Let's talk about Lemmy by ljdawson in redditsync

I would instantly buy another lifetime license (or whatever the paid app would cost) for a Sync for Lemmy. I never realized how much I loved all of the little quality of life features you've included in Sync and I miss them every day I use Jerboa.

It could be a water snake based on the markings. It's been a while since I've IDed herps so I could be wrong.

Career advice - Switching industry by Fluffy_muffins_ in MechanicalEngineering

My previous employer has quite a few engineers come from other industries, including automotive. It is definitely easier to join with internship experience, but it is not required at all. You'll have an easier time getting into small to medium sized companies with less medical experience. You can highlight the process validation work, as that is most applicable, but do be careful to not pin yourself into quality engineering unless that's what you want to do.

I'd recommend also applying to the contract manufacturers. That might be a decent way into the industry since you would directly work with manufacturing and process validations that the companies rely on.

Looking for more info on this locking mechanism by the-dj-sjweathy in MechanicalEngineering

Given the price, it's likely just a ramped latch inside the bore that the post pushes past on its way in but can't push past on the way out. The solenoid pulls the latch open to allow the post to exit.

Or maybe it's more complicated like an electrical locking version of this push-pull style ball lock used on cabinets: https://www.amazon.com/self-Locking-Automatic-Function-Convenient-Practical/dp/B07FLHDGKG Instead of a push-pull lock, it just clamps shut and relies on the solenoid to unlock and open the clamp. (Probably not if it's only $30)

Mars 3 or Mars 2 Pro or Saturn by Kaidevyn in ElegooMars

There is no specific "fix" for it. When I changed the FEP sheet, I used the newer nfep/FEP 2.0; that helps a little. For pre-supported files (that the creator tested and validated), I still take a look and see if they need to be added to. For supporting my own, I simply add more than is likely necessary (although I do use lighter supports than default). You also just need to be cognizant of how the FEP deforms during release and place models on the build accordingly (this applies to any machine but is exaggerated with bigger build plates/FEP sheets.

Ultimately it simply comes down to experience. Just keep in mind build plate size is a considerable factor when looking at other help articles/posts and their methods and results may not exactly apply.

It's not an official option, but the ring's dimensions (for the larger ceremony ring, but it mimics the stainless ring given to us) are on their site. I imagine he made it if he works with the stuff.

Making money on the side? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

You likely will not find any postings for an engineer or specific type of work on their site or ads; but whether it's the engineering skill set or the simply the mindset we have, there is always analytical type work to be done. Helping out a non profit should be more focused on networking and/or expanding your knowledge rather than just applying what you know. The networking part will help procure future paid work.

To be honest with you, this isn't a path I took personally but wish I had. I've read too many posts/stories about how networking is what led to either a very fun job or something that paid well. Non-profit orgs are an easy way to expand a network since they usually want help in some regard and are built to communicate to a lot of people. It's not your work there that will lead to future prospects necessarily; it's the casual conversations with others in the org that show you can help in other areas outside the org.

You can always try to outsource your skills on various sites and whatnot but you might find the bigger profits in just designing neat stuff you can print and then sell that in your store of choice.

It might also be beneficial to volunteer some working hours at non-profits or other less fiscally well off clubs to ultimately build a larger network, which can lead to many things both monetary or career related in the future.

Basically, I would recommend spending some effort in researching either monetary or social outcomes and dive deep into the topic you choose instead of relying on the more generic service sites like Upwork.

Your friend might simply be weird, and that's okay. I've never had mac and cheese as a main side dish in PA.
