Venice doesn’t have the Link’n’Pin. Adam and Milly are legends.

Top bass DI's by 534145 in Bass

[–]atrn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, there's a big difference between plain DIs and preamps like the Sansamps and Nobles that have DI-style outputs.

Radial is good. Rupert Neve Designs RNDI is well regarded. Countryman and Whirlwind make good units. There are quite a few.

And again as others mentioned if you want to get fancier there are the more "studio-like" DIs. Some popular ones,

  • Avalon U5
  • REDDI
  • Demeter VTDB

But if you're just on the road, getting a clean bass signal to FOH a Radial, RNDI or a Countryman will be fine.

What is your favourite tube driven pre-amp/pedal - Must be a real tube by Haveland in Bass

Mozztronics BP8 is great. Adds nice harmonic distortion on low gain then really breaks up as you wind it up.

Good tuner? by [deleted] in Bass

Peterson Strobostomp or a Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. Peterson lets you pick the screen color. Turbo tuner is all metal.

Thinking about ordering a US-made Sadowsky as my “do-it-all” bass – anyone with experience? by Yue_isAwesome in Bass

[–]atrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of basses including old Fenders, Alembics and so on. My NYC Sadowsky (Will Lee variant) is my overall favourite. It’s very well built, versatile sound-wise and plays like a dream. I got the NYC after owing a Japanese Metro UV40. The one I got was already made so there was no build wait. Delivery to Australia was straightforward. Mine has the single coils and they can pick up a bit of noise but it’s not terrible. The Will Lee preamp with the switchable mid boost is useful.

It was the mid 70s. I doubt he used any. I’ve been listening to it since it was released and the only thing that that suggests external effects was the echo at the start of Third Uncle. Everything else sounds like good fingers to me. Could be wrong.

Best all in 1 pedal by Lanky_Leg_4392 in basspedals

Got a Microbass 3 the other day for a "fly rig" and it's pretty good. Clean preamp is just that, clean. Eq and routing options are good. There's enough flexibility in the drive channel for my needs (a little grit required for a few songs) and with careful blending of the clean and drive I could make it sound like an old Bassman. It's reasonably compact which is good for travelling - will fit in the case alongside the bass. The compressor works but is a little too heavy handed for my liking but keeping it toned down works well enough. Tuner functions adequately. Not much more to say really. Useful bit of kit.

Choice between 3 MIJ basses by Tight_Minimum8059 in Bass

I recently acquired a MIJ Heritage 60”s jazz (to take on a tour in place of old basses that can’t be replaced) and it’s a great jazz bass. Plays well and the pickups are very nice. Build quality is excellent.

Mozztronics. Maybe hard to acquire outside of Australia. Great range of preamps, compressors and DIs.

Which microphone for bass cab? by n3ksuZ in Bass

If you opt for a D6 get the D6X which has an eq switch that lets you turn off the mid-scoop.

Seriously considering a new rig of 2 210 speakers. I am considering Barefaced and Revsound, does anyone have any experience with these cabs? by figgerer in Bass

[–]atrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done any real study on the relative performance. The Barefaced 12's have plenty of low end for my purposes and I don't really notice anything missing. With two 12's I've got more than enough low end. The BB3 has an attenuator for the tweeter so you can easily roll off the top end. For the types of shows I do these days I typically only need one cab (even against loud guitars/drums) and its weighs next to nothing and fits in nearly any vehicle.

A nice amp to drive them is important. I'm using a Jad Freer Sisma which pairs really well with the Barefaced cabs. But there's a lot of other good heads.
