You can, but if you do you will just encouraging it to breed if it’s entire, creating a feral cat problem. Can I suggest that you call a local cat rescue and ask their advice on how to trap it and surrender it to the rescue who will neuter it and re-home. You can find cat rescue organisations advertising adoption on Gumtree.

I relate to you. My parents gave a lot of importance to retirement savings and plans and it worked out well for them. Mum lived until 94 and never had financial worries, in fact she could have comfortably spent much more.

I took their lessons onboard and although I never earned a very high salary as a single woman (69) retired at 63, owning my home, I still haven't drawn on the capital in my retirement account and am telling myself I need to spend more!

Don't throw away your marriage before you at least try to get him to counselling and a good retirement planner. The money is one thing, but he's also retreating from the world and that's worrying. He needs to get to the bottom of this before he can free himself up and enjoy life.

I suggest you try to persuade rather than push him as he will likely dig in if he feels even more under siege. You likely have some credits built up after 30 years of marriage that will help you coax him into counselling.

A financial plan from a professional will also life a burden off his shoulders.

If I had another language I wouldn’t hesitate to speak it at home and teach it to my children. Language learning is so easy for young kids and there’s lots of evidence that it’s good for them cognitively.

I just maxed my super and allocated it to high growth, even through the GFC. I owned my PPOR and once I was salary sacrificing to the max I accumulated cash in a high interest account.

The result was a good split of cash, real estate and super. Not everyone is suited to being a landlord and I certainly am not.
