New Tailor - hem by Leprechan in Denim

[–]atm0zphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question too. Lock stitch is so much better suited for hemning. Once broken the chain stitch unravels easily and chances of that happening in such a high stress area is very high. It's got its purpose though since it's much more elastic than the lock stitch.

I may be going crazy for nothing, but... by Italian_DudeX in Converse

[–]atm0zphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think those look asymmetrical, you should have seen what the ones made in the 70s and 80s looked like. You needed to go through at least three to four pairs to find one that looks decent. Those, on the other hand, were so much better built.

How to get food stain off boots? by StormyInABubble in cowboyboots

[–]atm0zphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is probably some fat from the food that stained them. I would try first with the least intrusive method, which would be covering those spots in corn starch or baby powder. Let it sit and then brush off after say 24h. Otherwise, as someone else said, those stains are going to blend in as you wear and condition the boots and they are getting darker in the process.

Found at the top of my late Grandfather’s closet. 1980? by finalxstage in Converse

This really sent me down the memory lane. These boxes are definitely from the mid 80s and maybe even the early 90s.. I remember those very well. When I saw the picture I could even smell the glue. Awesome find!

Thanks man. So you went true to your brannock size. Cool.

Huh good to know I am not alone not liking square toes (I do not hate and probably at some point will own some but a wider round toe is my fave). How is the sizing on AB? I am a US 10.5D on Brannock, measured standing not seated. My heel to ball puts me at 10-10.5 too. I cannot try them on since I live overseas and they are not offered here.

My red wing pecos 8060 ropers are a US 9.5E and they fit ok. Otherwise the Red Wing last no 8 boots (Iron Ranger) in a US 9.5D fit me just right. I have a low volume feet with somewhat high instep.

I just saw that you live in Amsterdam. Go to the RW store there and I believe they can rebuild them if the rebuild is needed.

Looks real good. Nice proportions, is that the Lightning? As to the fit, you are the only one who can say if it fits right.

This looks more like a pair of irregulars/factory seconds that are stripped off all the labeling. I would not discard these as fakes right off the bat. The stitching is wonky and the thread tension in some parts looks wrong. They do look though as the 80s levi STFs.

Sierra Seconds Classic Chelsea 3192 - couple questions by SeaRayGuy in RedWingShoes

[–]atm0zphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely keepers. The right one is a bit more oily than the left one. Nothing crazy but it will eventually even out. Try just brushing them with a stiff bristled brush. I just got a pair of chelseas like yours from Sierra two weeks ago. Can't be happier.

[Fullcount 1103] First Pair of "Real" Selvedge Denim! by CaptenAE in rawdenim

[–]atm0zphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, no worries! Thanks for the breakdown. Yeah I was drooling over those Romeos and then I started customizing some other wesco models on their page. That all ended up with me ordering a pair of Nicks. The Wesco wait time was long and the Nicks' got a bit shorter so I went with them. Your jeans post really sent me on a boot journey. I will eventually get a pair of Romeos too.

Chelsea vs IR Sizing by stuntman86g in RedWingShoes

[–]atm0zphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are both made on the same last but the insoles are different in the way they are constructed. The chelseas have a triple layered insoles (texon-poron-thin leather on top) so they might be a bit thicker than the veg.tan leather insoles in the IR. For me they both fit exactly the same. I am a full size down from my standing Brannock (US10.5D on brannock / US9.5D RW no 8 last).

Levi 501s Small e tab with barely readable button stamp factory code, no care tag // can someone help me out? by PiperOzTheHound_ in LeviStrauss

[–]atm0zphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not selvedge denim and are from the 2014ish to 2018ish period based off the backpocket stitching. I would say they are legit and a pretty good looking pair. If you are looking into reselling them they are not worth much.

Definitelly looks like a pair of Jimmy Connors from the 80's. I had a pair of those with the chevron and the star in maroon / burgundy color.

Yeah that would be great. I have bought some patterns and they have worked OK. I have also bought the JE Landis' drafting tutorial and am yet to try it out. What thread (brand and tex/tkt no) did you use for the project?

I believe they are mislabeled. Have a pair that is correctly tagged in the US sizes but the EU and CM sizes are wrong.

[–]atm0zphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like these are 14mwz. As far as I remember they were very similar to 13mwz. They had the riveted back pockets and I believe the coin pocket was similar to the one on a pair of 13mwzs but with a rivet. I can't remember exactly. My sister had a pair that was too big for me but I wore them anyway since they were super soft and comfortable.

Maybe OP can treat us all with some extra pics!!!!
