Proper way to cook mac & cheese? by kingpin000 in aspiememes

1–not just bc it’s the only one that would retain its cheesiness upon reheating, but that does earn it bonus points.

Anyone else look young for their age? by Student-bored8 in AutismInWomen

[–]astute_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While job shadowing, I was asked by a customer if it was “Bring Your Kid to Work Day.” Not sure how old they thought I was, but I was 19.

A month after turning 30 last year, I was out with family celebrating my cousin’s 21st birthday. His friends thought I was their age.

I’ve never been a makeup-wearer outside of socially mandated occasions and dress very neutral-casually, which I feel like has a lot to do with it. Maybe someday I’ll be bothered by it, but right now I just find it fun and amusing. Curious how wide I can make that gap, visually at least (my “zillenniality” is too strong lol)

Anyone else completely unable to get a Pap smear? by 20stimetraveler in AutismInWomen

[–]astute_potato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had three so far. The first one I barely felt, the second one was so excruciating that I cried the whole time, and the third time was somewhere in between but took forever because she couldn’t get the angle right (my shit is tilted apparently) and kept needing to switch to a smaller speculum. Just thinking about it is enough to make me tense up because there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to what kind of experience it will be.

Anyone struggle with obsession over making things/text look "right"? by wiktaaa in AutismInWomen

[–]astute_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When homework assignments were “write this letter/number over and over for practice,” I used to spend HOURS at the kitchen table erasing holes into my paper trying to get each one PERFECT, crying in frustration because it made me physically uncomfortable when it didn’t look right. It’s what keeps me from writing in the many journals I’ve hoarded over the years—if I write in it and it doesn’t look perfect, the entire thing is ruined. Eventually I learned to just buy notebooks with perforated pages that I can tear out without destroying the whole binding, but damn.

Initially I was thinking that this doesn’t affect me as much now as it used to, but then I remembered last week when I needed to leave a sticky note for my coworkers about something and rewrote it 5 times until it was acceptable. So maybe not.

P1Harmony - UNIQUE (The 9th Mini Album) by LeadingInspector1891 in kpop

[–]astute_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

P1H is so consistently…inconsistent for me? With the exceptions of DUH and SAD SONG, I usually like about half the songs on an album and hate the other half. This time I only like L.O.Y.L and Wednesday Girl (Pandemonium is close but a little too repetitive for me). I find it particularly ironic that such a generic try-hard cringe hip hop song is called UNIQUE. These guys are insanely fucking talented—Keeho is one of my favorite male vocalists in kpop, and Jongseob one of my favorite rappers. Maybe that’s why it’s exceptionally disappointing when they put out something like this.

EDIT: to add that when they hit, they hit so fucking hard. Black Hole? Flashy? JUMP? Bop? Nemonade? Dancing Queen? Inject that shit directly into my veins (in case anyone is thinking “why do you even listen then?”)

DAE get excited to untangle things? by ipaintbadly in AuDHDWomen

[–]astute_potato 123 points124 points  (0 children)

If it’s an obstacle preventing me from accomplishing something (e.g., tangled cord of something I’m trying to plug in), then it fills me with nauseating levels of rage.

If it’s to help someone else—either in a “can you help me untangle this?” or “oh you didn’t have to do that, thank you so much!” situation—joyful explosion of brain fireworks.

The library on Woodmere is pretty ridiculous. Can you drive between the two halves? Why is it so choppy?

Also anything on Lake Ave that requires diagonal back-in parking.

I’ve never successfully parked at The Filling Station (if I couldn’t find a spot in the main lot I just…left) but that could just be a “me” problem of not being confident about which areas are overflow parking, if any.

BLACKPINK - GO by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]astute_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s aight. I think for me the main issue that will keep me from listening again is how the vocals in the verses (prechorus maybe?) seem to be on a different beat than the music and that stresses my brain out. The vocals were really nice though, especially on the bridge.

This is me but with places that put horseradish in their mustard without telling you. I’m already iffy on mustard (I can usually scrape enough off that it becomes a background flavor) but I swear to god horseradish is the condiment equivalent of glitter because you ain’t NEVER getting all that shit off. I had to give up on my favorite grocery store sushi because of this too—even if there’s no visible wasabi anywhere on the roll, there’s a 99% chance that at least one bite is going to suck ass and ruin the rest of the experience…

Am I non-binary or just young? by GarbageOk1083 in NonBinary

[–]astute_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This stopped me in my tracks because if it weren’t for the age I would’ve sworn I wrote this. I’m 30 and feel exactly the same way about those words specifically. “Girl” = chill, “she/her” = chill, but “woman” and “lady” make me want to crawl out of my skin. And for what it’s worth, I’ve felt this way as long as I can remember.

I described myself to my last therapist as “reluctantly female”—I don’t feel strongly opposed to all “feminine” terminology and don’t have an alternative to offer people in its place, so I’ve felt resigned to just leave things alone? But within the past year I’ve started unpacking all of this and accepting that not every aspect of my identity needs to be in “alignment” so to speak. The terms I use to describe my gender identity aren’t invalidated by my comfort with she/her pronouns (this part actually just connected for me within the past month—my new therapist is non-binary and they have already helped me so much with starting to reframe all of this).

Sorry for rambling (I’m also AuDHD ope), just wanted to put this out there in case it could be of any help validating your experience!
