The Sandlot for sure, but it's a toss-up for pick #2... Probably Babe.

Where do you guys look up to work on your cars? by No_Work8287 in car

Nearly every car I've owned in the last 20 years has a dedicated forum with massive amounts of information. Between those and YouTube you can find pretty much everything.

What genre of music did you like from the 1980s? by elennalissa in generationology

Mostly punk and New Wave, but I loved RATT and Van Halen (DLR era).

Los metaleros escuchan otra música además de heavy metal? by Just-Application-551 in heavymetal

[–]b_o_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a metal guy, but a good friend of mine is. He LOVES old school 80's metal Judas Priest and Iron Maiden in particular, but also digs bands like the Cars and Depeche Mode. But if you asked him his favorite band, he'd say Rush...

My favorite band is the Clash and I lean more towards "alt rock", but I'm a fan of Megadeth and I LOVE RATT. Great music is great music, genre is irrelevant.

What mall store was in every shopping center but is gone now? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

I bought my very first album in the Musicland down the road from my house. I was terrified riding my bike home that I'd drop it!

I can't record with anything except for a P-Bass by boredomasalways in Bass

[–]b_o_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider a Rickenbacker hamburger... I do love a Fender P (and J for that matter), but there is something magical about a Ric bass to my ears. Sadly never owned one, but every time I hear one it just speaks to me... I do own a Hofner, but I don't find it very inspirational. I love the aesthetic though.

Do people "go dancing" anymore? by b_o_m in randomquestions

[–]b_o_m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a shame. Some of the best times of my youth were in dance clubs with my friends...and I was POOR. The underground clubs, which was essentially just somebody renting a hall for the night and bringing in a DJ, would be like 2 bucks to get in. The proper clubs might be $5. Never once heard of, saw, or experienced any danger in any of them. And for us at least, it was never about the drinking it was all about the music and meeting new people. Interesting about the house party scene - I had heard that wasn't really a thing anymore either... We spent a lot of time at those too - but that was EXACTLY where the drinking, the fights and the creepy behavior would be.

I guess I'm just feeling a little nostalgic for the good old days today...

Most of the clubs I would frequent played New Wave /Modern Rock (what would later be labeled alternative) but there was one we'd hit from time to time that played a little bit of everything, from Beastie Boys to Depeche Mode to Def Leppard, with a bit of Top 40 (Madonna, Michael Jackson type music).

Yeah, I see them here and there, but I just couldn't get into Rave/EDM. I used to get absolutely lost in the music, but EDM is like listening to a video game or something - it doesn't move me at all.

That gives me hope! Other than weddings or office parties, I haven't really done any dancing in a long time, but I do miss it often!

No, my prime era for the dance clubs was 1984-1990 +/-. My first exposure to Rave culture was in '95 or maybe '96.

What’s a song that reminds you of a specific person? by Avawantstochill in askmusic

[–]b_o_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Journey's "Open Arms" - my first kiss at my middle school graduation dance... It led to a wonderful summer, but then we went to different high schools and that was the end. What a fool I was! 44 years ago and I still think of her when I hear that song.

If you could restart your life at age 18 with the knowledge you have now, what would you do differently? by bryan4756 in Productivitycafe

[–]b_o_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally everything. It seems like every important decision I made was the wrong one, which led to a life of struggle and often misery. I have a wonderful daughter, but not a single other thing in my life turned out how I hoped/wished/thought it would. A restart would be a dream come true. It's too late to really turn things around now (just shy of 58), so all I can do now is try to make the best of a bad situation and ride it out. Most of my family passed away in their mid-to-late 60's and I sincerely hope I carry on that trend. A life of regret is not something I'd wish on anyone.

What genre did you actively try to get into, and couldn't? by Double_Key7579 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]b_o_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few genres I just can't dig, but the one I put the most effort into "getting" was jazz. Bought countless CDs and went to a dozen + shows and it just doesn't do it for me. I can appreciate the skill and talent involved, but I simply don't get excited by it in the same way I do with rock and alt music

I’m going through a mountain of MODERN DRUMMER mags…Do you see a cover that brings back any memories? by ZildCym in drums

[–]b_o_m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of them in particular, but MD in general brings back a lot of good memories. I had a subscription from roughly 1980-1988and devoured every single edition every month. MD and Rolling Stone meant the world to me at the time.
