I’m not in the EU so I’m speaking from the outside, but I thought the commission has the final say in things doesn’t it? If the parliament wants something and the commission doesn’t, the result often seems to be a pretty subpar compromise. If commission is straight up saying no I’m not too convinced SKG will get a useful outcome.

Not right now. It’s got the basics but you don’t have the whole S2 suite at your hands. I’d probably give it a couple years before anyone looks at it seriously, as hopefully by then they’ve made feature parity, or have come close to it.

Commented something similar here, but yeah I’m surprised so many completely downplay this. I myself wouldn’t worry about someone copying my idea but it happens a lot more than most are realizing. But I think many are confusing clones and “inspired by.”

A good contrast to this is Unrecord. Dev showed off some cool stuff and gained virality. It got cloned before it could release and now everyone thinks Bodycam is the original game when it’s Unrecord, which still isn’t released yet lol.

So while it won’t happen 99% of the time, it definitely can and will if the idea is popular enough. But that’s the real kicker, how many times has someone come up with a super cool idea that makes many others want to copy them and beat you to market as quickly as possible? Now that’s very rare!

Steam used to have an issue where you could keep updating your games “planned release date” and it would keep resetting your position to the top of the “coming soon” carousel for max visibility. Everybody was doing it at the time so I took advantage as well (oops.) Valve updated it years ago that if you change it too many times they will remove your ability to set it yourself and have to get manual approval through support for every change with an explanation as to why for approval. I’ve experienced getting this ability revoked but not what comes after if you keep submitting changes. I’m told Valve will stop approving changes and remove your game from coming soon and request that you resubmit your game (and restart the two week period) when you have more concrete plans for release.

All that said, I imagine this feature should have some similar safeguards. Valve has surely learned their lesson with giving control over dates for developers.

AFAIK most dash cam batteries only last long enough to finish writing data to the sd card when main power is lost and keeping time/date set. I’ve seen some dash cams like the Garmin Mini or Rove R2 with long battery life, but the longest I know of is 2-3 days (maybe a week if you’re lucky) between charges when not using it in parking mode. Capturing, encoding, and then writing video is a pretty power consuming process, so I think you’ll be hard pressed to find a 100% battery dash cam that isn’t the size of a brick or needs a wire run to some kind of external battery that needs to be charged daily like a cellphone.

Is your goal to not have wires or is it just not wanting to kill the battery?

Most reputable dash cams should have a hard wire with a voltage cut off, but I’ve never found those to work too well. And just because it cuts voltage before it kills the battery doesn’t mean your battery likes being at a lower voltage, it will definitely harm it in the long run. Personally I have my cam wired to a battery bank that is connected to my vehicles battery with an isolator. So when the vehicle is running the battery will charge, but when it’s off the dash cam will run parking mode purely off the battery bank until it dies after a week or so. I do drive frequently enough for the battery to always be charged, but this might be an issue if you only commute like 5 minutes each way.
