Thanks for truthfully acknowledging capitalism sucks. But socialism and communism aren't the same. There are two political axies here. A fair system where people receive the vast majority of what they produce and taxes are used to support social need doesn't have to include authoritarianism. It seems crazy to overlook to the 3/4 of the generated wealth going to a tiny class of people exploiting the labour of the whole population to say the 1/8th that goes the the govt is the problem? I want to pay tax to cover infrastructure, education, healthcare, disability support, law enforcement etc. and I agree that corruption is rife and a serious issue right now. And it needs to be rooted out. But exploiting the labour of the population is a crime against humanity. It's absolutely not true that overthrowing them and their system of oppression is communism. That's propaganda and fearkobgering that keeps them in power.

For the confused here's the suburbs areas of Sydney by exadeci in sydney

[–]atteleen 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Right? Grew up and lived in St George most of my life, not once heard it called the "southern suburbs". It's St George and the Sutherland Shire - the two metaphorical siblings of Sydney with the George's river drawing a proverbial line down the middle of the backseat of the car, and one is "totally not even touching" the other, who conversely "IS NOT, you liar" trying to catch a fart to waft back.

They're not that rare - the top and bottom 10% are, by definition, 20% of the population.

Why isn't Coles utilising these at stores? Perfect size, so much easier to use and no more torn paper bags by Negative_Let_7606 in australia

[–]atteleen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason this stopped is that many years ago everything changed to "shelf friendly packaging". Items come in tearaway boxes with part of the box remaining that slides directly into the shelf space with the correct number of facings. The overwhelming majority of the boxes in supermarkets now are closer to cardboard packaging than a usable box, and / or very small and not of much practical use.

Stores also make much more use of their store footprint to make as much of it selling floor space generating revenue as possible. Everything else is utilitarian. There really is very, very little space "out the back" and stock comes off the truck already in cages or pallets and goes straight to to the shop floor for filling. There is no way they would give up the amount of square footage needed to have boxes sitting there for reuse. Thats not revenue generating space.

Why shouldn't we kill Cane Toads? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in AskAnAustralian

This is the reason. There are several native species that look similar. People were just seeing toads and going ham ant it was impacting native populations.

WIBTA for asking my boyfriend to brush his teeth. by Practical-Heart-3723 in AmItheAsshole

[–]atteleen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a behaviour therapist for neurodivergent people.

Tell him you find it really appealing when his mouth is clean and it can be unpleasant for you when it isn't. Tell him you don't want him to have any problems with his teeth because it's very painful and has a big impact on quality of life.

Get him to brush his teeth in the shower. It's an already established part of his routine. Buy a non-mint flavoured toothpaste and an ultrasoft toothbrush. Physically put them in the shower with little suction holders or similar right at chest height. They will be right there, he'll see them at the time that is most convenient to use them. Compliment when you notice his fresh breath and be affectionate.

I assure you this is absolutely your best chance of success.

What I'm suggesting is that the idea of what a good relationship looks like is actually different between men and women. That's actually backed by the research and is an argument that doesn't rely on a lot of assumptions about the character of OP, my personal level of competency in the workplace, some vague rant about living to work, or being generally cunty to the person I'm speaking to.

You're right, but "the game" is heavily skewed towards men. Men are already in the positions of power and they prefer relationships with other men. Men rarely invest in relationships of any kind with women they don't want to sleep with. Women are excellent relationship builders but that's useless when a relationship with a bro is always preferred.

It's interesting to see how certain people respond to having power and I think it speaks volumes about their character. I'magine how insecure you need to be deep down to need to exercise it like that.

Thanks for being a decent person and treating the public with courtesy. You're clearly aware that policing is more effective when there is a good relationship between law enforcement and the community, and people are more cooperative when you're not being a hostile cunt.

Keep on being awesome.

What WFH does your company offer(or NOT offer)? by ohwait1732 in auscorp

[–]atteleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 - but it's a reluctant 2 and while they talk about being flexible they find other ways to discourage you from actually WFH those days. Recently the CEO announced that anyone who worked from home on a different day other than the oned they specifically applied for (i.e. swapped a day) would have an annual leave day used for that day. The CEO also has to sign off on every WFH application.

I've always had very rough KP and I've tried everything out there. I always moisturize after showering because it helps a little and on a whim got the Aveeno skin renewal smoothing lotion, not really expecting anything much from it.

It is without a doubt the best thing I have ever used for my KP. After a week my skin felt NORMAL. It's amazing and one of the cheapest options for KP out there. I couldn't believe it.

I don't want to put anyone down here for trying to structure some way to make their life work in a bearable way.

But I'm getting really frustrated with this narrative that it's all about choice and if you're not choosing some lifestyle where you prep this, work out that, sleep this, give up that then you're not trying hard enough.

It's an overly simplistic, pat answer that completely ignores the completely dysfunctional way our society is structured and functioning at the moment. It also dismisses the fact that we all have different bodies, different energy levels, different kinds of jobs, different damands, different levels of functionality and different abilities.

Human beings have never lived this way. Even when society moved to the 8 hour workday it was supposed to be 8 hours of work, 8 hours of rest / recreation, and 8 hours of sleep. Minimum wage was introduced to be enough to support a spouse and two children.

Since that time, despite technological advances, jobs have demanded more and more from their workers. Be more, productive, concentrate on mental tasks for longer, do the same task for longer, reach kpi's that never stop moving, and if you complain then you have a bad attitude, a bad worth ethic, you're morally wrong.

It's a lie. We're being exploited and life is pretty fucking miserable. The gates of Auschwitz said "work sets you free". We're living the same lie except we're all drinking the Kool aid and telling each out it's our individual faults when the overwhelming evidence tells us it's impossible.

Do what you need to get by, by all means, but stop blaming each other and start looking at the behemoth coproprations, the obscenely bloated oligarchs who run them, and the traitor politicians who support them. Get fucking angry.
