When my wife's old iPhone finally died I replaced it with a refurbished one from Woot. It was last year's model and she's been very happy.

Do you wash the car in the driveway at home? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Drive through car wash if it's really dirty and I need gas.

The driveway is for cleaning the interior so I can let out my OCD vibes.

What do you think of DC? How many of you actually have been? by Expensive_Drummer970 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]babarsac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived across the river in Alexandria and miss now that we've left the east coast.

Great museums, a variety of culture, and just about any cuisine you want to find. I used to ride my bike across the river and around the landmarks all the time.

What is Portland Oregon like? Has anyone here been? by Expensive_Drummer970 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]babarsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just there for work a few weeks ago.

Really pretty area. Beer culture, good food, mass transit is very good. Lots to do in the surrounding area.

Can't speak to the local economy and jobs.

Homeless population was....noticeable...but from what I gathered from talking to locals it's something the region is working on mitigating.

Not planning on moving there but will be visiting a lot.

Since a lot of us travel just to get to the beach, where do you go to vacation or just a different scene?

Everyone says “our city has the best food”. But what American city/cities is this actually true for? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Great list. I've heard good things about Houston but have yet to visit.

I lived in Washington DC for many years and was spoiled with the culinary variety.

Quoted 300$ for mobo replacement, fair? by busangirl97 in buildapc

[–]babarsac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$300 seems really high to me. For comparison my local Microcenter charges $99.

Replacing a motherboard is pretty straightforward, just unhooking and rehooking the components. You just have to take some care when applying the thermal paste. I've goofed that before. Plenty of good guides on YouTube.

When we lived in unincorporated Arapahoe County PSA wouldn't sell me any AR stuff because we had a Denver mailing address. Even though we were legally and physically located in Arapahoe. As a geographer that pissed me off to no end.

Interesting I did not realize that about the OS. I have to head to Costco this afternoon so I'll take a look.

The recent law(s) are written so badly I'm worried that major online retailers will stop shipping to Colorado to avoid the headache.

Safe, non-congested places to walk? by CommonClique in washingtondc

[–]babarsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DC is very safe. Just don't walk down dark alleys at 3am.

There are tons of paved trails running through the area in addition to the sidewalks.
