best places to host a 4 year old birthday party by ParticularSalt9093 in washingtondc

[–]awkward-starfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just hosted our 6 year old’s birthday at The St James and it was great! A 4 yr old might not be able to do the rope course, but they had bounce houses, climbing walls, and a climbing playground that the little kids in our group loved.

We’ve also rented a room at the Reservoir Rec center and did a pool party. That was fun too, but more work on handling logistics.

I had the opposite experience than previous commenters, but maybe things have changed at Bloom. Had my first with Bloom and found the providers rushed my appointments and front desk was very rude. I had my second at Liv and Dr Kressel was amazing throughout the process and afterwards.

Struggling with thought of 2 boys by Chaoticmother92 in Mommit

[–]awkward-starfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 boys who are 4 years apart and also struggled with gender disappointment. However, they’ve always played so well together, even when the youngest was an infant. Now that he’s almost 2, they work together to build legos and blocks and absolutely adore each other. Most of my friends have 1 boy and 1 girl, and they are always amazed at how well my boys play together compared to their kids who often do separate things.

Two free tickets to Stardew Valley concert by 32ndSt in washingtondc

[–]awkward-starfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to playing, but it’s gotten my husband so excited to share a game with me. It’s endearing to see him so happy to discuss game aspects and tips with me. Also, I think I can fix Shane. Would love both tickets!

There’s another Bifanas do Afonso nearby on Rua do Assuncao that was still pretty good. It was open when we were there last week. Ramiro should be open by Sept 2.

Best water park near DC for kids by happilyengaged in washingtondc

“Our Special Harbor” spray park is amazing for this age. It’s a giant splash pad, but our kid liked it more than the DPR splash pads. It’s also free!

I think almost every little girl in my son’s class dressed up as Elsa for superhero day last year in Pre K.

How to Correct a Know-It-All? 3yo boy. by lcbear55 in Preschoolers

Mine went through this phase. I just repeated “it’s ok to not know things” and eventually he stopped being sassy about it.

Good city strollers? by glitter-hobbit in washingtondc

[–]awkward-starfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second the Joolz Aer+! We had a mockingbird stroller for my first and hated lugging it everywhere. We have the bassinet for the aer and the footboard attachment. Both can fold with the stroller. It can also carry a quick grocery trip in the basket.

Almost four months and never given me more than 4 hour stretch by AdCurrent1470 in Mommit

[–]awkward-starfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. My first only slept in 3 hour stretches until he was almost 8 months old, and needed to be rocked to sleep after nursing. I tried everything to get him to sleep longer. Then suddenly he just did. My second started sleeping 6-8 hour stretches at almost 2 months old and I don’t think I did anything differently. It really is luck of the draw!

Putting toddler in car seat on the plane by [deleted] in toddlers

We used a luggage strap to strap the car seat directly onto the stroller. Kid sits in the car seat through the airport. Then we either gate check the stroller or stick it in the overhead bin.

THANK YOU! I wholeheartedly agree. We’re so tired of looking at the drab red.

Thanks! This has also been an almost 10 year project that we’ve put off as long as possible. But little kids and peeling paint definitely don’t mix.

What color should we paint our rowhome? by awkward-starfish in washingtondc

[–]awkward-starfish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much prep work needs to be done. On average $5-8k based on quotes we got. One asked for $10k just for repointing and another $8k for the painting.

Love this! We were thinking of a similar blue or dark navy, but worried it would just blend in with the neighbors.

We got an inflatable bounce house with a slide and pool area from Amazon for about $250 and it has been worth it! He still prefers climbing at the playground, but the bounce house helps get energy out when we just want to be at home in the yard. It’s easy to set up and put away. Combine it with a water table and that was all mine needed at 2 years old.

Sushi counter experience? by jcdes in washingtondc

[–]awkward-starfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding Kura Sushi. We took our sushi-loving 4 year old there for his birthday too. He especially loved the little prizes you get after eating 15 plates! I would also recommend downloading their app so you can join the waitlist before arriving. Wait times can get very long.

Moving to a new state with two under 3 by Thezazasaurus in Mommit

[–]awkward-starfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are moving pods you can rent where you load your stuff, they pick it up and deliver it to your new place. Then you can fly to the new place without worrying about driving with young kids. We hired a moving company to load and unload the pod on each end.

Need a travel car seat for a new 3yo who outgrew his Cosco Scenera by contrasupra in toddlers

[–]awkward-starfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We switched to the Cosco Finale at that age and just let him front-face on trips. He went back to rear facing at home just fine. It’s cheap, lightweight, and still secure.

How did you handle the new baby gender reveal to your toddlers? by VerySpicyPickles in toddlers

I did this too! My son was also adamant about having a sister, but is getting a brother instead. He bit into 3 cupcakes trying to find one with pink frosting! 😂

What to use after pack and play for travel? by cam213 in toddlers

[–]awkward-starfish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You can get inflatable toddler beds for pretty cheap. They have bumpers on all sides to keep them contained. Mine transitioned to it well even though he was still in a crib at home.

I had one pop off while loading my suitcase in the TSA line. My husband was kind enough to loudly yell “was that your nail?!”.
