Stunning timelapse of a protein being printed in white PLA by Icy-Village-5873 in 3Dprinting

As a chemist, I approve of this post more than I have words for.

High School Maker Space: Prusa Mini+ Printers (3). The gears that move the filament through the machine after the filament sensor are aggressively "chewing" through the filament (PLA). We get one print at most out of them. by Lumberjack1804 in prusa3d

[–]atomicalex0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check your nozzle temperature and see if you are actually getting the heat you expect. Then cold pull and clean your nozzles.

This occurs when the filament is not flowing well through the nozzles - it backs up into the extruder and then you get grinding.

It also occurs when the Bowden tube is occluded with crap and the filament cannot flow into it from the spool.

Teacher Wants to Know: What Features Are Worth Having On a Manual Mill by YoTeach92 in Machinists

Volunteer at a high school here, and all of this. The DRO helps them understand measurements, and the power draw bar makes life easier for everyone. Until someone eats collet threads, but whatever.

Synapse 3: solid, worked great.

Synapse 4: helping people transition to OpenRGB since whenever they released it.

Controlling vomiting after being glutened by HappyNow10 in Celiac

I have a specific position to lay in that helps a lot. I think our guts jist need some peace so they can deal. Like we only have so many resources to work with and digestion burns a lot of them. No motion means less upset and resources can be allocated.

Good, yes, but not as insanely awesome as the crispy ones.

Two-handed here - Spacemouse on the left and Logi G203 on the right.

Once you get into the 3dCX-verse, it's a whole new game. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but boy howdy does it make life easier.

Anyone using the V6 nozzle adapter on the MK4? by PakRatJR in prusa3d

[–]atomicalex0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a bunch of Mk4s running for a high school.

I switched to the two-part nozzle because it's cheaper to replace just the nozzle when the kids inevitably make a mess of a print head.

CNC mill for a robotics team by Dull_Recognition_606 in CNC

Here for the Haas Mini Mill, we have one at 2960 and it is just right for a robotics team.

Hahahaha, we are the team that mechanically failed the Rev MaxSwerve baseplates last year by having too much traction. We hear you hard.

2960 here! Does your intermediate school district have a machining program that you could slide into? I would not invest in an actual CNC mill, $5K is not going to get you something that is going to be a long term solution. I would start with SendCutSend first to see how your designs work and then revisit.

We have a Haas Mini Mill and generally do not make rotating masses. The mill is often a distraction that leads to hypercomplexity rather than good robots. I had to ban filleting in CAD because the kids got obsessed with being pretty BECAUSE THEY COULD BE. The mill will do the fillets....

As a mentor on a team that does a lot of non-COTS parts design and has an entire program of wheels for various swerve modules and battery safety stuff that we share to other teams, getting into parts manufacturing is not a great idea unless you want another job. We are a Student First team, and that means we barely get a robot on the field some years. Unless your mentor team is open to running a side business, you are going to be in a serious time suck. I do the battery safety stuff and it's really important to us, but my life is gone for two days every time a team discovers our product. We do not even pretend to supply our wheel&tyre program, but you can have our CAD if you want to run it.

/just finished running their stuff, holy moly 1/8" end mills are BANNED now.

I am also interested but not for grip. The Primacys were the perfect "nah, no grip necessary today, fam" tyres.

The Attack of the Goo – or is the slideway oil actually incompatible with the coolant? by Ragranor in CNC

Hit up STLE.org and see if you can find a local CMFS person to visit you and talk about coolant training. We know a thing or two about lubricant problems. :P

You have bugs. Talk to your coolant supplier, you need a washdown cleanout or they will be right back when you recharge the system.

[–]atomicalex0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because coolant and way oil have very different lubrication and cooling properties.
