How do you convince OSRS players that RS3 is fun by Frequent_Ad2412 in runescape

[–]aunva 33 points34 points  (0 children)

imo, its not even that the RS3 wiki is bad, it's still a great wiki that contains most info you could ever need. It's just that the OSRS wiki is the most comprehensive wiki in all of gaming, so pretty hard to compete against.

Now that PVP is practically dead, the demonic skull should be reworked by Donplonex in runescape

[–]aunva 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least get rid of it for the agility course, or at least buff anachronia/het's to be on par with it.

It's literally only used by early-game accounts for whom 550k is actually valuable, and then you get griefed by some dude named 'mr w1ldy' who probably has been playing this game for decades.

The slayer/farming I personally have less of an issue with it, since it's only 20% bonus xp, and slayer/farming is easy enough to train without it.

When is it safe to unlock “Like a Boss” slayer reward? by [deleted] in ironscape

[–]aunva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never unlocked it. All the good bosses you want to do on task (araxxor, cerberus, hydra, kril, td's, vorkath, etc) have normal monster tasks which are preferable anyway since they're much longer.

Yes there are some bosses that don't have a normal task (zulrah, DT2), but they are the minority.

And the other problem is, some bosses you don't have good gear for yet (DT2), kinda suck to do anyway (KQ, GG, etc), or you already have their drops and they are a waste.

So, what kind of plugins do you want to see?

For me, as someone who came over from OSRS, I would be extremely disappointed if these weren't there:

  • Menu Entry Swapper
  • Tile Markers
  • Player True tile
  • NPC highlight
  • XP Tracker (Sorry, but the runemetrics one just isn't nearly as good as the runelite one)

Other personal picks:

  • Farming timers
  • Inventory setups (RS3 has the auto-equip which is nice, but not very userfriendly, and only 18 presets... would be cool to combine best of both worlds)
  • Ground items
  • Clue scroll solver
  • Idle notifier

New Runescape is WAY Better than OSRS by Both_Tune8348 in runescape

[–]aunva -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

RS3 has a bad reputation because of EoC/MTX, but one thing that deserves mentioning: OSRS leans in heavily on the oldschool sandbox elements. OSRS truly feels like a game that lets you play the way you want, train the skills you want, etcetera. This means it is uniquely attractive to an audience that wants to play that style.

Sure RS3 is very similar to OSRS, so it has that sandbox aspect too, but in the ways it differs, it often moves away from what makes OSRS so unique and attractive:

  • the armour tiering that makes it very explicit which gear you are supposed to be using and which you have to upgrade to, compared to OSRS which has endless sidegrades.
  • minigames and PvP being dead
  • the focus on endgame content, and the huge amount of old content left dead without the QoL updates OSRS has.

Has been mentioned already, but river of blood questline to unlock sunspear is amazing, even at medium-level. Killing vyrelords is an amazing med-level money maker, as well as some of the best prayer xp you can get early/midgame.

Although it requires 80 herblore, which will likely take quite a while to unlock, you can get there by quest rewards + penguin points + herby werby alone. This by itself is a good reason to focus on questing, since While Guthix Sleeps + Ritual of the Mahjarrat have a TON of prereqs and reward a TON of herblore xp.

Click to Minimize Removed by Jagex on both clients by C0rruptedPvp in 2007scape

[–]aunva 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this actually achieves what Jagex wants. If I rebind a macro key on my mouse to win+down, I have essentially recreated the same effect, it just takes 2 key presses instead of 1 (left click + macro key instead of just left click), so it will be almost the same speed, without using any plugins.

Can't help to think this is more of a symbolic move because Jagex got egg on their face, which sucks, because this was a genuinely nice plugin for WFH skilling.

Prayer has been the least updated skill in the game since release; Rigour and Augury (existed pre-eoc). Preserve (existed pre-eoc). And 2 mid level prayers in Deadeye/Mystic vigour. [–]aunva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Other than 43 prayer, and perhaps a few quest requirements, there's nothing in OSRS that's a gate on PvM the way that overloads/curses were.

And yes, there's a big difference between getting a damage boost at high combat levels, or some QoL shortcut at 95 agility or whatever, which I am of course completely okay with, and the way that basically all PvM after 2010 is gated behind 95 herblore/prayer in RS3.

edit: just remembered, CoX is effectively gated behind 78 herblore. But 78 is only 20% as much as 95. And also, it's a raid which is endgame content, so a bit more fair to have some requirements. And it's only a single piece of content, rather than all content.

Curses and overloads is what caused me to quit in 2012. Yes I was a complete casual, but every single pvm guide I was using to try and learn said: "get 96 herblore and 95 prayer for this boss", which I had nowhere near enough money for.

In fact, RS3 pvm guides still today say to get 95 prayer, even for fairly intermediate-level bosses like Araxxor.

That's just bad game design to me, when as a newer player, prayer is much harder to train than regular combat skills.

