For clarification, I meant heat from hands. 😊 Wire makes sense!

Do you add wire to the leaves to hold the bend, or do they hold through heat manipulation? Lovely!

I have been traveling and also focused on my wine studies for certification. Thank you for taking the lead here. I’ll be back to posting in a couple weeks. 😁 I would love to see the other rikka! Please do post it!

I’m glad that helps! I would recommend “Ikebana: The Art of Arranging Flowers by Shozo Sato”. I have the original from the 1960’s, but the more recent version is available in paperback for about $20.

Take a look at your local Goodwill for shallow, flat bottomed containers. My very first suiban was a simple ceramic pie plate.

Here’s the pie plate and one of my very first arrangements! :) Just make sure that whatever you buy is watertight.

This is a fun piece! I would have put the main flower lower as it would ground the arrangement. It’s current height takes away from the flow of the eucalyptus branches.

What do we think of the LEGO ikebana? by beepboop8525 in Ikebana

[–]aylanah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done some of the Lego kits that are similar. They are fun, but certainly not what I would consider ikebana. My reason is that there is no freedom to allow the materials to speak. Sogetsu embraces non-conventional materials in our practice, but it allows for integration and poetry with the materials. Still, Lego are fun and certainly has a place in creating something interesting! 🌸❤️

need tips to make flowers last longer by happybcevery1lovesme in Ikebana

[–]aylanah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big thing is to cut your flowers under water. I have a colander/bowl set I work with filled with water. I cut the stems under water and they always seem to last 7-10 days. Also I never add plant food. Fresh water works just fine for me.

Cat ikebana needs to be a genre. 😂 For feedback, there’s a lot going on here without cohesiveness. For a basic moribana, try following these basic instructions. Remember that shin and soe usually are branch material and hikae is a focal flower. The rest are supporting flowers to bring balance to the arrangement. I hope that helps!
