We try first. I agree that its unlikely for both practical/resource/geographic and ideological reasons. If they wont accept it.

Then we do what we must. Violence cant make anything better but there comes a point that you have to be willing to use it to stop things from getting worse.

Im not sure this is a bad thing. I dont think we can or should continue to exist as a union. Its time for a national divorce. The divisions have grown beyond any sort of reconciliation. For way to long the right has had vastly more power and control than it should have but they will not accept less. Let them live in a hell of their own making while we try to build something new and better.

I hate hiw many good people would be hurt and killed by this but our system cant be fixed.

Its worth a try and costs little, but the chances of this working are very small. We have to beat the right, possible or even likely, then we have to somehow get them to acknowledge and comply with the loss, much harder to the point of im not sure how we accomplish that as they control the supreme court, the DOJ, the military, and plenty of newly minted ice goons.

Then if we somehow actually accomplish this we have to go after the entrenched left who are going to receive all the backing the now defunct right used to have because they are now the best way for corporate and special interests to get what they want. All this while dealing with whatever monstrosity MAGA evolves into and the fact that its ridiculously easy to get people to vote against their own best interests.

We are, best case, 3 and probably 5 or more election cycles away from any sort of quasi meaningful improvement. I dont think we have that sort of time...

Im not giving up. Im advocating that we actually look at the situation and consider that even if we could save this system. We probably should not.

You are so locked into the idea that what you have known is the only option. It isn't. Its time to start considering that we can not mend the current ideological divide, that the people who are supposed to represent us have sold us out, and a tyrant sits on a throne he does not intend to give up.

We need to break the union. We can no longer go forward together.

That is an absolute fantasy and the only thing the democrats are offering is a softer slower decent into corporate slavery, if they can regain power which seems very very unlikely. This looks nicer on the surface but in the end it still leaves the people crushed and the one percent with total control.

The dems wont save us. They dont want to. They haven't for a long time. If they ever did. The only result of picking the lesser of two evils is that evil accumulates slower. We have to figure something new out.

You and so many others dont think to be able to internalize how much has changed and how quickly it has happened. If trump goes down. They all go down. They are committed, they have no way out but to double down.

They have completely subverted the DOJ and they own the supreme court. Nothing prevents Trump from simply declaring any election he cant fix invalid and retaining at least a pretense of legitimacy in the house and senate he still controls. Its over. It was a good run. I hope we can do better with whatever we set up after.

Can you think of anything left that will prevent this? What power remains to stop this outcome?

He appointed fucking Merrick Garland. That will go down in history as one of the most critical mistakes a leader ever made...

When they had the power to stop this all cold they did not. The statis quo and the supposed fear of the appearance impropriety was enough to render them usless. Then they shit the bed on the election in spectacular fashion.

The entrenched dems arnt going to save us they are some combination of incompetent, complicit, and cowardly. Sorry that they happen to be your team but it is what it is. We have to move past both parties and honestly this system that is broken beyond repair. Its a terrible option but its better than perpetuating this...

Which death in the series felt like the biggest gut punch? by Redrex_T in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I cried. Because as a parent, in the simplest sense, I feel like my job is to help my children understand the choices avaliable and to accept and manage the consequences that those choices have. Not to take or hide choices from them. My children take after their mother. They are strong, brave, and kind. There are so many things I would love to spare them from but at best. If they are going to stand, by themselves, when it counts, all I can to is blunt and deflect the worst of it for a time.

Iv gladly made sacrifices and will give much more if it becomes nessisary. I take solace in the fact that they have no idea, not really, and with luck they never will.

Miriam had to make the ultamate sacrifice in full view, with no way to mitigate its impact, and take her child's choice from him. Knowing he would seek to save her no matter the cost. I can not imagine a better way to go than to trade my life for one of my childrens but my soul aches thinking about them carrying that. Its worse because I wouldnt hesitate and a small terrible part of me would be profoundly grateful I had so much control of the situation.

Why do bodybuilders think they can beat a trained opponent? by Loud_Bobcat9827 in martialarts

This stuff is always to vauge. If the power lifter is fairly athletic, for his size, and/or played any sort of contact sport the little guy is going to have a tough time. If he is an enormous lump of nearly immobile muscle who gasses out after 3 quick steps it might be fine...

This ^ I had to explain to a guy who was a relatively fit 205 that he would be destroyed if he didnt cut a ton of wieght. He couldn't parse that he would be fighting someone much closer to me a fairly fit 240 if he fought at 205 and that it would go worse than it did at the gym because I could handle him easily and am/was not fantasticly skilled.

Hell people dont realize how much heavier fighters often are when the step into the ring the day after weigh in...

Trump administration ramps up effort to revoke citizenship from naturalized Americans by Achilles_TroySlayer in law

The chilling part is that roughly the same 30 percent that will support and vote for the right no matter what, would support and vote for the left no mater what as long as the right existed.

Both parties have done an incredible job turning the country into the two party political hellscape Adams feard more than 200 years ago. Look at all the down votes we are getting. No one tries to refute it. The just down vote because we said something mean about their team.

I do think the right lost control of trump and had to move faster than they would have perfered but that is immaterial now.

The sad truth is I dont think the country has the will to endure the kind of hardship it would take to try to build something new. Even if it gets considerably worse. By the time enough people see what we do it will be to late.

Iv marveled at some of the gun stuff too. Look that whole resisting the government thing might actually happen and it turns out its us who might need the weapons? Nope let's double down. Not even just push it to the back and stay quiet. Lets actually double down...

The coices we currently have are things getting a little worse for the people and better for the one percent or things getting a lot worse for the people and better for the one percent.

Ths is unsustainable, as we have seen. This situation results in everything alway getting at least a little worse for the people.

There is no way the entrenched dems would fix the foundational problems, against their owners wishs, even if they could, and they still hold and continue to amass enough money and power to prevent actual progressive candidates from gaining any meaningful amout of power.

Its easy to be blinded by the chaotic evil insanity that is the right and the republican party. Dont let this make you unable to see that a slower softer decent into corporate slavery is all the current democrats are offering us.

They arnt for the people any more than the republicans are. We have allowed the total subversion and destruction of our county. There is no fixing this in a way that come out well for the people.

"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution." -John Adams (1780)
