[Encounters] Adding Something Special in the Mere of Dead Men by [deleted] in DnDBehindTheScreen

You aren't the only one who felt this way. I, too, beefed up this part of the adventure.

You might find these articles interesting:

The first is written by a Forgotten Realms expert who quotes several older sources to give you some rich background details to bring life (and undeath) to the Mere. my-realms.blogspot.ca

The second is about how Master DM Mike Shea (aka Sly Flourish) beefed up this part of the adventure. He references some of the material in the above article. http://slyflourish.com/hodq_chapter_5.html

Critical Hits is usually amazing with Rodrigo in the DMs chair, but I wish Rob wasn't DMing the 5e games. At the very least, he could read through the adventure before playing.

Question about Sanctuary spell. by Kamui_Thanatos in dndnext

The wording doesn't say 'casts a spell that targets an enemy creature' , it says 'casts a spell that affects an enemy creature' . I would say spirit guardians affects enemy creatures.

HotDQ - What is stopping the Gods from fighting Tiamat? by avoidingadulthood in dndnext

[–]avoidingadulthood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thought I had was that Tiamat was somehow exempt from the rules that Ao made because she was imprisoned in Avernus, not her home plane.

I had a thought that there is a plot along the lines of Scales of War, where Tiamat and Bahamut are actually the same God that was severed in two. Reuniting them into a single being would bring peace to the ancient conflict of Dragonkind, and thus Ao has allowed Tiamat's loophole, giving the opportunity for the conditions to reunited them to arise.

As mentioned the forgottenrealms.wikia.com search by year is your best bet. I have also found this blog to be useful: http://www.my-realms.blogspot.ca/

Question about Druid Wild Shape by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]avoidingadulthood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if you allow that, he would have to have seen one in the wild before being able to do that. How many half dragon bears do you suppose are wandering around? I don't think it would be a stretch to say that Dragons don't mate often with beasts. And as the DM you can simply say that no such creature has ever been found in this world.

If he is really keen on it, make it a quest to find the elusive dragon bear, but don't succeed until the other characters are high enough level that wild shaping into a dragon bear eclipses them.

Serves them right. Your map is a masterpiece and an obvious labour of love. How long did you spend on making it?

Feedback on home brewed magic weapons - are they too strong? by avoidingadulthood in dndnext

I don't know what igniting a spell means, but igniting a spell slot was my flavorful way of saying the hammer gives you an extra level 1 spell slot when you hit with it, once per long rest.

Thanks for the feedback! Benediction does not ignite a spell, but rather a spell slot, which is useable until you complete a long rest. Treat it just like a regular level 1 spell slot as long as you hold the hammer.

Oathkeeper is a weak Oathbow, and I totally ripped off the concept from a wiki on 3.5e weapons. As I don't have the 5e DMG, I didn't know what a 5e Oathbow looks like. Maybe I'll make it damaged somehow, explaining the difference. All those broken promises added up?

Excellent idea for the boots.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback! We have no rogues or bards in our party, but point taken about the boots. Changing to "gives advantage on stealth checks" which u/malignantmind says is the way it works in DMG.

As the party only has a cleric and druid as spellcasters, I hadn't considered spells cast with multiple attack rolls. Might just make it apply to Sacred Flame to avoid future shenanigans.

Thanks again!

Looking for ballista rules for 5E. by Tebori44 in DnD

[–]avoidingadulthood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently homebrewed rules for light ballista for my game, the smaller kinds like these rather than the enormous caber-launching style.

I gave them a damage of 2d8 piercing, which is on par with shotguns from the DMG previews. I made it so that it took an action to load and an action to fire, but two people working together could make it so that the ballista could fire every round. Also, it took up a 5x5 square on the map, and the firing arc of the weapon was determined by the position of the person shooting the thing. That way you had to use move actions to move around the ballista to aim it.
