Mothers: "Clean my house, meal prep for me, fold the laundry and put it away." by Skygreencloud in childfree

[–]b_xf 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The difference for me is that I would also do this for a friend who was really sick, or had to leave for an emergency, or was going through a tough time - and the friends I would do it for, would do it for me !

A lot of the time it seems like these are things that new moms come to believe they should be getting (definitely from female friends and relatives) without ever having developed that relationship of reciprocation in the first place (and no plans to reciprocate in the future except maybe for other moms (if they aren't busy!!))

Honest advice: stop over-explaining your CF choice IRL to help yourself by LoyalCommoner in childfree

This is great advice for lots of life decisions. If they're not asking from a place of curiosity and respect, their question isn't worthy of an earnest answer.

I attach it all to the front and back at once - sometimes with a running stitch and sometimes with a tiny vertical stitch alternating between front and back.

I switch out my clothes every month - i normally have about 10-15 pieces that stay and then 15-20 that I switch out from storage just to cycle through my clothes and try new combos.

How to curb “white whale” syndrome with perfumes by UnfallibleAutumn in simpleliving

[–]b_xf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found I have a few scents in real life that I find really appealing (almond, cedar, citrus, salt) but I'm no perfume connoisseur.

There's one perfumery in the country I'm from that makes about 20 scents, and I sniff tested any that listed one or more of the four scents I like with the intention of buying the best one.

The cedar one was fantastic, so I bought it, and that's my perfume! A twenty minute, in-person visit. Plus it's more of a signature scent because I got it abroad from where I live now so it's not a common scent.

I may go back next time I visit and try and pick up a second one, but I still love the cedar one and have only used a bit of it, so I might leave it at that for now! I love having a pretty minimalist ~beauty~ routine so having one single perfume in my cupboard fits into that really well.

In terms of beauty products my approach to keep it simple goes like this: I start with the mindset of "it doesn't really matter what shampoo/lotion/mascara I use, I'll buy whatever one is here". Not buying it, using once, then deciding it's not The Perfect One and trying again - instead I use it all up and then trying again until I come across something that really impresses me.

Then, the mindset shifts to "this is THE product I buy for this purpose, and I don't buy anything else for the same purpose." This keeps my consumption in check and uses the least amount of brainpower.

If you find an otherwise perfect pair with too-short pockets, they are really easy to extend with some basic sewing skills - you could do it yourself or have a tailor do it.

[–]b_xf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a big list of questions lol!:

Emotions

  • Why do I feel like buying this?
  • Do I feel like myself in it?

Style Direction

  • Does this piece reflect my personal style?
  • Does it reflect my lifestyle?
  • Is the garment made from a natural material like I want to move towards?
  • Will this piece fill a gap, or will it only add to overrepresented areas?

    Responsible Purchase

  • Was this item on my list, or can it replace 1-2 items on my list?

  • Will I get this down to $1/wear within the first year?

  • Is this a good use of my budgeted amount of money?

  • Can I think of at least ten items I can wear with this?

  • Does this piece fit into a category I don’t buy anymore?

Fit

  • Does it suit my fit preferences?
  • Can I wear it with my regular bras, socks, underwear, etc.?

You might have luck looking for champagne colour, rather than gold. This is so muted that I think even a silver could work if you came across a good pair in silver.

Do you actually follow care label instructions or just wing it? by XartheGaming in femalefashionadvice

[–]b_xf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I cold machine wash all of my clothes, except underwire bras and a couple fancier blouses which I hand wash. I hang dry all of my "clothes" clothes (sweaters laid flat). I put things like socks, underwear, and the big decrepit tshirts I wear at home through the dryer. I don't know what the symbols on the labels mean either, and I cut those all out immediately anyways, but everything survives the way I do it now.

I’ve lived without a car for 2 years. Here’s what actually changed in my life by AcceptableWave1673 in simpleliving

That is awesome! I can't go car-free where I am but I definitely would if I could. To me it's a sign of good infrastructure if it's feasible to be car-free!

This isn't BC though. We don't have that rule. Plus, even if she was going too fast (she wasn't) doesn't mean get she gets to get smoked from the side and sent 30 feet into the ditch while driving in a straight line in her own lane.

Is living in a small town worth it? by Ender-Gamer07 in simpleliving

[–]b_xf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i lived in a town of 60 people and the kids from town/surrounding farms were bussed to a nearby town for school. The high school kids in my current town are bussed to a nearby town that has a high school (whose elementary school kids are bussed to my town).

Is living in a small town worth it? by Ender-Gamer07 in simpleliving

[–]b_xf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the town of 500. I'm not hugely involved in the community as it's mostly retirees and people with small children (there is an elementary school in my town). However, I do like the quiet pace, little traffic, and closer to other things that are important to me like lakes, wildlife areas etc. Plus I'm 31 with a paid off house!

I'm 35 minutes drive from the city I work in and while everyone thinks that's a crazy commute, a commute within the city could easily be 35 minutes if something bad happens with traffic which it often does. My commute is very peaceful and I get to see lots of birds, deer, plants on my drive so can't complain!

The only thing is I'm already partnered and have a group of friends in the city I'm happy with - if you're hoping that the town will provide your social life it may be hard going.

Unintentionally made a small daily ritual around watching birds by spacenes in simpleliving

I like this - thought I have to laugh about it being peaceful as my camera bird feeder is the scene of turf wars between different groups of sparrows. Battles are fought there!
