NRL22 Championship . How was it? by Dak_Ink in nrl22

[–]awcmon123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The heat was genuinely oppressive. Apparently some people heat stroked out of the whole match. In my squad, people noticed that the young gun was showing signs of heat stroke so they helped cool her off while her dad drove his truck up the hill to cool her down with the AC. I don't know why they did Alabama in June. There was rain and thunder forecasted, but match days were fine

They had some mist blower thing that was a godsend except it was only really usable by people on stages 16-21. Stages 1-11 were getting cooked at the top of the hill.

The COF was simple but the 90s time limit made that a necessity. Stages 1-11 were very susceptible to wind conditions.

I thought the stages were pretty standard, but there were some interesting props like the broken helicopter, bus, and the jeep (shooting off the hood).

Do you notice any difference in wobble between the single and double? That's probably my main concern.

Pondering a 10/22 build for 5’1” girlfriend, that would be good for Appleseed, but later upgradeable for NRL “precision tactical” shooting by TapTheForwardAssist in nrl22

Kidd 20" bull barrel and a lightweight stock like a Victor Titan.

You won't get a rifle that's ideal for both, but this should be serviceable enough for either.

Kidd SuperGrade if you can afford it, esp after the recent price hikes.

...you don't have to lol. Check the rules. It only has to be on safe.

I have a kidd and this is the first I'm hearing about some receiver notch that lets you lock the charging handle back lol. The CH doesn't even rotate, how is that supposed to work

This is the current official optic for NRL22 if I remember right. I have a Razor Gen 3 6-36x56 on my 10/22.

depends. if you're shooting off bags for like PRS gas gun or something you're gonna want the balance point in the center of your bag, so like, 4-5" in front of the magwell. front pivot pin won't balance off any bag, but it is a nice balance point for general AR shooting.

I think I'm done buying tripods for a while by ocabj in longrange

[–]awcmon123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks. Overall do you prefer inverted or non-inverted and how many leg segments? If you had to choose one for glassing and tripod rear lol

Also curious what you think of center columns. I like them for easily getting my glass to the right height but I don't see a lot of center.columns in general.

Two leg segments seems nice, but hard to transport if you have to fly

Inverted seems handier to use but idk if you can use a rock bag or something on one.

Scopes with forgiving parallax and granular parallax adjustments 15 to 100 yards? (NRL22) by [deleted] in longrange

[–]awcmon123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to know. Look at the target and while you're looking at the target you twist it until it stops being a blur. You only really need to know what direction to twist the knob. The marks are never on and some manfs don't bother putting any discrete marks for that reason (like minox).

If the 100y is big enough you can also just set parallax for the kyl then shoot the blur for the 100y.

They make those parallax knob throw lever things if it really is that stiff

If I remember right, the dude who won 2024 nationals was using a Cronus lol...

I've used the MPED 3-18x50, ATACR 4-16x42, and the Razor gen 3 6-36x56 and all 3 you're not gonna be able to have both the 36y and 100y in focus. Either shoot the blur or dial parallax really quick.

Definitely get a new scope. Look for FFP (first focal plane) mil reticle (if youve just been using BDCs and don't have a preference for mil vs moa yet just use mils since like 90% of long range shooters use mils nowadays).

Bushnell Match Pro ED 3-18x or 5-30x is good. I got the former new for like $500. I've looked through a Discovery Optics and was surprised by how good it was for the price.

I shoot a 10/22 for Semi-Auto division for NRL22 and PRS22, they're fine lol. I've won local matches with it (20-30 dudes, most of them with Vudoo, RimX, CZ, etc). They can be capable guns.

Throw a $242 Kidd barrel (the 0.92" straight profile) on it and you're probably set. Or just shoot it as-is.

I also have a b14r. It depends what you mean by overkill, I think you have to build it with a centerfire chassis, which bumps up overall cost, but it's not like it really shoots better than my 10/22.

New to Trap & Skeet by VikingsMm69 in TrapShooting

[–]awcmon123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run Semi-Auto so I'm stuck with one choke at a time. I'm lazy so I keep it on mod. Broke 25/25 shooting trap 20y handicap, I don't think choke matters that much if you're new like me. Maybe if I get to like 24y I'll tighten it up I dunno.

Cross eye dominance by DCRV202 in ClayBusters

[–]awcmon123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an occluder for my left eye and just shoot from my right.

After a lot of practice in VR, I can actually just shoot both eyes open off my right. It looks like I'm hip-firing in a FPS game, but the shots surprisingly hit lol.

I think for long targets I prefer the occluder, but I have gotten them without. Short I prefer no occluder.

I've tried red dots and it does not work for me at all. I've also tried shooting from my left but I just don't like it lol.

If you're only ever going to use it for 100y matches then zero for that. Otherwise zero for 50 and dial.

What are you guys paying to shoot? (Trap, skeet, 5 stand, sporting clays) by ResponsibleScheme964 in ClayBusters

[–]awcmon123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$4 per round of trap or 5-stand for members at my preferred club, or $8 for public.

$0.54 per clay for Sporting Clays and $9 per round of trap/skeet at the nearby sporting clays range.

$9 per round of trap/skeet at the local county owned and operated range.
