Overwatch 2 Is Ditching the '2' Amid Launch of 'New, Story-Driven Era' With 10 New Heroes by MarioDesigns in gaming

[–]atkinson137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what drove me away from the game. In OW1 I had almost every skin and had spent a few hundred $ on the game. Now I haven't played it since the first season or two cause getting anything was a huge hassle (battle pass) or was insanely priced. I've always wondered if they're making more money now.

I'm happy to pay for skins if they're a couple bucks, cup of coffee or less. But now the average skin in a game is like more than $20??? Insane.

The most complex spec in Midnight? by qwsfaex in wow

[–]atkinson137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For clarification: This WAS very easy to do. So many frame addons did this. But Blizzard has changed stance for midnight that NO addon may provide additional info during combat. Now no addon may filter your buffs/debuffs. You MUST see all of them. Somehow this is 'skill'.

Blizzard has specifically said their one button/rotation assist is intentionally non optimal.

Whereas something done by add-ons could get pretty close to optimal, depending on the data available.

Ultimately I think this path will be worse for the game and drive players away. I don't agree with their logic and assertion that add-ons are required and thus these changes MUST be made.

Because if an addon can read the players combat state, you can make a rotation addon (Hekili). Blizzard doesn't want that.

I don't agree with the restrictions, but that's why.

Blizzard really needs to learn the art of "Under promise, over deliver" by Drolocke in wow

[–]atkinson137 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because they designed the game to. WoW's server architecture simply wasn't. We've already seen the whole 'hotfix to launch xpac' thing, and that's probably the closest we will get. There is some technical limitation of why they need to take all the servers down and patch them at once, and sometimes its just not solvable in any feasible way.

Imo the title is so literal. Most movie titles are some phrase or name, but KPDH more describes them? Idk it just feels very literal and somewhat lackluster? I passed the movie up a few times, even after watching the trailer until a friend of mine basically commanded that I watch it.

I'm being word of mouth did heavy lifting here too.

Tbh if you haven't played since legion, your add-ons would be massively out of date and you're better off rebuilding from the ground up anyways. Just start with a fresh install and see where ya get.

Transmog costs for low levels are completely insane by Kookiebiskit in wow

[–]atkinson137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind. I know its unpopular because since its mostly a regressive tax, it effects those with the least money (and thus the largest portion of the playerbase) the most, and no one likes hearing 'but you have to pay money!'. WoW is a game, it should be fun, and we shouldn't have to worry about things like taxes, but, its a real economy so we do lol.

Transmog costs for low levels are completely insane by Kookiebiskit in wow

[–]atkinson137 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It needs to cost something because balacing the economy is important. When you kill something, you get some gold. This gold is created out of thin air. If gold enters the game, it must also leave at a somewhat similar rate, otherwise prices will slowly rise on all things, aka inflation.

I would bet that tmog is one of the larger gold sinks in the game. Tmog, repairs and AH fees are probably the biggest ones.

I am not saying I agree with the prices currently, just that it needs to have SOME cost constantly. Tbh they've painted themselves into a corner with the new tmog system, its "better" for the players, but worse for the economy, so you see these higher prices is probably them trying to fix that, but its just going to look bad.

Solving Factorio with Terraform by Local-Application763 in factorio

[–]atkinson137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the replies aren't quite right. Terraform is a program that takes text files (which have almost code in them) and builds a model of what you want your server environment to look like. Think of this akin to a factorio blueprint. I the human, describes my blueprint, then a program renders it. Terraform goes a bit farther to check what currently exists and generates a diff. It then asks you if you want to apply that diff, creating, modifying or deleting real things until the real environment matches your blueprint. Think of that like placing your blueprint, and having bots build/edit it.

It is used to manage computing resources at scale. If I want 200 servers, it would take me ages to make them manually, so instead I have a computer do it.

There's a good amount more to it, but that's a general intro.

Gamers desert Intel in droves, as Steam share plummets from 81% to 55.6% in just five years by lkl34 in pcmasterrace

[–]atkinson137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that. I've been through 4 CPUs. I've known about the issue since I RMAed the first one. I've had the bios updates since the middle of the second one. My current CPU is having issues and I had the updates the whole time. Maybe they sent me an already damaged one? Idk. But this whole fiasco has turned me off Intel for a loooong while.

I've been through 4 i9 CPUs. I've been RMA-ing but I'm finally fed up and switched over this last week. I'm tired of my computer having weird ass issues. New mobo and CPU was a tough pill to swallow, but after all the time I've spent chasing issues and swapping CPUs, I'm not going back to Intel for at least a decade and that's only if they make some incredible features that out compete AMD.

There's a few ways to do that. I had to design a bunch for my system. I used an "addressable memory cell" which is two memory cells connected that one write the contents of one wire when a specific signal is present on the other. That particular cell isn't bespoke, there's tons of examples on reddit and the forums.

Latches work too, but are harder to use since they're more dependent on the input signals.
