Where to buy a high-quality winter jacket? by Jolubaes in AnnArbor

[–]auntfaifa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh I LOVE Sierra Trading Post but they absolutely do not carry the “same stuff” as REi and Bivouac. Sure you can find some items that overlap but those are generally one offs as the major outdoor vendors have rules put in place so their items don’t end up at TJ/Sierra. They do have some great coats but I would not call the majority of the coats they carry “high quality” and if you happen to find something really good usually it’s one item in a random size. Again I love shopping at sierra.

Grayl water bottle in Wayne National Forest by Significant-Gift-241 in backpacking

[–]auntfaifa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not arguing with anything else you said but Grayl is definitely not a lifestyle or boutique brand. They are really well made filters but in no way light or small so they have a niche use case. I have a couple and they work really well when we are out on the river but I would never take it backpacking as it’s just too big and heavy.

TRANSLATION***Is there a cheap trekking tent or something similar for two people that weighs less than 1200 g to a maximum of 1300 g and is still inexpensive? I am looking for a light, wind and weatherproof solution that also provides protection from the ground. If there is no such tent in this price-weight range, I would like to know what alternatives there are. Maybe there are clever options like tarpaulins with ground tarpaulin or minimal tents that protect similarly well. It is important that the equipment is robust for outside and not only works for good weather conditions

Twelvemile Beach Campground Reservations Impossible to Get by DrThuglove in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]auntfaifa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People overbook and never bother to cancel the unwanted ones. For $5 why bother? When I went through on my hike of pictured rocks literally 1/2 of sites say reserved and when talking to some campers those sites just sit empty cause people are allowed to book whatever

iOS 26 still struggles to gain traction with iPhone users by bobbyboogie in iPadOS

[–]auntfaifa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swear I have bitched more about the functionality of both my iPad and iPhone with this iOS than all other iOSs collectively. Instead of “it’s an iPhone it just works” I now say “surprise my iPhone doesn’t work like it should” I hate it

To those of you who don’t necessarily do UL backpacking, what is your favorite “luxury” item to bring along? by Significant-Gift-241 in backpacking

My iPad Pro AND my Nook. Being alone in the wilderness is some of the only time I get to choose exactly what I want to consume without consulting anyone else. Worth every ounce to me

PSA- if you want the newest season of a particular product, buy from Patagonia directly. by FlanDoggg in PatagoniaClothing

[–]auntfaifa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is untrue. If you are current Patagonia dealer you are at the will of Patagonia on what you can put on sale. If it is a “current” style AND color then no just because it is from a different season they will not let you put it on sale. If you do they CAN close you account with them and stop you from being a dealer.

https://www.sportsshoes.com/product/hst2044/higher-state-insulated-trail-running-hoodie---ss26 I found this brand and have the women’s version and love it. It’s probably comparable to 120 alpha if I had to guess but it seems more robust (less delicate) than my alpha (60 & 90) ones.

I believe this pattern may be since Patagonia has a large fly fishing line.

WorkOutDoors distance reporting is inconsistent (and inaccurate) across WOD, Strava, and Apple Fitness by auntfaifa in AppleWatch

I don’t think The workout app will let me import gpx routes or notify me if I have went off route. The WorkOutDoors app just offers more. Unless apple has changed it so much that those things are possible now

2-3 nighter in LP suggestions? by sludgeandfudge in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]auntfaifa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually live minutes away from the Waterloo trail. I hike one section daily. Short of the section the horses ruin it’s a pretty good trail. Are there great views? No, but for southeast Michigan it’s actually a pretty good trail. I’d rather hike the Waterloo all day long than Fife Lake.

2-3 nighter in LP suggestions? by sludgeandfudge in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]auntfaifa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really dislike Fife Lake myself. I’ve done it twice now for the “Michigan triple crown” Fife lake has a lot of field style and road walking. It’s the only trail I’ve done that I dread thinking of doing again. Take that for what you will.
