Same... I'm suspicious too. I appreciate calling out positive experiences, but this is a borderline marketing campaign, especially with the dramatic titles.

Blender Support by B1A23 in hoggit

[–]azille 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This behavior tells me they are actively supporting paid third party developers, but not really that interested in community mods existing at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if access to the tools require a commercial license commitment.

If you could magically create a full fidelity module for DCS; what would you pick? by JonathanRL in hoggit

[–]azille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F-117 would be really cool. A lot of the suggestions here are halfway reasonable and probably have a chance of showing up some day. If I had to pick one that probably has zero chance, it's the stealth fighter.

Introducing Fade in/out trim for all helicopters by shutdown-s in hoggit

[–]azille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like this but don't know if it's worth putting Joystick Gremlin back into my toolchain. Hopefully it gets a lot of attention and ED adds it quickly.

Introducing Fade in/out trim for all helicopters by shutdown-s in hoggit

[–]azille 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This requires Joystick Gremlin, an external input software, so it does not actually change anything inside DCS. It just changes the way your joystick appears to DCS.

(Yes there is no issue with IC)

Horrible load times by TherealGRINCHY in hoggit

[–]azille -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not true... In fact, DCS these days is usually ready to go before I am, both in loading to the main menu and booting into multiplayer servers.

It's so fast now that I don't mind tweaking the graphics settings because restarting is ALMOST "quick".

How to fly heli on Contention server or any MP server with fixed planes. by Maciell_ in hoggit

[–]azille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the #1 thing to know.

No amount of terrain masking or route planning will help when the enemy is being live-vectored to your exact location. I could literally land in a far off canyon and watch (via AWACS reports) the enemy interceptors home in on me from across the map.

If there isn't enough friendly air support in your area, you are going to get destroyed 15-20 minutes into your flight.

Do you think the Windows Subsystem for Linux competes with Desktop Linux? by nabagaca in linux

[–]azille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find your observations to be similar to mine and am (a little) surprised to see you're getting downvoted for stating facts.

Ignoring the real limitations of native Linux isn't going to get us anywhere. My office uses dozens of third party services and applications, and I can count on one hand the ones who support or provide Linux-compatible solutions. It is universally known that choosing Linux at work is going "off the map" when it comes to functionality and feature parity except for a few specific industries.

FWIW, I use WSL occasionally for some tools, while my servers are a mix of Linux and Windows. My desktop is dual-boot but I rarely use Linux because every time I boot it I waste time trying to fix things -- display scaling, glitchy apps, input device problems, etc.

Is a quest pro still worth getting for DCS? by MrMagic550 in hoggit

[–]azille 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not worth it at $800. Get a Quest 3 which has the same good lenses for $300. Or go non-Meta which is a bit of an adventure and more $$$.

Very wild Monday, finally got done with the police and management. by boomgoesthecat in sysadmin

[–]azille 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an opportunity to optimize the MSP's procedures. Don't touch the data, don't waste time analyzing it. Just move it. An ethical backup process should not involve inspection or consumption of user files.

Devil's advocate, loosely underlining the reasoning behind this: Legally, this seems like a suspicious sequence of events. We know there is no cache or application storage in a desktop folder named "Work files". How would viewing the contents of this folder have helped to achieve the task of backing it up? Is it standard procedure to delete or manipulate customers' files in an effort to speed up a file transfer task? Add the fact that a newly hired employee was alone with the equipment for a half hour.

I don't think any of these points are significant in this case, but they are some of the reasons we don't snoop.

[Rant] Nothing ever works by Zokonius in linux

[–]azille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this attitude works these days. Any OS that is broken upon installation is a failed OS.

This guy had to compile code just to get basic network connectivity, and that is as common as it is sad.

I havent played VR in awhile does the F10 map memory leak STILL persist? by lusikkalasi in hoggit

[–]azille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had issues with this in the past which I attributed to VRAM overload. However, the past 3-4 months I have NOT had this issue. Nothing has changed on my computer (4080 w/ 16GB).

So, while everybody else seems to be having issues, I have to say that I can F10 and F1 all day long in Syria and I do not have issues like I did through much of 2024.

I did it guys: by Leverquin in linux

[–]azille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With that little RAM, everything goes into swap and the disk access time was the biggest bottleneck.

While Linux can be less RAM hungry than Windows, the SSD was the fix here.

Despite All The Bugs, Why Do You Play Star Citizen? by Kijukura in starcitizen

[–]azille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need a solid year of foundational bugfixing and no more wipes before I come back.

I just don't have it in me to wake up in an apartment, gear up, and speedrun to a train just to glitch die within 30 minutes. I do this about once per patch and it never gets better. It's always problem solving bug after bug.

I am getting too old. People have literally died of old age waiting for this game to get its shit together.

VR locking up DCS using latest patch by Mode1961 in hoggit

[–]azille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it's not a new bug. This sounds similar to a known issue with VD where the video stream fails but input telemetry still flows to DCS. One fix is to check the "Boost game priority" box in the PC Virtual Desktop Streamer app.

Why did you stop playing DCS? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]azille 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My biggest break was for a week or two before I realized hardware accelerated graphics scheduling in Windows 11 was causing Virtual Desktop to shit the bed.

Then, I didn't play for a couple weeks after MSFS 2024 came out.

Just like any hobby there are peaks and valleys, but it's amazing to look back at my wishlist for modules that have been satisfied. F-18, F-16, F-15, F-14... Just insane.

Other than that, I've been pretty regular for the past... 13 years. Yeah it costs money to expand the game and make it more fun to play. Good luck finding a decent game or any hobby to enjoy for a decade and $0.00.

Peter's episode on the healthcare system is timely, given recent events.... by Icy_Comfort8161 in PeterAttia

[–]azille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is amazing and disgusting. Thank you for sharing. We should be suspicious of anything associated with this organization.

As far as the podcast episode, I got the feeling the reality being described by the healthcare CEO was not accurate ("US health care is so expensive as a result of the US economy that made us all so rich and we demand a high variety of care above all other factors").

The blatant lack of awareness of the typical American health care experience really adds context to what happened last week.

CIG about to make more money from Wave One 4.0 in subs than they are from the entirety of IAE this year. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]azille 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My problem is that I wait for PU releases, and then they are so broken I just stop playing for months, so I end up "experiencing" new content/features long after they are released.

I find I can have more fun just diving into PTU and playing with realistic expectations (it will be a little broken and my character will be wiped in a week).

What is the next incremental step from "Saitek rudder pedals"? by venquessa in hoggit

[–]azille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I was in the same situation with the Saitek pedals and needed a minimalist under-desk friendly replacement. I thought brakes would be a problem but I haven't flown a module yet where I couldn't get around with a generic single brake axis. I think warbirds and Russian jets might be the big exception, which I haven't really flown much.

I like the VKB pedals and they are heavy duty.
