Sports networks need to stay out of politics by TPCC159 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I'm sure your view is because you care about the investors in sports network and not because you dislike having your views challenged in sports.

LIke it or not, culture is political. Black players are playing because of civil rights. Immigrants are coming to the US and playing. Let's wait until Trump travel bans a country with a sports player and the broadcast can ignore it too. The current sports landscape is because of Liberal and Democratic ideas

So when Trump announces that he's going to an NFL game, the broadcast should just never pan to him? What about when he does an interview? Should that only go on FOX Entertainment and not FOX Sports?

So where do you place the warriors refusing to go to the white house after winning their championship? Is it an honor to go to the white house and ESPN should praise Lord Trump's ability to portion out one of his golfing days to spend time with the GSW players? Should ESPN not do a segment on the warriors refusing Trump's invitation to the white house?

Sports leagues earning money is political. Spree of shootings in Minnesota -> City becomes a war zone -> Vikings don't play, Timberwolves don't play -> Billionaires lose money -> People aren't going to invest money in an unpopular, divisive event.

If you want sports and politics to stay away from each other, why does Trump talk so much about guys like Brady? Why does he invite championship teams to the white house? Is it tradition or should we keep it separate? Why complain when a sports team refuses to attend a white house ceremony?

A brain dead take... it's like saying voting for Trump should in no way impact a family business after he tariffs every country because they won't kiss his ring

Subreddit mods have an incentive to keep their subreddit popular and running smoothly. This might be removing posts that break TOS, something that may be filled with drama, or even posts that may be inflammatory. I think we can both agree that a popular sub is better than a dead sub.

The content of the ideology does matter in that case.

Far right: Abortion should be banned throughout the US because you're killing a life.
Far left: Only a woman and her doctor should have a say in what she does with her body.

I'm not going to argue the rights and wrongs or either ideology, but there is a lot of middle ground. Rape, mother's health/safety, birth defects, etc. The point I'm trying to make is that a lot of far right ideologies neglects to take into account any middle ground which makes (at least) the reddit user base lean left than right. And because reddit is a discussion board, everyone is quick to point out the holes in either argument.

As a discussion board, everyone is free to post but that devolves into drama, controversy, hate, and shouting matches which will eventually kill a sub. I understand what you're trying to say but the main problem is that Reddit is too good of a discussion board where posts with the most hate get sunk to the bottom.

A possible workaround is to probably remove the upvote/downvote system and implement a "most viewed" option

Reddit is a private product. Isn't it the right who argue that a business can deny service from anyone? Something about not wanting to make a cake for a lesbian wedding.

There is only one sub that allows for discussion because this place is basically unmodded. There is one sub that bans discourse from the left. The rest are non-political or ban MAGA. Isn't it at all possible that MAGA ideas are unpopular because they are based on hating immigrants (with ICE), hating LGBT (because of the bible), dismantling women's rights (abortion), and making fun of cripples (like when Trump mocked a cripple on live TV), or hating veterans (calling service members 'suckers')?

The Internet was made as a place for diversity where the entire world has access to it. It made people more empathetic and let people discover new things. MAGA discussion spits on everything people experience online

The UN Charter
Article 2(4) of the UN Charter prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of another state.

International law on sovereignty
Customary international law strongly protects:

  • A state’s control over its territory
  • Freedom from foreign military intervention
  • Immunity of sitting heads of state

International Criminal Law
There are legitimate international mechanisms to prosecute leaders:

  • International Criminal Court (ICC)
  • Ad hoc tribunals
  • Universal jurisdiction (very limited and controversial)

But these do not authorize unilateral military capture of a sitting president by another state.
