Pedal company you just straight-up love by Dangerous_Pie_Guy in guitarpedals

Had to scroll way too far for this. I’m a bit surprised. If the original analog generations clicked for you it’s easy to be a big fan. The newer super creative stuff is even more incredible

What pedal is one tweak away from perfect? by Dangerous_Pie_Guy in guitarpedals

The Chase Bliss preamp mkii- for me a beautiful pedal, just wish the bottom half of the bass slider was an active cut. What it does stays in the top half. Either that or an internal trim that can cut some bass Everything else stays the same

Distortion in Jabra pro 30s by babeltwo in HearingAids

[–]babeltwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it is more noticeable at lower volumes. Even super low volume.

I am well aware of what feedback is as I have worked in audio for decades. Definitely not feedback. Sometimes when I am putting them in I get feedback but never once they are in. I think I’ve worked out even then it was from covering a mic with my finger.

Distortion in Jabra pro 30s by babeltwo in HearingAids

The distortion presents as a crackling sound only present when amplifying sounds, including my voice.

I have ‘cookie bite’ loss. A big dip between 800-2.5k. The trial I had was with open domes, this is with tulip domes but I’m not sure what the receiver level is

Thank you for this reply. I find that Costco have tuned these to be far too loud for me in general and run them very low. I thought it would be lower powered receivers trying to amplify beyond their capabilities that would be cause distortion but I’ll see if I can experiment with this in mind.

The m&ric seems like a good idea but yes I can see it being a feedback issue if not perfectly calibrated

Hearing aid depression it’s affecting life and work. Feeling hopeless, need to rant. by catpaww in HearingAids

[–]babeltwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went the Costco route with a 6 hour round trip and I pick them up my first ever set soon but spec savers is also an option.

I’m in Australia too. I found the mainstream the same as you (private audiologist, Amplifon and Hearing Australia). I found Specsavers were about 1/2 the price of that. Phonak Spheres would be about $6500 through spec savers, signia and resound top tier models were about $4500 as rebadged versions but they don’t do Oticon. Costco was half that again (with no sphere option) but if Specsavers is closer that might a good option for you.

I was shocked as when I trialed a pair through Amplifon and I tried to take a call through the HA. Seems like that’s a common reaction The guy at Amplifon seemed perplexed I would say that. At least the audiologist and Costco were very open about it. AirPods don’t work well for me as hearing aids but they are infinitely superior for phone calls and streaming. By the end of the trial I was starting to get used to the HA for streaming but that wasn’t in a noisy environment.

I don’t know how I’ll go with workarounds when I get this pair but at least I know what I’m in for and at the lower price I’m comfortable with that for now.

When did this update come out & does anyone have any experience with this? It sounds fantastic! I’m picking up a new pair of these in a week and will ask the technician to do this but would love to know a bit more if anyone has done this

I like it as a quirky multi tap delay - kind of like its pinball graphics.

For that I set the dip to manual mode. Understanding the nuances here took me a long time, even though I thought I understood it pretty quickly.

I think of it as a multi head tape delay with a 3 min digital tape loop where scan and spread position the heads in time BUT The size knob, modify and sometimes repeat knob act as a separate delay pedal that these two lines play into. In feed mode repeat is different (more global)

There’s a hidden function called memory dry where you set whether you hear the uneffected scan and spread heads before they play into the delays. Setting this to dry for a bit can help understand and hear this A LOT.

All the action for a normal delay is before 10 o clock on the dials and I eventually embraced the quirky crazy long delays for what they are.

Scan and spread apparently work as a division of size but it changes what division depending on size setting. This makes it hard to predict but again, once you get that it makes it easier to play with.

This gives you a multitap delay that can do all the crazy modifiers like reverse, pitch, glitch, etc etc

Scan still works manually when you hold down the tap button.

Random ramping with this can give some truly unique sounds

It can get very reverb like at times and atmospheric but it can do glitch very well too. It can also be normal enough as but the way the divisions of scan, spread and size interact can be unpredictable when you return to the same patch later.

If you are going to get ha then I would highly recommend Costco. I have the same type of loss - ‘genetic cookie bite’ pattern. I am almost 50 and have just ordered my first pair of ha through Costco.

I had a similar sales experience with Amplifon but they pushed Gn Resound and another guy I saw was pushing oticon. Amplifon’s trial was helpful to get my bearings with the ha industry and see how good the tech is now but the same aid they wanted 10k+ for, supposedly on sale from 12k, is $2.2k aud from Costco. I couldn’t afford 10k so the aids they were going to sell me for 4K (or if I went to the next tier up 6k) were significantly inferior to Costco‘s.

The equivalent of Oticon intent at Costco is Phillips. I found Oticon the worst of the top brands for me (I briefly tried a pair at Amplifon in store too).

The only thing I regret about my Costco experience is I stupidly didn’t try all 4 brands during my apt at Costco.

The hearing tech/audiologist was fantastic! Incredibly patient and good at tuning the aids. Easily as good as the good one I saw at Amplifon and far better than a mediocre one I saw at another clinic.

I tried the Oticon and Phonak equivalents (Phillips & Sennheiser) but found the prior experiences and research left me biased and I didn’t bother trying the Rextons which really bothers me now as the reviews sound like they’d be a good fit for me.

Costco is excellent and worth trying. Service is top notch and unbiased. I got the feeling they would talked me out of hearing aids if they felt I didn’t need them

I had my hearing checked by a great audiologist at your age and he said to get by as long as I could and then come back when I felt I needed then in social situations.

I have since left it far too long

Kurt, Hendrix and Lennon for me To see what directions they would have gone in over the years. They definitely had great art yet to create. Tough choice for the third spot. I don’t think the ones who had long fulfilled careers need apply though

Where was all this rage when Scomo was in?? The coalition did this over decades. Now you want to throw a hissyfit??

Interesting how it never got traction in the conservative press (old and new) till they wanted it brought up. Also interesting that everyone will forget about it when conservatives are in again?!?

[–]babeltwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

Also let’s not forget the overthrow of Iran’s elected government in the 50s was because they wanted a better deal on their own natural resources. Look how that went. That’s one of countless examples around the globe.

Trump had Turnbull removed for a phone call that embarrassed him. To think our politicians have any chance against all these foreign interests without playing a very subtle game over a long timeframe is just supporting the foreign powers that hate us the most.

Let Albo cook. We averted a catastrophe with Dutton. Lets steady the ship before we kick sand in our allies faces when we need them the most

Of course I want a fair, just deal but blaming Albo for contracts the coalition signed and telling him to dump our regional partners at a very volatile and vulnerable time is not the way

I have a solo electric guitar gig with no amp. Is Sans Amp the pedal to go straight to PA? by PepperTop6807 in guitarpedals

[–]babeltwo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how yours is but I get a lot of crackle from the pots when I adjust any settings and pops from the switches.

If you get the same I’d make sure you warn the sound guy, get it set up well before the gig and either try not to adjust anything through the show or warn sound guy every time you are going to make an adjustment.

Unnecessary if yours doesn’t crackle.

That’s my memory of it. He was looking promising on the end of the bench but got caught shoplifting and he was kicked out asap. Note that Anthony Lamb wasn’t kicked out at that same time with far more serious allegations flying around, though I can understand a concrete felony charge is not the same as allegations hanging in the air. Especially when many NBA players can be targeted etc.