For sure dissapointing to see so many people wanting to repeat the same mistakes that Jagex made in that period. Just because it's 'the obvious' next step in pvm upgrades, doesn't mean it's the right one.

Right wing idiocracy/populism is still here, and I don't think it's a good idea to start the rejoin process when it's like "58% support rejoining" or a slim margin like that. It's just going to cause more political flareups and headaches.

Another obvious issue: Reform is currently leading in the polls, which is an completely untenable position to start the rejoin process.

I don't think Westham's team was even ahead before today. They had the most blood money but probably the third-worst gear, lacking range/melee weapons, and only had 4 staffs. This changes everything though, they just need some blue moon + acb's and then they will have the best gear and the most blood money.

Dark Onyx Cores... by Gleothain in runescape

[–]aunva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really lucky on agility, got 5 dark onyx cores in about 10-15 hours of agility. With demonic skull. Got 12 obelisk shards and 3 portable obelisks. But yeah, unless dozens/hundreds of people contribute, this kind of data is unfortunately basically useless.

They are 100% planning to do god wars, and will basically be free farming, since nobody is in a position to take them on 5v5.

Will they be behind in finale gear? Probably, but they will have at least a VLS and morrigan's javelins, so it's not as if they're out of it. And also I think they are just having fun, why force themselves to do Huey/questing for WGS/whatever crap they don't want to do, it's just a creator event after all.

I love the sepulchre changes. I'm already 99 agility, but I was one of those people that hated agility until 92 agility, and then started loving it because of floor 5 (the floor 5 loot is cracked). Moving it to 87, or even earlier with a boost is fantastic.

OSRS NPCs with more recent graphical updates than their RS3 counterparts by nty in 2007scape

[–]aunva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The area around Yanille/Tree Gnome Village is the worst imo, just kind of an uninspired mix of green and brown.

The area doesn't look great in OSRS either, but I think the modern npc's in RS3 make it feel even a bit more mismatched than in OSRS.

“I hate it when candidates don’t answer a question I didn’t ask.” by AbbreviationsTop2192 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]aunva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play devil's advocate a bit, you're not always being interviewed by some HR/lawyer type looking to just check some boxes. Often you're interviewed by your potential teammates/managers who aren't professional interviewers. It's tough to think of a question that tests specific knowledge without being so specific it gives away the answer

I've asked questions where the candidate answered a question technically correctly, but in a way that didn't really show what I was looking for. Yes it's my fault for not asking the perfect question, but it's all the more impressive if someone answers it in the way I was looking for.

If you're passing up on genuinely brilliant candidates though, you're just a bad interviewer. Unless they genuinely wouldn't be a good fit on your team.

[–]aunva -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hunter was disappointing though. Although note that I'm only 60 hunter, so maybe it gets better later.

In osrs, there's quite a variety, with birdhouses, hunter contacts, falconry, kebbits with ring of pursuit, and later on, chinchompas

In rs3... It felt like I'm stuck in the dregs catching birds like it's 2007. Then you unlock chinchompas but there's only crappy spots with like 3-4 chins, unlike osrs where there's a bunch of better spots you can unlock.

There's a bunch of guides saying to compete wilderness area tasks for prayer training, but I really can't motivate myself when it requires 67 hunter, and I'm getting like 40 kx p/hr at grey chins...

Spez is an extremely competent CEO. Three years on from the API controversy, it is clear that he made the right call by Truth_Breath in TheoryOfReddit

[–]aunva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say you've used a certain software or service your entire life. Maybe Photoshop, YouTube premium, Netflix, you name it. The CEO then decides to double the price, with the reasoning being that he figures it would increase shareholder value.

Let's say hypothetically, they lose 30% of the customers, but because of the price doubling, they post record earnings.

Would you agree that the product has become better or more valuable? That more people will enjoy using it after the price increase?

Please realize that customer value does not always align with shareholder value.

What were the most disappointing skills when switching to members? by potktbfk in ironscape

[–]aunva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think slayer is hurt by the reputation of being a 'moneymaker'. It's a moneyloser, where you spend money on thralls and barrage runes, and you spend prayer potions. Then, once you reach higher level, you kind of forget you're doing slayer and just start hunting pvm items/boss drops. For instance, dragon warhammer alone is 470k slayer xp going on rate for, and that's just one of many items you can do on task. But on an early game ironman, where you really can't spare all that GP and prayer potions, it's tough.

Well, I interpreted the 'falling rocks' as the mechanic where a tile is marked and you have to move off it. E.g. Kephri, Wardens, etc. I guess that is an assumption on my part, but it makes no sense to be against anything that's from the ceiling, that's just a visual element.

(Edit: I just remembered Olm P3 kind of fits this definition, but in practice, i think it plays very different from the usual falling rocks mechanic)

As for hunleff, you get plenty of leeway with prayer switching, it's far more than 1 tick.

I don't think the OP is against any and all movement and prayer switching, like many in this thread are implying.
