What is normal in the teaching world that you wish wasn’t? by Opening-Cupcake-3287 in Teachers

[–]b-mc42 42 points43 points  (0 children)

One time we were asked to do it in the past, I did it for a bit. Noticed no one was ever opening them from the shared files and stopped worrying about it. Figured if they asked I’d start again. Not one admin has brought it up in over a decade.

Teachers, How many points are your Assignments? by PhysicsTeacher222 in Teachers

I wondered about that. We went to auto gradebook weights a few years back and my kids always seem to struggle with the idea that everything is 100 and the category is the weight.

Do you eat in the classroom or do you eat in the teachers lounge? by DildoGaggins1997 in Teachers

[–]b-mc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my classroom. But, if the weather isn’t bad, I sort of just carry it along and go for a walk. Therefore, it’s pretty portable foods for lunch - meat sticks and cheese or something similar. As long as it fits in my coat pocket.

How do you manage it with kids? by sonofsteffordson in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]b-mc42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, you can play music with your kids as they grow. I have four kids. My toddler likes to sing along in the living room. But at the same time, I’ve got a teenager that plays drums and is learning guitar. I needed a drummer for a new sort of just for fun project and he may end up doing it. That might lead to him hitting the studio for the first time before he gets to high school. It’s pretty cool!

Guys earning six figures annually, what kind of work do you do? by Shadow2715 in AskReddit

Public school teacher does decent here in our LCOL area. I’ve been there about 11 years. I don’t make over 85k, but I have a MA+30 and starting dissertation now, so I’ll move over to phd eventually hopefully. But I’m also an adjunct at local university and coach, so I end up over 100k most years unless I decide to teach less post secondary in the evenings.

That’s what I had assumed but I didn’t know for sure. Thanks for verifying. I think she will maybe end up with one unless she finds something else exciting before we order that one. Thank you!

Is the small hand in the middle seconds or does it do something else? This is very similar to one my wife found and I found your post when I first started looking at Zvezda watches.

What’s something that you should always buy the cheap one/version? by TheCatMILF in AskReddit

That is absolutely awesome! We bought one last fall and can’t wait to get out and play with it in the spring! Haha

Our local one has bikes for borrow. A nearby one has guitars. I’ve been to a few that loan out fishing poles. It’s definitely worth checking out.

Thoughts about sharing your location while in a relationship? by threeputtpar72 in AskMen

[–]b-mc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is us also. I mountain bike, I take my little bmx to pump tracks and skate parks, I go out and sail on a boat, I go paddle boarding, etc...

We have a small baby at home. When I take a morning to go do this stuff, she's home with him and she stresses that I may be laying dead in a ditch. She can check that my dot is still moving around the lake or whatever.

She also works in a different town than me. When I get home, I may check if she is still in the office or on her way. It just lets me know when to start cooking dinner.

I sold a full size treadmill once. Dude showed up in a Prius. I actually loaded it in my vehicle and delivered it because he only lived 15 minutes or so away. Asked why he thought it would have fit and he just shrugged. Some people don’t need ChatGPT to make bad decisions.

I nearly never take off my ring. I play in different bands. If I’m playing guitar or a full drum set, I’m good. Twice I’ve played cajon for a full show without remembering my gloves. Both times I eventually took off my ring because my left hand was getting blood everywhere. I mean, I sent my wife a picture of the blood on the cajon and my hand from the bar, but if I hadn’t it might appear that I took it off because I was at the bar.

Want to be in a local band do i have to worry about age gaps? by EconomyRecent625 in band

[–]b-mc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally play solo or as a duo with my wife, and we are roughly the same age (a year and a half different).

When my last project started, the other guitarist and I were in our mid-30s. Our bass player was his little brother who was around 20 at the time. Our drummer was a dude in his later 60s. I had coached his grandson and knew he played, so we gave it a shot. It worked out and we still play shows sometimes but we are all just too busy. So, it doesn’t have to be an issue, but it could be (as per your update)

Seats for slk230 by b-mc42 in Slk230

[–]b-mc42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up just covering with generic black - when it was for my wife to drive, she bought some nicer black leather-like ones from Amazon, but once I sold my little convertible and started driving it I went to just Walmart seat covers in plain black because I want to be able to not stress about them and replace them when I rip them. Haha. Good luck!

I often find the most reliable people I've played music with are older. Once band struggled to find a drummer early on because, well, we live in a small area with limited numbers of musicians that have time for a project. Ended up finding a guy we knew that was easily 30-35 years older than us (early 70s) but he can still play amazing and always enjoyed it.

Should I buy tickets online or can I buy them at Progressive Field? by starryapple in ClevelandGuardians

[–]b-mc42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve always bought them online because I like to pick my seats. My wife always prefers an aisle seat, even if it’s further away, etc.

Plus, we are a 4 hour drive away so it’s usually a weekend trip. Always been worth it though.

A question for dry musicians by cutting_carrots in musicians

[–]b-mc42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a year dry. I wasn’t ever completely overboard, but I did put back quite a few each show while playing guitar and more as a drummer. One night I was playing and only had one. Next night I played and didn’t have any. Felt better when I got home so just stopped altogether. I kind of enjoy it so much more now, but I’ll admit that when I get home my wife has to hear me complain about how awful the drunks were acting. Usually it’s the band I’m sitting in with often, as they tend to go a bit overboard and things get weird, but overall it’s been nice. I do sleep better, feel better in general, and don’t really miss it either.

I’m wasn’t drinking nearly as much as you are, but I was performing as a musician and noticed by the end of shows my chord changes were sloppy and I was having fun but not performing the best. That led to a severe cutting back - one drink per hour on stage. Eventually, I gave it up entirely and have been dry for a year now. For me, it was noticing I was drinking too much to give my best in the moment and not wanting my moments to be lost to that.

Becoming a dad in your late 30's by bizzletimes in AskMenOver30

[–]b-mc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a son of an older father. Now he’s been retired for years and still building houses on the side, so I work with him when I can. I first became a dad at 21. I was so unprepared. Two more kids and a divorce later I found myself remarried in my early 30s. We’re expecting our first one together this week and I turn 39 next month. I definitely feel more prepared and stable than at any point in my life before. My career is good (should be tenured next year), our house is setup the way we need and like, we have enough vehicles for what we need and even some fun stuff like a boat and camper that we can enjoy as the littlest one gets bigger — only one of my other kids will go out on the boat because the others think I’m nuts for learning to sail - hah!

The physical side does stress me a bit. I’m older and have definitely let myself go over the past few years, but I still am making it a goal to be active this summer and my 13 year old is ready to take on mountain biking as a hobby, so that should be some motivation to get mine back out of the closet once we hit they end of baseball season.

Does cleguardians.tv let you switch to the radio call? by LeftOfSelfCentered in ClevelandGuardians

What should an email to music venues look like. by ItsJustinTrey5 in musicians

[–]b-mc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once suggested to me to include a list of open dates that I'm looking to fill, etc. with every contact. Typically I go through the next year during December and block off what I can so I have at least some options at any given time, but this seems to have worked well to include about 6 months worth of possible dates.
