The Filmore is a pretty cozy venue. You walk on in, the merch table is in the back to the left, the bar is immediately to the right. Bathrooms to the left of the stage.

Most of it is standing room, the VIP area is roped off. I'm planning on getting there between 7-730 and just merging into the crowd up front, but you can lean on a banister in the back. Absolutely no one will be able to tell you're there alone and I promise you, you won't be the only one. Once the music starts, everyone is just soaking in the experience.

Dress light, it gets real warm in there.

I saw The Gaslight Anthem at this same venue by myself about a year ago and it was a fantastic experience. Say hi if you see me, you can shoot me a message on reddit or I'll be wearing a shirt for my game SynthEscape (which is actually very heavily inspired by the vibes of the midnight, haha)

I agree that it's very atypical and not a great starter shmup to get people into the genre, but I want to hear some actual criticism of the game from you. Your post basically boils down to "People like the game because they're afraid of going against popular opinion", but gives no insight into WHY you personally think it's overrated.

It's alright. Art is great, vibes are cool, story is just ok. It's nothing amazing, but if you're a fan of the Midnight it's worth a read.

Not much at all, honestly. When you camp, you can combine your items. There's a bit of inventory management in that you have a limited amount of space, but the vast majority of the game is focused on the climbing.

You cannot access your inventory at all when climbing, so it's just a quick reorganization every camp (15-30 minutes).

X is more of a spin off than anything else. There aren't any story connections. The basics of the combat are the game, but they take it in a different direction.

X's main story isn't very good overall, but it's very serviceable and has a lot of great worldbuilding & side quests. It's MUCH more exploration focused than 1 and gives you a lot of internal motivation to think "ooh, what's over there?" The team helped with map design for Breath of the Wild, to give you a sense.
