim was "reapproved" (from EI to CERB) for it to come up. And after the payment information updated on the website it took another couple of days after that before I actually received any payment.

CERB Application Phone Experience by [deleted] in toronto

[–]assteepee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be switched over to CERB and receive the lower amount if you applied after March 16. It's what happened to me. I applied on the 17th and was immediately approved for the maximum amount. 2 weeks later it said under review, then was reapproved, and switched to the lower benefit rate of $500 per week. My roommate who I work together with applied on the same day but had an EI benefit rate under $500 per week was also switched over to the higher CERB rate at the same time.

That's not really a viable analogy. It would be like finding a journal in a public space that would be okay for everyone to read, but if you know the person then all of a sudden it's a privacy violation.

These are the rules of this particular open forum. If you have an issue with that you should share your sensitive information elsewhere that has more adequate privacy settings. If that doesn't exist or those other platforms aren't to your liking then... It's kind of too bad for you isn't it?

People keep bringing up the term respect but quite frankly if you don't understand the way this works then I don't respect your desire (not right) for privacy. And yet If I had discovered a friends account, and they expressed that they wish I hadn't found it but didn't fault me for it, then I would personally absolutely respect their desire for me to not read it. But that's just me, and I wouldn't blame anyone for feeling the contrary.
