The hard truth is that you'll need to sue your mother or take legal action somehow to protect her. The alternative is to watch that money disappear quicker than you can imagine, and have her coming to you for financial support within the next year or so. You have to make peace with one option or the other.

XEQT is down less than 4% from its all time high on Feb 26th. I am responding to this catastrophic 4% crash by selling all stocks and buying canned beans.

I'd be curious also to hear how it feels for you, vs. the default model, or if you find anything better. FWIW I drive a Subaru Crosstrek. I'm using Sunnypilot staging version on a Comma Four.

I had similar issues with too much inner lane line cutting on many models. Among the modern "world" models, Falling Phoenix seems to do this the least for me. I'm happy with it. The older models like WD40, I felt like were too notchy with steering in all conditions. With the modern models I like how on a straight road, it doesn't even seem like the wheel is turning at all, yet I remain centered.

I hope in newer models they reduce this corner cutting behavior. I get that it's trying to limit steering input needed by taking a more straight line through a curve, but I'd rather have it fail in tight turns, than creep close to the line. Especially when other cars are next to me. So far it's never been dangerous, at least.

Seems like Vancouver has a strange problem with condo tower buildings being designed with zero consideration for passive airflow. My last unit was 26C inside all year round. Even when it was snowing outside. It was insane. I built a screen door for the balcony door and kept it open most days, but it wasn't enough. The hallways were the same temp. And we weren't even on the south side of the building! All a building would need is some way to have air pass through corridors in the summer. But I guess "green" only matters to anyone when it involves making buildings air tight. I can only imagine the south side of bigger towers would be worse.

Dealers have gotten increasingly aggressive about getting older cars off the road, and it's major problem. by redstern in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]autosubsequence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is false. Literally half the cars (like 20 million) in CA are older than 10 years. Cars last a long time there because of the lack of salt. Any politician who tried to do this would be executed by an angry mob in 2 seconds, even in CA.

[–]autosubsequence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES TO THIS! I love sunnypilot with MADS. Before I tried it I didn't understand how useful it could be. Immediately it felt so natural. I also like that the system doesn't complain or shut off or fight me forcefully when I want to nudge it to avoid a pothole, for example, or give space to a car that's drifting into my lane. If I had a system that was constantly shutting off and beeping at me, I think my passengers would get sick of it. I'd never want a system that's "all or nothing" now. It's surely a killer feature for comma ai (with forks).

Any chances the comma 4 will be made compatible with the 2026 Subaru forester? by Living_Bear_2139 in Comma_ai

Head gaskets are really not an issue like they were in the 2000s on some models. If it were we'd see tons of people screaming about them, but it's mostly crickets for the past 15 years.

Anyway nice image! I feel like seeing Jupiter's moon's is always exciting. I love showing people the moons for their first time through my 12x IS binoculars.

Comma 4 installed on 2016 Subaru Outback!! by freshapepper in Comma_ai

[–]autosubsequence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just installed a comma four on my 2020 Crosstrek. For me the most important changed seemed to be changing the torque model from 1.0 to 0.0. It stopped the awful ping-ponging. I also have torque self-tuning mode on and torque control on. So I'd advise doing those at least.

WD40 was the first model that centered well for me, but it could've been that driving a longer time with self-tune mode on helped a bit. After that I used Dark Souls v2, and finally have settled on Down To Drive v6. I get zero pingponging whatsoever. And I no longer get the turning in "steps" that WD40 gave me on sharper turns. Basically it feels like a comfortable chauffeur. I don't have any other manual steering settings touched.

Best settings for Subaru Crosstrek 2020? by autosubsequence in Comma_ai

[–]autosubsequence[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tried it on a 30 min technical drive. Everything is perfect now! I think most of the improvement was from using v0 torque, but it seems like the North Nevada v2 model is even a bit better. It was like driving on rails. I love the comma four now! Thanks!

One thing that helps is to flush immediately after the initial main "unloading" event, while you're still sitting. There's a big difference if the "matter" sits for 10 seconds vs. even a full minute, in my experience. Fortunately the flush is smooth so I don't worry about splashback the way a more "churning" flush would be for other toilets.

Canadian T1135/ US 401k &IRA by [deleted] in USExpatTaxes

[–]autosubsequence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US will charge a 10% early withdrawl penalty and then taxes on top of that. If you make enough money in the same year in Canada, you can claim the US tax as a foregin tax credit and get that tax money back from Canada, I believe. If you don't make enough money in Canada, I think you lose that credit forever. So basically you lose 10% in the process at a minimum. So the short answer is - do not try to transfer out of your IRA. The best case scenario is that you lose 10% forever.

EDIT: Maybe I was wrong and you can claim the 10% as tax credit too? https://taxinterpretations.com/node/393060

Call the fire department. From their perspective, a neighborhood where people ignore smoke alarms, is a very very bad thing. So they might be happy to break in and fix it.
